DELL.CA - 320 Gb 2.5" sata (PS3 compatible) drive for $70

Ooooooooooh....I've been looking to replace my PS3 drive for a while. Might have to jump on this (especially since shipping appears to be free).

Thanks!

Thanks OP!

The deal I was waiting for, Ive look during boxing day and not that much of a deals for those SATA 2.5 to upgrade my PS3.

Just ordered it now, so ill be able to finally upgrade my PS3, pfff 60gb was really getting too squeak with all those demos and those DLC from SingStar and RockBand 2.

Oh, this was perfect timing... Between wanting to bump up my MacBook space and the PS3 hitting an available space wall, this will let me put the 320 in the laptop and use that 160 in the PS3.

Thanks for posting this one!

Got one just now, deal still worked at 1:59am (east time), figured it wouldn't since OP said "today only", well thanks a lot anyway! :p Going straight into the PS3 once it arrives here.

Dont forget to make a backup of your PS3 first, if not you wont be able to get your stuff back. Especially if you have alot of game save or other data that you wont be able to get back (demos can always be redownloaded, but hours of gameplay wont be fun to loose).

Yep, and thanks to the PS3's backup utility, that's going to be really easy! I'm guessing you just plug in an external HDD via USB, start the utility, wait a few hours and plug the external drive back in when the new internal drive is installed, shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for reminding me though :)

Really easy. But don't forget that the external HDD (used for the backup) must be formatted with FAT32 if you want your PS3 to detect it.

Yah it should be fairly easy, I havent tried yet. But soon ill have to do it once I receive the HDD. Ohh no problem for the reminder ;-). I read so many people making the mistake of putting the new HDD first, thinking they could swap back the old one to do the backup. Which doesnt work, since as soon as the PS3 see the new HDD it probably change something in the flash (firmware) and then if you tried to put the old one back its not recognized anymore.

Ohh and I see you are from Montreal ;-), its great see another CAG member not too far from me!

@TealShark

hmm thats odd, mine was ship to Montreal and still not here, theorically Montreal is more near to BC than Fredericton. Unless yours was ship from a different location?

Arrghh, I'm so pissed.

Purolator didn't even bother to ring the doorbell; I was home playing PS3 in my room.
Just stuck one of those pick-up slip on the door.

Now I have to bus in -30 temperature just to pick it up.

Purolator brought mine between 10h - 11h this morning at the office ;-). Geez what a big box they use only to be filled with a ton of paper and at the bottom the invoice and then the HD in the bubble envelop.

I will install this thing during the week-end, I need to backup all my PS3 data first. I start to clean up stuff last night.

When I click on the link to track my order, it says

Status:
Estimated Ship Date: 01/27/2009
Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.

:/

Got mine today, and am backing up my data from my external hd right now.

Ran into a slight problem though, which I am guessing some of you might too: when I turned on the PS3 with the new hd installed, I needed to install firmware to get it going.

Check that link out if you're having problems. If the download link for the firmware isn't working for you (this happened to me), just go on the official PlayStation site and find the firmware in their support section.

I was freaking out because I thought this was supposed to be an incredibly simple process. Now I'm just happy I've got it going.

Matsam & danthemighyone

Did you order something else with the HD ? Maybe it is waiting to have the other item available for the shipping?

Thats odd, and you both order on monday (well kinda no choice as it was the 1 day deal). Hmm around what time did you guys pass your order? Mine was done around lunch time (betweem 12h - 13h).

Funny thing happened when I picked up my hard drive from the Purolator shipping depot.

I got the box and promptly opened it in the car, and I was like, why is it full of paper and a big bubble envelope with nothing inside it? I also noticed that the box looked like it was opened and re-taped.

Assuming the worst, i went back. i was thinking that somebody at Purolator must've jacked my HD. They said to call dell and bring it up with them.

I took a second look when I got home and...there it was, a small HD inside the big letter envelope bubble-mailer.

Good thing I didn't make a scene...whoops.

I almost did the same thing, only I was in my room when I opened the box so I had no chance to make a scene. I was certain they sent me a box with nothing but paper inside.

hey question for you guys who have replaced HDDs.
I gameshare hardcore with my friends. So I have about $500 dollars worth of downloaded psn content but all of that is already on 5 activated units including my ps3. Does doing this whole replacement thing make it so I'd have to use another activation to get my downloads again? cause if so then I wouldnt be able to get them back at all and that would make or break me wanting to upgrade.

@Naylord

Well if you backup all your stuff properly with the Sony backup utility on the XMB then you should be fine. All my PSN download, save game and DLC (SingStar, Rock Band 2, Little Big Planet) where all available after I install the HDD and did the restore. You need an ext USB drive large enough to backup your stuff.

Got my HD yesterday. Did the swap, works great :D.

Was pretty long to backup and restore the data though. 1h30 for the backup and 2hours for the restore. Once formatted, the PS3 indicates 260GB free which is not too bad. Should be allright for game install for a while now.

matsam, what happens when you try and track it with the email confirmation from Dell? It should let you know. I've never had to wait more than 2 days for anything I've ordered from Dell. Maybe you can give them a call, they are usually quite friendly.

In fact I bought my ps3 from dell during one of their dells, and I called to return the ps3, because I had buyers remorse, and the lady on the phone offered to return 50$ to my credit card. So I say call them up and see what they say.

Good luck!

sweet thank you so much. I'll borrow my friends external USB harddrive and make a 32 gig FAT32 partition to backup all my stuff to. Might have to delete some porn.

I FINALLY got mine! That took a while, but they did say Jan 27, lol.

Going to try backing up my PS3 now, wish me luck! :p
