True Crime LA soundtrack help

First off, don't laugh at me for playing this game...I'm just now getting around to it and it actually looks pretty good on my HDTV. Trouble is I can't get the custom soundtrack to work. I've selected a few of my own in the Audio-Cruising menu, and yet the game just refuses to play them. According to my Google research, this was a common problem. Anybody here have a solution for it?
