Report This Post Option

CAGiversary!
It would be very helpful if there was a Report This Post button on each post that could be used to report posts that don't belong. There have been many posts lately in the Post You Own forum that don't belong there, but most people don't know how to get a hold of a moderator. It's an option on most boards and should be easy to implement. It could be used for any post that needs reporting, not just in the main forum.

If there is already a button, and I just don't see it, please excuse this post.

Yes, that is a good idea.
The I believe the next version of this message board software (which is supposed to be available soon) has this feature.

There is a "hack" available now, but it might be better to wait a month or two.

I'll look into it.

Would be nice if it let you do the flip side of that as well. Report posts/deals as exceptionally good.

I think that would be bad. On other boards that have reputation points that you can give to people who post good deals it is crazy. You have people begging left and right for points just so they can say "hey, I've got a lot of rep points. Look at me".

If people are immature enough to worry about their post count how can we expect them to handle something like deal reputation or quality.

I also think the "report a post" button is a bad idea. The mods should be competant enough and vigil enough to do their job, otherwise they shouldn't be mods. If we get "report a post" buttons this site's journey towards the dark side will be complete. You will see no end to the "I'm gonna report you" posts and threads. Not to mention that people will undoubtedly report those they don't like or whatever for no reason.

What he said. I'd hate to have a post "reported" for no good reason other than the fact that it is easy to do.

Report post button doesn't phase me... however, I don't like the karma systems on other boards. The trolls have way too much fun rating down people.

Yeah, reporting flaming posts, etc. is a good idea, but that whole Karma system blows.

You're missing the point. The post report option is not there to create tattle-tales, it's the simply to alert a mod that there is a problem so it can be dealt with quickly. For example, if someone posts a deal in the main forum that has a referral link in it, it would benefit everyone if a mod could fix it swiftly. Sometimes, mods don't catch them right away, or just aren't reading that part of the forum.

Or they're too busy posting in the OTT...

There is almost always a Mod on. Just PM them. It's just as easy, and it could be used until this feature was implemented.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of rating the specific post, not the poster. IMO the green bar by the deals on FW that have been marked as good is extremely helpful in browsing the deals forum quickly.

I think the mods have been doing a pretty good job with locking/deleting bad posts or moving them to the appropriate forum, so I don't think a marker is really needed yet.

Yeah, I'm not into the reporting post thing. i think in the end it does cause more tattle-tales and people start marking people just because they can. That's why GameFAQs blows. I dunno, I don't like the idea.

Marking a post doesn't automatically warrant deletion or other moderation though. If anything, it'll be a headache for the mods when some idiot decides to mark the posts of someone that has shot him down. Imagine how many JSweeney posts would be marked by his vic...er, people he has corrected.

"Report this post" would turn this place into a playground with accusations being slung left and right and constant fights breaking out. Please don't add it.

One of my biggest complaints about GameFAQs is the number of little grade school retards that want to flex their power by marking everything they don't like with "marked for moderation." God forbid any of the mods ever agree with them because then they get to brag about it and are reinforced to do it again and again.
Somewhat OT, but I'm digging the new official Lock messages.
Yeah, the "canned" messages are pretty cool. They even automatically do whatever command they reflect right after making the post.

As for the "Report this post," I don't know how necessary it is seeing as there's almost always a Mod on the boards nowadays.

Is there some type of "Boy who cried Wolf" system that could parallel it? Something that would punish posters who flag posts just to be an ass?

The Banky speaks the truth. Much knowledge to be learned from his words, there are.

The OTTs aren't what they used to be. The fun is gone. They used to be pretty comprehensible, but now they read like a chat log. I hardly ever post in them anymore. Most of my time is spent in the Halo 2 Clan forum now.

I disagree. I think report-a-post would be a good thing, although I do think that the mods should be able to take the option away from individual users who cry wolf too many times. It wouldn't be so that people could alert the mods that this guy is a jerk, or "I don't like what he just said", but to alert them if someone did something against board rules, such as talk about mods, or frauds, or DLF. Optionally, it could be used to alert mods that a topic should probably be moved.
