Sorry guys, it turns out the Sega game to be revealed today wasn't a revival of JGR, but rather a revival of the arcade classic, House of the Dead. That's not too bad of a deal though, right?

It is officially titled The House Of The Dead: Overkill

Is Sega capable of breathing new life into this arcade classic? What are your bets, could this actually be the first good revived Sega classic in awhile?!

.....

Well, while you're pondering that check out the trailer:

scheduled for 2009 on Wii.

My thoughts? I'd be interested in seeing how this turns out. The concept of a lightgun game feeling natural with a sensor bar seems a little weird, but maybe they have some tricks up their sleeves that'll enable them to accurately emulate that special light gun feel. After all I heard people had some fun with the Resident Evil game, so who knows.

As for the trailer. It didn't really grab me, in fact based on what was shown to me it looks worse than House of the Dead 3. The zombie enemies just seem run of the mill zombies, rather than the distinct green blood oozing zombies of the other games. Not to mention the environments look a little plain. Then again, it's hardly enough footage to go on. Maybe as we get more screenshots it'll be easier to judge.

What do you guys think?

Wait so its a new entry in the serios of house of the dead? I guess I am a bit confused (without watching the trailer, since I am at work).

New entry.

SLOW-MOFO TIME, BITCHES
The Grindhouse motif works for me.

I'll see you when you hit $20 a month after release.
LMAO!!!
absolutely loving the grindhouse style.. hopefully the game itself is done like that and not only the trailer.
Yeah, there's an interview on IGN where Headstrong says the whole game will have the grindhouse/old-film look. It also has motion-controled melee, so you can rifle-smash monsters who get too close, and the interview hints of dual-welding gunplay.

And for whatever it's worth, the developers are the same folks who did Battalion Wars II, so they have experience with the hardware.

I'm not into zombie games, but I admit the trailer was cool.

My initial rage has subsided a little, perhaps to mykevermin-levels-of-reaction at this point.

I do love the cover though - "This is like something out of a video game" and "in colour" are nice touches. The nod to the character in zombie movies is a good touch also (I don't keep up with the genre so I don't know who the guy is or what the movie is, but it's the Detective Washington character that is an obvious reference to whoever I'm thinking of).

I must also admit that there's at least two quotes from Kuju/Headstrong Games's producer Neil McEwan that I find particularly delightful:

IGN: This game is looking great. Any final words for Wii fans looking forward to it?

Neil: ...We are making something you are going to have a complete blast playing. ... It’ll beat the shit out of grooming a horse.

and

IGN: How many enemies are you able to show on-screen at any given time?

Neil: .... We did take a look at some screens of a certain other zombie game that is being ported to Wii, and the general consensus was that we thought we could certainly do better.

Translations: fuck you Ubisoft, and fuck you Capcom.

Nintendo should just pony up and make these guys a second party. It's not like they don't have the cash to buy them out a thousand times over.

Well according to VGChartz the HOTD2+3 combo did sell over 300k in the US, and over 230k in Europe. Sales wise, that's pretty good for a port of the combo that was released on the OG XBox years ago. I think this game will sell just as well at $30, but at $50 I'll be suprised if it manages even 100k total.
Why, did I not get excited during the trailer? Seems meh to me...
You're not alone and I play the heck out of House of the Dead 2 from time to time. This game looks completely different from the gothic style of that game, which is cool, but the actual footage doesn't excite me. I just want some high quality screenshots to nitpick at.
hope it's lengthy unlike all other Wii Lightgun games.
If it hits Umbrella Chronicles length, I'll be happy -- that was a reasonably long game that had a lot of stuff to find and unlock. If it's more Ghost Squad/HotD II & III ... that's another story.

It'll be short, it's a light gunish shooter. It's the type of game that should be fun to play multiple times because it's awesomely directed, and you can find out new ways to go about getting to the goal the second time around.

good point. even with HotDII/III being repetitive I still play it a ton. I just hope there's more unlockables and mix ups in this game.

I am still waiting for HotD 1 to surface in a bundle like II and III. I will still get it cause I have been following the storyline since the II one for Dreamcast....ahh good times.

Where the hell is Lethal Enforcers or Virtua Cop ? Or, better yet, where the fuck is a Confidential Mission II ?

I'm not complaining about more zombie shooting by any means. In fact, I'd love it if this were a quality release instead of a quick cash-in port like most all other Sega games. I just don't understand the thought process behind this one. Hell, even Japan got some Virtua Cop action for the PS2 so it would almost be a no-brainer to dump it onto the Wii.

The trailer looks great. Hopefully Sega will be smart and price it at $30 on release day, I just can't see myself spending more then that on a light gun game, no matter how long it is.

The what now?

Jury's out on quality, but it's not a port, so that's something right there.
The what now?
Storyline, point of the game, basically the same story spread out across 4 almost 5 games.

I noticed that too.

"We're meeting G over there."

"Harry and Amy are coming to..back us up...goooo."

I still don't know how G has survived this long, I thought he died in the second one but then he appeared in the third one.

Finally, one more good core title for the Wii. Besides, I love HoTD and this one I won't be CAG'ing on. More support for core titles means more good Wii games in the long run. Day one purchase. :)

Mmmm.
Must have release date.

LISTEN YA'LL. You better buy this?
Why?

Because they can give us a brand new GHOST SQUAD :whee:

Hey, so, I'm officially excited about this. Hooray.

... and, seriously, if they could be nice enough to put HOTD1 on disc, that'd be great. Been waiting forever for that, and don't feel like shelling out the dough for the Saturn version.

I've always wondered something, is the voice acting in these games intentionally bad? I remember playing the second game and thinking the voice acting was awful.

Wasn't it voiced by Japanese actors who barely spoke English?
