Ok, my desktop bit the dust thanksgiving weekend and I've been alternately busy w/ work & lazy to build a new one until now. Since I had a work laptop, I could make do for basic internet functions. But now that I have some free time/motivation to build one but I haven't kept up w/ the pace of technology so I'm a bit behind the times. So this is where CAG comes in. Ideally, I'd like a desktop suitable for gaming, p2p downloading, and the occasional graphic rendering. My budget is $1000 (give or take). This doesn't include a monitor (which I'm getting two 22 in. Acer monitors I've had my eye on). This does include a cpu, mobo, video card(s), sound card, SATA hard drive(s), optical drives (one for burning, one for reading/source drive for burner), and case. A few things I think I'm solid on (unless you can effectively argue otherwise) are the video card (gtx 260 core 216) and the cpu (quad-core Q9550 Yorkfield). Now I know the i7 920 is cheaper, however, considering what other things are needed to support the cpu, I think it'll be more expensive overall and would cut into my bottom line. I'm planning on have more than 4gig in the future but will wait for Win7 instead of going for Vista64 so I'll settle for 3gig right now and XP Pro. So, any suggestions? Fire away.* Help me Obi-wan CAGobi, you're (one of) my only hope(s)!

*if I don't reply right away, it's cuz I don't visit CAG as often as I'd like anymore but I WILL reply... eventually.
