Removing store stickers from sealed games

Today I found a copy of Fire Emblem and 2 copies of Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones in a bin at Circuit City. All three copies have those giant Circuit City price stickers, warranty stickers, and old "Works on DS!" stickers.

The plastic on GBA games is pretty flimsy and I'm afraid I'll rip a hole in it to take off these stickers. I'm pretty sure I can get the price stickers off but the other two seem to be much more stubborn.

Any ideas on how I can get them off without damaging the plastic? My girlfriend suggested steam but I can imagine that condensation would ruin my day on that one.

Goo Gone. Squirt a little at a time, directly on the sticker (i.e. soak the sticker), and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then it shouls come off fairly easily, and you can work and sticker goo residue off gently.

Hmm, I'll have to check around to see if any place around me has that.

I'm thinking a hair dryer might warp the plastic, so that'd be a last attempt sort of thing.

Try Wal-mart. I picked up a bottle from there and it has been tremendously useful cleaning up a whole bunch of PS2/DVD cases that had sticker goo left on them.

Goo gone is great, I used some to clean up some old Rental SNES games i had, they look brand new!!

Be careful with Goo Gone and a hairdryer.

Goo Gone can seem in through the seals on the top or bottom... and if it does, then that's that. And a heat can warp plastic so that doesn't need any explanation.

I would suggest try to peal it off manually, then just use either nail polish (no joke) or IPA (isopropyl alcohol). It will help get the residue off.

I've always used a razor blade. Don't use the ends of it because you may get a piece of the shrinkwrap. Just lay it flat against the box and then go along the sticker. 90% of stickers have come off cleanly for me, no residue. The ones that haven't are because they were crappy stickers.

Use adheshive tape (Not scotch).

I used to work in a disc manufacturing plant, and we'd have to remove stickers from shrinkwrapped product sometimes. Comes off super easy with tape - just cover the length of the sticker diagonally, and rip!

Do you mean nail polish or nail polish remover? Be careful with the latter, as its REALLY powerful stuff and may end up having a reaction with the shrinkwrap etc. Many years ago I tied to use it to remove blockbuster stickers from a DVD and it ended up eating away at the data layer. Yes, I was dumb then.

Goo Gone is a godsend for anyone who is anal about stickers (like me). You only need a few drops, so a bottle should last you years.

P.S. Congrats on the find, I can't imagine finding Fire Emblem new anywhere these days!

Water has done a job for me. I soaked piece of cloth in water than let it sit on top of sticker for a minute then manually removed it by hand, no residue left.

Holy shit... I don't think that person even plays games anymore. Bumping a nearly 10-year-old thread...

Circuit City hasn't been around in forever... Should have tipped you off.

I don't see a problem with bumping a thread as long as the topic is something that can still be discussed.  Removing stickers from games is definitely a topic that can and will always be discussed.

Any mechanics or likewise out there, Automotive brake cleaner works wonders. I would spray some on a paper towel, place the paper towel over the sticker, let it soak into the sticker, and within a matter of seconds, it should pull off fairly easily, and if any form of residue remains, you can wipe the plastic over, and it'll clean right up, and to top it all off, it'll evaporate as well.

Ah, this thread brings back the epic $4.96-$14.96 PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games I got at the infamous Circuit City clearance sale.
I think I miss Circuit City's clearances more than any other game deals especially because most of the games were still tagged full price so they were still in stock when marked down to the low prices.

Yeah, after the great $4.99 clearance there was a $1.99 clearance where nothing in my store was tagged right. I made a list from CAG for all the titles that should ring up $1.99 and sure enough that was what they scanned as. Good times.

Yeah, us longtime CAGs buying those games for so cheap probably helped lead Circuit City to its demise. They lost their ass on those games the last couple years they existed.
