so is everyone thinking that we should pretty much go ahead and use our gift cards? cause i was thinking about using it for Christmas but if everyone thinks it won't last till Christmas i might go ahead and find something to buy
After the Sharper Image debacle, I would go ahead and use the gift cards now, unless you're in one of the states that guarantees that the cards HAVE to retain their value even as the company is going under.
Christmas is only about 2 or so months away anyway, so find a good hiding spot for whatever you buy and hopefully whoever the things are for won't find them before then.

The day I see a Going Out of business sale sign at "THE CITY", I am going into that store and find the guy who wanted me to make an animal sound during the job

About the Warranties, they HAVE to honor it in someway or give your money back in some way, otherwise they face a lawsuit from hundreds of customers.

Do not purchase gift cards from CC for Xmas gifts. Do not purchase an extended warranty.
If your in a state that requires gift cards to hold their value even after the liquidators have taken over then you can hold out.

The only thing is, what would those people be able to sue for if the company is already insolvent? Trying to get money from someone that has none is a fruitless pursuit.

You can't sue a company that's going out of business -- they're protected in the US by bankruptcy laws. And what's the point in suing a company that is going out of business anyway? It stands to reason that if they're headed out, they're already losing at least a few cents on the dollar.

The only people I feel bad for when a store chain goes under are the store employees, since they're SOL and out of a job once the liquidation sales are done. I don't feel one bit of sorrow for the CEO's and the other executives, since they're usually the ones who fucked up the companies in the first place.

even there... with circuit city, especially, i could care less.
i don't know about other stores, but the ones i've been exposed to have been filled with unhelpful jerks who could care less about helping the consumer.
but that's just one man's experience...

I've had crappy experiences with Kmart and Sears too, where the employees would stand there while I browse the game cases or whatever before asking me 20 minutes later if I needed help. Most times I'm content to find whatever I'm looking for on my own anyway, so I never really NEED their help.
But still, even if the people WERE jerks, it just sucks in general to be out of a job due to no fault of your own. You gotta feel for those 'jerks', since many of them probably have families and that's their source of income.
As for them having universal clearance, the stores by me are usually stripped bare, so I keep to Kmart or even Target at times.

I waited 50 minutes in line at a CC once, and there were only 20 people ahead of me (and a majority were families with 2-4 people). My hatred isn't helped by the fact that my friend's mom now is the head of SouthEast Best Buy

i agree here... while target rarely yields anything good for me, kmart is always gold. the combination of no one shopping there and their electronics section being an unorganized mess = great deals.

-The close outsales will suck just as bad as the SAM GOODIE/TOWER RECORD/COMPUSA ones.
-On the very last day, Speedy will go to the main HQ and say "Hey guys it's me, Speedy the guy you were trying to

-Billg will try to swindle them out using expired deals and coupons AGAIN.

I've run into that plenty of times at CC, but then at the same store i'll run into someone who is really trying. I think the problem is the assholes just weren't weeded out. . When I was buying a clearance camera a few months back the manager refused to sell me the display model even though it was confirmed to be on clearance. I was desperate though because that was the last one in the area I knew about, I went back the next day and the next manager then bent over backwards to sell it to me.
My main issues with CC have always been the registers and complete lack of employee help at times. I've never seen more then 2 people on a register at CC in years of going there , I could understand maybe a few weeks of short staffing on register but years? But then there are employees in the stores, but like my local store they just aren't doing anything. Coming from and going to the back all the time, talking amongst themselves or just wandering around. Last time I wanted a game from the case I had to track down the woman with the keys, she was over in the music section browsing . Same situation for all three stores in my area. I hate to say it but I really wouldn't miss them if they went out, if it weren't for some of the deals they have from time to time I wouldn't step foot in there.

good thing, that place annoys the hell out of me or at least the one closest to my house. all the employees and I mean every single god damned one would always be like "can I help you?" someone says that when I walk in and I'm like no thanks and then I go looking elsewhere and again "can I help you?" I move just a little bit looking elsewhere "can I help you?"
OH MY GOD, SHUT THEUP! Well I won't be missing this place for sure
It's called Customer Service, look into it.
If they don't do that, people complain they aren't being helpful.
If they do that, people complain that they won't let them shop.
You can't expect everyone in the store to know if someone's asked you if you're finding everything okay.
They don't know, you could be some lost soul to them trying to find something in particular but can't seem to find it.
Cut them some slack for actually trying to be helpful.
It's people like you that make a lot of retail employees cranky and unfriendly.

The other problem, just as other people stated, is that after the massive layoffs it was nigh impossible around here to get anywhere near decent customer service. Yes, the better workers were nice enough and knowledgeable, but when it takes 50 minutes to buy an item you want because the inventory system comes back twice with the wrong info, it takes 20 minutes to find someone who can work the register, and then another chunk of time because everyone working in the back (supposedly doing inventory) is hanging around the audio section instead.

I'm pretty sure if you got ignored at CC then you would be bitching about that too. Then end the rant with "I won't be missing this place for sure."
