Christian Bale is a Douche

Short Round

CAGiversary!
Well if they ever decide to stage a sequel to Anger Management, I'd personally like to nominate Mr. Christian Bale to star. In a new piece of leaked foul-mouthed audio, Bale absolutely GOES OFF on some dude for walking where he wasn't supposed to and distracting the talent during a scene. Man, I would not want to be on the other end of Bruce Wayne's rant right here; he sounds like he's about to crucify the poor schmuck ... and all for trying to fix a light, or something.

According to TMZ, this took place on the set of Terminator Salvation after the director of photography "accidentally ruined a scene by walking onto the set." That would be Shane Hurlbut, who's shot tons of films like Swing Vote, Semi-Pro, Waist Deep, Drumline, etc ... (And yes, it kinda does scare me that the guy who shot Drumline is in charge of capturing post-apocalyptic creepiness for the next Terminator flick, but what can you do.) TMZ also says that Bale threatened to walk if this guy wasn't fired, and as such execs sent this tape to the company that insured the film just in case he ditched.

You can listen to the audio over here, but keep in mind it's filled with F-bombs and in no way safe for work. What do you think of Bale acting out like this? Does it change your opinion of him?

Sleazy douche? Yes
One of the best actors of this generation? Yes

Should he be allowed to beat on women and yell at people? No, but that really won't stop me from watching anything he's in.

I'm sorry, but it looks like his Patrick Bateman persona wasn't acting.

Didn't he like punch his sister in the face or something?

He does sound like a douche, but it won't prevent me from enjoying him in films.

Nope. At least he was never charged with anything.

Have to take a listen, but I know these guys can work a shitload of hours and the takes can be pretty tiring. I have yet to listen though.

I was on the set when they shot at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. You can tell with him more than the other actors he really was given a lot of space. I dunno though he is kind of a method actor and the character of John Conner has to be surly. I think that is hard to turn off at will I really believe the role of the Joker contributed to Ledger dying.

As for him being one of the best actors this generation, I'd have to disagree. He's had the good fortune of being in some great movies with some other great actors but I don't think he'd be able to carry a movie on his own.

American Psycho and The Machinist say hi.

And I'm done posting in this thread now. I'm probably starting to come off as a little creepier than normal.

Seriously though .. watch American Psycho and The Machinist
or I will feed you to an ATM
Lol well he did say the DP was a nice guy. He was probably just stressed out.
Yeah, I could understand that -- except he went on and on, and at one point was apparently about to attack the guy. There goes my respect for Bale.

I don't care how stressed out he is, there's no excuse for throwing a fucking tantrum like that. I hope he buys that guy a new car and gives him a written apology. No excuse.
For maximum comedy imagine him doing that in his odd growling Batman voice
I Can't. Instead I imagine Wombat trying to do a Batman voice and it sounds like Larry King instead...
No one can beat up Batman...
that doesnt say much for this generation then. hes an avg acor at best who got lucky with a few roles. there are alot of actors who eclipse him in talent but right now hes he flavor of the month.

What a fucking douche!! Someone should fucking go kick his fucking ass right now!! He can't talk to fucking people like that!!!! I don't care WHO the fuck he is!!!!!

Funny, I was going to suggest a choreographed song and dance routine a la Newsies.

I think I'll be in the minority here, but the audio didn't make me mad at Bale at all. I personally don't think he would've lashed out like that if this argument wasn't a long time coming. I obviously don't know exactly what happened, but walking on the set during a shot sounds like a pretty stupid mistake to me, and from the sound of it, he'd done it multiple times...

It doesn't change my opinion of him any.

And be honest, how many times have you thought exactly what he was saying when someone fucks something up for you?

I agree. He does one thing in most of his movies - "intense/brooding". He played nice, regular characters in The New World and Laurel Canyon and he showed zero charisma.

I agree completely. I'm the first person to be appalled at prima donna celebrity behavior but this just sounds like someone who's tired of someone else screwing up their work. Say what you will about about Bale's acting (I personally think he's well above average) but the one thing you can't question is the guy's dedication--just look at what he did to his body, bouncing back and forth from American Psycho to The Machinist to Batman to Rescue Dawn and back to Batman again. I think the dude's a professional frustrated at what he sees as a lack of professionalism. I'd be pissed too if somebody kept wandering across the set while I was trying to do a scene.

As far as the alleged "beating" goes, a couple minutes of research turns up that Bale's estranged mother and sister showed up at his hotel asking for money. When he said no they insulted his wife and he apparently either "brushed" or "pushed" his mother, depending on who you listen to (and in either case she wasn't hurt in the least--he was probably just escorting her to the door), and then they filed assault charges. The cops smelled shakedown so that was the end of it.

There's enough scumbaggery in Hollywood without blowing stuff like this out of proportion.

You could say the same for DeNiro, he always plays a quiet/brooding role.
Pachino is always screaming ABOUT SOMETHING... fairly AT RANdom.
They're still cinematic titans.
George Clooney is nothing but charismatic, but I don't think I'd call him a great actor.

Not everyone can be Johnny Depp or Will Smith.

Could be like Keanu, then he wouldn't have any role he excels at but is still in a bunch of movies.

And honestly, The New World was so boring you can't blame Bale for playing an uninteresting character. I was falling asleep before he even got screen time.

My only problem with the subject of this thread is that a douche is a useful thing that does good for humanity the world over. Therefore Bale isn't equal to a douche.

Diva is the appropriate word for Bale, right in the same class as Kanye West.

Also, I don't care how long his hours are on the set, it isn't a real job.

Wow, that was a bit extreme. I can understand losing your cool for a moment when you are intensely focusing on your job and then someone comes in (for the second time, apparently) and ruins it, but he carried on with the tirade for several minutes. That tells me that he has an anger problem, and an overinflated view of himself. I don't care if you have played a slew of great roles, the bottom line is you played them. You aren't Batman or Bateman (see what I did there?), you're just another man and you'll take an ass-whipping like any other man.

For the record, I really like Bale as an actor, and this won't have any bearing on that. What an actor plays in a movie and who they are in real life are two totally separate things. Still, that DoP should have reeled around and spouted off some shit-talk right back, and not cower down because the guy is famous and aggressive.

I agree, to a certain extent, but he seems to be playing that Cary Grant tough-guy role right now.........besides Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks and Daniel Day Lewis, I can't think of any other person making films right now that might qualify as a truly remarkable "actor"....

ie: A person whos' persona disappears so you no longer see the actor, and simply see the character.

Having said all that, nobody but an actor understands what an actor is going through......how much pressure is on them to deliver a good performance, and how much pressure they put on themselves...no doubt Bale is thinking in his head "I want to be known for something besides JUST being Batman".....and he's entitled to a few hissy-fits like this one. So long as he apologized afterwards and made up for his outburst, we can cut the guy some slack.

Yeah, actors can be fucking douchebags sometimes...but then again.....can't we all.....

still awesome in the prestige. peeps saying he has no talent need to watch the machinist. at least he said he was nice guy. lol funniest thing is when they told him to walk and he says that hes the one that wont stop walkiing

edit-thats him in the prestige in my sig
