Updated: PSP 1.5 firmware hacked! Games bootable off of memory sticks!

Yeah, forced updates will suck. But, its not like there are very many games coming out that I'm interested in anyway.
Isn't 1.52 coming out soon?
maybe, but even then, why update? it does nothing but update the firmware, which is no use ATM.

How can I tell what update I have on my PSP? The very first day I had my PSP (launch day) it downloaded something from the internet, am I totally fucked?

the supposed application running on the system:

D'oh! I'd already updated to 1.51. And I think 1.52 is already out since when I checked tonight it said there's a later update available.

I'll keep it at 1.51 in case they find a way to crack it.
It's up a bit early. It's a swap trick involving two memory sticks.
Two memory sticks..?

Forget that, then.

works fine, some applications will hang and not work.. but new versions are coming out quickly.

NesterJ works (Nes Emu), new version of SNES 9x port works, etc.

playing Legend of Zelda on my psp now :D

About it requiring two memory cards.. I'd imagine most of us have 2 mem cards. One that came with the value pack, and another one that we bought because the one that came with the psp is a dinky 32mb.

Finally got mine to work...running a few emus and testing stuff out.

Yeah, everyone should have two cards anyway if you ever planned on putting music, videos, etc. on your PSP.

I'm not risking my 1GB to this thing. I bought 2 64MB duo's off of geek.com. Cost me $26.90 shipped. If anyone else is interested use GEEKDAD for 10% off.

nes works like a charm!

not too complicated at all and the games are very playable with save states and everything that a good emulator should have. I'm still looking to see if multiplayer is possible, but so far so good!

I think the chance of this even hurting your memory card are 1/1000000. Its not a very tough thing to do, and I can't really see any damage coming to them.

has anyone put TWO emulators on a stick yet? I'm curious to see if you can have multiple folders in the "psp/game" directory with a different eboot.php in each.

If so, then I might need to buckle and get the 1gig. But alas, I'm at work and have no usb cable.

yeah, you're just copying files.. if you're worried about the contents of your memory card, just back it up to your pc beforehand.

The SNES emulator doesn't run fast enough for my liking.. but I guess I'll just tweak the settings a bit more and see if it helps

EDIT:

Yes, you can put as many as you want on there. On memory stick 1 (the boot stick) each eboot.pbp file will show up individually. Just pick the one you want. Make sure you name them for the appropriate emulator(if you're using the B Method), else you might run the wrong thing :)

thanks for the quick response robobandit..

so how is the snes one? playable? if you find some good settings I would appreciate them. I just put the nes one on before work.

A memory card swap? Please, what a joke! Um, yea let me screw around swapping my $100+ dollar memory card in and out of my $250 PSP just to play some worthless homebrew and SNES roms.

Now I see why they waited to release this crap, to build up hype. These jokers need to be shot. If you are going to crack something, do it right or not at all.
I guess it is cool it was hacked. But, from looking at the screenshots the games do note even run on he full screen.
I haven't seen anything yet but I'm guessing it's because of the aspect ratio difference between the PSP and a TV from 1990.

Running a NES rom on the PSP screen makes the NES rom the size of a GB Screen. The picture is so clear and crisp...wow.

And who says you need to have a whole gig card to play these? If you don't want to risk your precious card, just go buy a cheap 128MB one, thats what I did.
I'll wait a few weeks until someone has written an idiot proof FAQ and everything is running properly.
It takes 5 minutes to do this...not even that long. I have originally downloaded the wrong zip file, and it wouldn't work. Once I got the right one, I was playing M.C. Kids in minutes.

Doesn't change the fact that you could damage the PSP. I stand by my original point, not worth the risk (or the hype.)
