Check out the front page, March 15th.
See what I did with the Amplitude/My Street deal?

Do you think that I should do that to dead deals that are most likely not coming back?

Some of the deals (like those Amazon/TRU) deals drift in and out of stock so those I would most likely not give the "deal dead" treatment.

What do you think?

I personally think its a good idea, because when a deal is dead, and you just state that it's dead underneath, I have missed that almost every time.

Its pretty good now! I just hate when I see these awsome deals and don't see the DEAL IS DEAD! and Go looking for it and its gone.. :(

Maybe move the "Dead" above the headline? That way it would be the very first thing you saw.

I like it pretty well the way you've got it, though.

I think it's a good idea, you usually put a picture with every one of the posts and the absence of it helps draw the eye so people can see the "Deal Dead" sign.

If the deal comes back just add the pic again and remove the "dead" tag.

Thumbs up.

For what it's worth, I like it too. You can still see what the deal was, but it's clearly dead. And leaving the links for "discussion" is nice too. I also noticed the March 18 Serious Sam "Rebate expired."

Two thumbs up!

FYI, if you click on the "Continue reading......" link or the deal title (the green text) it will display the full deal with graphics and links.

I would suggest making the text a different color than the rest of the wording on the site to help it stand out a bit more. Perhaps red.

Yeah, this was my thinking. Instead of the green link title, we can make a new style, perhaps red, for dead deals.

haha, I like the tombstone, it's cute.

While I can understand wanting to make them look different, why would you want dead deals to stand out more? I would suggest maybe make them blend into the background more somehow?

Crossing out the title is a great idea. Maybe even make it red to that people know it is dead. Do that and you won't have to use the words dead or whatever.

Green titles mean the link is alive
Red ones mean the link is dead
Yellow means pending

How great is that?

I tend to agree. What do you think of the strikeout text that I added to the dead deals?

whatever you do.... PLEASE leave them up so we know what me missed.

think about it cheapy... if people dont know what they're missing... they won't want to come back to the site!

no strikeouts... just make it evident that it is curently dead....

hmmm... I thought that the strikeout idea was a good idea. But now that I see it, I don't like the way it looks. It looks like there's some kind of glitch, or something wrong with my PC. It also looks kinda sloppy, IMO.

Maybe just make the word "Dead" or "Expired" in a olive color so that it doesn't jump off the page at you but is obviously different.

It's difficult to test the colors here, since the background is not as dark black as it is on the front page. (At least for me, is it like that for everybody else?)

dark red
red
orange
brown
yellow
green
olive
cyan
blue
dark blue
indigo
violet
white
black

The color works - the strike through and the "Deal Dead" text are more than enough.

If that's not enough for a person to realize that the deal is done with, they don't deserve to be breathing.

Stupid people irritate me.

If you just leave the good links green and turn the bad ones red with a line through them you won't need any "dead link" messages.

People will simply look at the color of the deal title and know the deal status.

In fact Cheapy should use this method:

Good links are Green - remain unchanged
Currently sold out links will be Green with strikeout text
Forever dead links will be Red or Red with strikeout text.

sounds pretty good

GOOD LINK

PENDING LINK - Can't get the overstrike to work

DEAD LINK - With or without overstrike which I cannot do

If you don't like red you can use another color that suits the site's pallet better.

DEAD LINK
DEAD LINK
DEAD LINK
