Yea but it's still censored. I'll get the enhanced UK version. Great deal though...I thought it was retailing at 49.99? If so, can't get better than that price.

Is it guaranteed that the US version will be censored? I thought with the mature rating they wouldn't have any problems with time...either way, where can i get the UK version for a reasonable price?

sheesh, took it long enough. I've been wanting to try out the game, but I saw that an enhanced version was coming out, so I held off. Didn't know it would take so damn long.

And is it enough to warrant wanting the UK edition instead? I mean if its just boobies and some cussing, I might as well buy the US edition.

From what i've heard you're wrong.

The game was never cencored according to CD Project it was just given a limited budget so the voice acting could only be so much. If you've played it you'd understand that there is cussing, violence, and shit in there all over. The cards were the only thing cencored and you can download a simple easy to get file online to.

http://files.filefront.com/The+Witcher+US+Censorship+Fix/;9455581;/fileinfo.html

Here's a link.

Also the enhanced edition is availible to everyone who owns the original via download if you want to get that for cheaper from some store that discounts it.

Also the enhanced edition puts back in all the original dialogue in addition to all the new animations, game areas, User interface, etc...

i actually scored a collectors edition of the uk version off gogamer when this launched

gogamer decided to throw it in a large priority mail box without and sort of padding and the box was badly damaged from CA to NY :(

though after waiting a long time for them to get more (which never came, i think its super rare) they ended up refunding the whole balance less the shipping :)

There are two (If I remember right) things that were censored in the original U.S. version, which there's a patch for. Those are:

1) Nudity in 'Sex Cards'
2) Dryads boobs

This is correct. The dialog wasn't Censored, just cut short. Alot of translation and voice editing when going to US from Polish.

So those out there needing your nipple cards and hot sexy dryad boobs...

Come on......

go wait some more then... so Gogamer will get some imports months later.

Sweet I've been waiting for this for a while now. Thanks OP. Forgot about the censorship issues but went ahead and ordered the US version anyway.

pretty cool bonuses if you don't mind missing out on the nudity. completists might want both cuz the illustrations for the sex cards are different between the two versions.

Digital completists.... didn't know they were out there... mind you those same completists should have The Witcher in 6 other vareties.... there was a LE and a CE and then the censored one, and then the uncensored one... all the various Country distrobutions...

Seriously it's just a few cards and one Dryad... and I'm sure there will be "patches" to restore what's different just like the previous version.

And truly purists should learn polish because that's the original uncut version...

:applause:

hehe, sure. i'm pretty happy with the UK uncensored version. im not even sure why they had to censor any of it when big games like God of War has nudity in it.

Well it could be pc racist from the consoles...

I'm sure if maybe Atari had a thing about it too saying... scale it back...

I had read that the killing animations when fighting human opponents were also more violent in the uncensored version (including heads flying off).

That's the new enhanced edition coming out September 16. It will feature lots of extras in game including more battle animations and gore. As well as new voice acting that isn't cut short and a lot more.

CD Project has to be comended for putting so much more work into an already great game.

Also I posted the patch above in my last post if anyone has the game and wants to play with the cut nudity back in. You don't have to buy the UK version.

I have the UK Edition. So, yeah -- I'll definitely do the free download to upgrade that UK Copy to Witcher: EE, regardless of how long that takes to DL on my DSL; to keep my copy Uncut.

As long as I do that download patch to keep the game Uncut to upgrade my UK Copy to Witcher: EE Uncut and be able to cut that patch to disc, I will eventually buy Witcher: EE Upgrade Box or Witcher: EE Full Box -- just to really get the map, the music CD's, making of the game DVD, etc -- USA or UK.

I don't know why having it uncut would make it so much more better...

I haven't found anything on what the EE of Witcher is... Honestly thinking that they shouldn't do a censored version...

I'll have to trudge through the Witcher forums.

If I had already purchased Witcher I probably wouldn't have pre-ordered, but I'm glad there are a few out there that are double dipping to get the goodies...

Definately going to be a great game.

You know Final Fantasy 3, or 6 now I guess came with a map. It was on paper but I don't know things like that and all these extras should be in more RPG's. Really makes me more interested personally.

Map helped a lot actually. All the towns were numbered in the order you should visit them.

I assume this is still censored, right? If so I'm waiting for the U.K. version too.

The last one was M rated too, but you know how this country is with sex  Super high teen pregnancy rate compared with Europe, but ON NO IT'S THE SEX! And violence, murder, corruption, etc. are a okay :bomb:

I hate when these collector sets out put out. I don't need more junk, instead just give me the game for cheaper, just my opinion.

And you're going to be waiting many more months for it.. why because you want some nipples on some cards and a mesh of a Dryad not covered up...

I know it's silly to censor but I still have to say that it will still have no impact on the game.

There were patches for the first one... I don't know why there won't be more for this one.

From what i read the US versions Dialog was Edited and shortened compared to the Euro Versions...so the story wasnt as solid as it should be. If you read any of the Witcher Books ( The Last Wish)they add to the game so much it takes it to a deeper level. I know the re-recorded hundreds of lines of dialog and re-edited the games dialog boxes but to what extent nobody knows

I love this game btw i quit playing it after this announcement now i wait....

They haven't spoken on if EE is going to Uncut in the USA.
We know it will be probably, in the UK.

What they should do is not listen to Atari and just cut the content out, without even checking w/ the ESRB on the Uncut Version of the game. What CDPR should just submit Witcher: EE Uncut to the ESRB, on their own. If that gets approved for M-rating in the USA, then there will be no cut version of the game.

If the ESRB doesn't approve of it, then everything will be like it is now. Nothing will change. At least if CDPR did this, we'd have a better idea of what can get a game can do to either barely make AO or barely miss out on AO to get the M rating.

Definately going to be a great game.

I don't think everyone is going to double-dip.

See, for those current Witcher owners who want a physical copy of just the new stuff, there are plans for there to be a Witcher: Upgrade Box (for Witcher owners to basically upgrade to Enhanced Edition and have it all on disc pre-packages for them) -- it will basically have the new patch and all the extras in a box. Plans are for it to go at the cost of an expansion pack ($20-30).

I don't know when the Witcher: Upgrade Box is coming (maybe along side of the full Witcher: EE Box?), but it has been spoken about on The Witcher forums.

wow, definately didn't know about the Upgrade box.

That is great, and serves everyone equally at some point.

ones that don't want it get it for free if they already own it, ones that don't have it can get the EE, and ones that do want the goods can pay what it costs without any trouble.

Definately one of the most respectible moves made by a company ever.

Il get the upgrade box then. I didn't realize that was coming out.

Anyway

There's a link to a mod that uncencors all models, cards, etc...

This is PC gaming people. Censorship is bad but on the PC it is laughably easy to circumvent.

I personally think there's no reason to censor it though since classicaly PC games have had a lot less trouble with nudity and stuff from the ESRB, as well as little trouble from various activist groups since there's no one company like Nintnedo or Sony to sue.

The Witcher:Enhanced edition is coming out on Steam, and has the basic 10% off so it's $35.99 (cheaper than Amazon).

"But wait!" you say, "Amazon's package comes with the making of CDs, etc..."

I agree. And that made me double take this topic to the store.

Steam specifically states:
"The Package - The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is more than just a better version of last year's RPG of the Year. The premium packaging would usually infer some sort of Collector's Edition... but at the price of a regular game, it's simply a great value. In your download you'll also get: Multilingual game disc, D'jinni Adventure Editor, Two new adventures offering 5+ hours of gameplay, Official Soundtrack, Music Inspired by The Witcher album, Making-of videos, Official game guide, Map of The Witcher's world"

So...would steam users get the items in the mail or all digital? From the list of what would be included in the box, this would be exactly what you would get in the box, but just not physically(which would mean you have no value to your extras...but you would never lose them either).

I know that one of steam's first packages was the half life 2 gold, in which they actually sent you your stuff. I'm not sure how they're going to handle this one. If I like the demo, I'd like the steam edition, just wondering if we lose out on the items in any form.
In your download .
steam says it right there. It's digital content. Usually it's some sort of Right Click on the game name to get access to the manual, and the sound track is put in a folder in the downloaded game files. (thats what they did with the orange box soundtrack you get when you bought AudioSurf)

i was interested in this game when it first came out, just never got around to picking it up(glad i didn't now). but anyway, how is the game, i'm still interested?

"The significant changes featured in the enhanced version are over 200 new animations, additional NPC models and recoloring of generic NPC models as well as monsters, vastly expanded and corrected dialogues in translated versions, improved stability, and load times reduced by roughly 80%. In addition all bugs are said to be fixed and the game manual completely overhauled."

Plus there's the MOD tool that comes with it.

I already got the game but i'm getting it for the cloth map, making of dvd's, et al. Not as bad as it sounds. I've already convinced a friend of mine to buy my old copy for $20.

Thats not how getting an ESRB rating functions. A lot of people seem to have the misconception that they play test the game and view all the content. Far from it. The developer actually submits a sheet with check boxes and/or a brief description of what the game contains to the ESRB. The ESRB issues a rating based off that supplied feedback. It opperates very much like a standardized test.

yeah which never defines the product, only generalizes it.

One image, scene and it's to them that it happens throughout the game.

Anyways, I should double check, I thought it was shipping on the 11th... wonder when mine did.

doesn't ship till 16th... ah.. and I should get it by that friday...

whole weekend to enjoy!

Because it's how the developers intended the game to be shown. It's only because of our=USA idiotic puritanical ideas of sexuality that we get censorship of games.

There are un-censor patches all over the place for this game. Do the devs a favor and support them in the U.S. then download the ~24mb patch for the game if you really have to see some video game titties.

Alternatively, you could go on this thing called the internet where the porn grows on trees and flows in the rivers.

yep because a few sex cards and a dryad is totally altering the story that the developers are rolling in their future graves for this move..

I repeat, it's a few cards, and 1 graphical topless dryad.

The nipples kill people... And read below to the other person's quote.
Also, you can get this for 26.99 from Stardock.com, if you also apply the Survey-2008 code at checkout.
That's funny, but let me explain this.

you can get Witcher here for cheaper at amazon for only 24.49

http://www.amazon.com/Witcher-Pc/dp..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1221404463&sr=8-1

AND

When the FREE enhancement patch comes out, you can download and upgrade your copy for FREE

That way you can still have a physical copy somewhere and don't have to deal with 35gb download.

Agree, if a little nipple action is so "un-intended" from the deveoplers....

then those people need to learn POLISH because from the polish script you'll have a more "complete" version, since it was hacked due to translation issues.

So go get your polish titties on and buy from here...

this a pretty good deal for the box version, but i think i'll snag it at steam for $36. i'm running out of room to keep storing all the boxes i get and the hard copy of the goodies really isn't that important to me.

honestly, every time i get the collector's version i always think "oh cool! this is so awesome!" and then all that stuff sits in the box piled under other collector's edition boxes. also, trying to build my steam library for convenience. go steam!

Yeah I think the best part of this all are the 2 CDs full of music.

I think that music is better than anything else additional ... better than a plushie or a phone charm.

ha! you got that right. or a 'bonus skin' or something else like that. the story could be pretty cool too. but just the changes to the game plus the additional game content for me would warrant the $36 (on steam).

Well, I've gone ahead and put an order down. Will probably chug on my rig at my LCDs native resolution, but I like rewarding good developers. Any one know if the nasty copy protection of the original release is going to rear its head in the EE?

Does anybody know if the nudity patch works on the EE version yet? If it just replaces textures or something like that, I don't see why it wouldn't.

Even if it doesn't, I'm sure a new patch will be out soon anyway. :D

After you sleep with a woman in the game, you're given a picture of her. It's an illustration (and they're pretty bad ass, even without the nudity...i don't think I ever got around to getting the patch.) So all the patch does is replace those cards--it probably works on the EE.

In any case this game is awesome, but wow is it long and dense. You really get a shitload of game for your money.
