What's the most money you've spent on a game?

We're here because we like the good deals, but what's the time when desire for a game has spread your wallet (or purse) wider than you'd anticipated?

The most I've ever spent for one was way back in... 1988, when Zelda II came out. I remember biking up to the local Waxie Maxies, whipping out my hard earned lawn-mowing money (mainly dollar bills and quarters) and slapping out about $52 big ones for Zelda II. I remember biking up there for weeks before I had enough money to get it, face pressed against the glass, staring at the gold box with a grin.

I paid full price for a Sega Nomad back in the day, which as about $250. It was my own money but my parents yelled at me anyway, trying to instill cheapassness in me. Of course in 2 months I had dropped it and broke the screen. I learned my lesson the hard way. =/

I did pay $50 for BF1942 and Chrono Cross preorders in the past few years. That is definitely the last time I'm ever going to spend $50 on a game.

i find it shocking that with all the games people own here that alot of you really never pay full price for games. id say 80-90% of my games i payed retail for. im impulsive, i have a job, and im retarded. these do not combine well. for instance i already have about 20 games waiting for me but i felt the need to buy splinter cell: pt and breakdown at full price even though they will drop in price by the time i actually play them. as i said im retarded. hell i even payed 50 dollars for shadows of destiny. like i said im impulsive. im constantly buying new release gameboy games to occupy me at work. like i said i have a job. i come here not by necessity but i love finding a good deal. for instance i got rez today at my local TRU for 25 bucks. so i think it all evens out in the end. plus i love trading here. its an addiction of mine. im usually alot less long-winded. i apologize.

X! is a number. that would be my most expensive game. except its not just a game so i dont think it qualifies. so i guess ill go with yoshis island for 92 dollars on ebay. i think that whats it was called. the one for n64. i dunno it wasnt even for me. it was for a girlfriend. the lengths ill go to my friends... the lengths ill go to...

For any one single game? I have to go way back in the day: one of the SNES Street Fighter II games...I think it was either Turbo or Super...those bitches were $79.99.
You paid $92 for Yoshi's Story? I remember getting it for $30 from Blockbuster pretty soon after it came out.
if youll read the post above, i clearly state that im retarded.

im curious to know whats the most the head cheap man paid for a game.
$60 + tax
Same here. It was Zelda LttP and Zelda MM. Each on release date. Each at $60. No tax though.

I think it would be 59.99 (twice) for Time Crisis 2 and Vampire Night (both came w/ the Guncon 2) for the PS2 when they had just come out around that Christmas time. I used Best Buy credit that I got for Christmas though and like I normally did I spent all of it in like 1 week (150+). Now thanks to this website I still have some BB credit from the most recent Christmas that normally would have been spent in a week if it wasn't for this website. Thanks again CheapyD.

I paid a local game shop $100 for the Japanese version of Castlevania Syphony of the Night. I know someone who paid $143.50 for the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Collection on Sega Saturn. I know because he bought it from me.

The most would have to been full retail for Chrono Trigger back when it was brand new. (somewhere between 60-80 dollars..)
Those Square RPGs were murder back then.

Phantasy Star II for either 69 or 79 when it first came out. Closely followed by Final Fantasy II, III, and Street Fighter II which were all in the 60 dollar range, if I remember correctly.

I think the most I've paid is $50+tax for a game. The last game I paid $50 for was probably Zelda: OOT. (I fell out of gaming for several years and only recently picked up an Xbox - haven't paid full MSRP for an Xbox game yet.)

Hmmmm, can the game of choice be bundled with something. If you think of anything else you should exclude from what choices I could present, please say what those things are.

But, I guess Final Fantasy XI if I'm able to use that.

paid 65+ tax for both conker's bad fur day and karaoke revolution
also paid $100 for the original gba at funcoland, even though it was $90 everywhere else...but i managed to get that a day or two earlier than the release.

I've spent $100 US 3 times on a game.

1) Phantasy Star 4 - Genesis
2) Shadows of the Empire - N64 (launch price at TRU)
3) Final Fantasy XI - PS2 (but it at least includes HDD)

wow.. i'm amazed that i'm the first one to say steel battalion. i paid about $189 for it.

definately worth it.. i'd be a very happy man if line of contact setups started popping up at lan centers in my area.

$45 for used arc the lad collection :) (which i'm now trying to trade, lol).

oh yea, i bought karnov as a kid for $40 retail when it first came out for nintendo. that game gave me hours of fun!

$70 for Killer Instinct Gold as well.

I'll only pay full price now if it comes with a bonus such as a demo disc or something (like the Wind Waker preorder).

I believe that is the most I have paid as well...I want to say it was 69.99, but it very well could have been 79...You are right, they were murder...but it was worth every penny.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat : 39.99

New PC to Run the game......500.00...
HOTAS Joysticks 79.99
TRACKIR2 120.00

that's probably the most.. :)
I came very close to buying Suikoden 2 yesterday for $69.95. Actually I'm still tempted to go pick it up.
Get your ass over there and buy it. (Unless it's not on awesome condition, in which case, don't.)

i know for a fact that i used to spend upwards of $60 for a game way back in the genesis days. nothing comes to mond now, but i know i spent a lot.

My college roommate used to buy Neo Geo cart games, those are like $400 a pop.

Me, I remember buying Zelda:OoT at release, but I don't know how much I paid for it, whatever retail was I guess.

75 for Arc the Lad collection preordered from WD.
Next up, 60 bucks for Karoake Revolution with mic. But that was paid for with gift cards we had received, so it wasn't cash out of hand.
I do recall dropping about 400 bucks on the 32x, Star Wars Arcade, Doom, and one other game when the 32x was released [yes, i bought it when it first came out.] I had a friend who ran a game store, and his business wasn't doing well, so I bought it mostly as a favor. Then, two years later, Ibought a brand new 32x and about five games for 25 bucks for mybrother's birthday....
Games definitely have dropped in price, overall, esp. considering what you get for them. I remember my mom driving me to Eckerd [yes, Eckerd] to buy Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 for about forty bucks--which was net from about 7 lawn mowings. But we really played the crap out of those games, when you had to save up for it so much.

The most I've ever paid for a single game (well, two games really) is $90 for Dungeons & Dragons Collection for the Saturn. I loved the arcade versions of both of the games in the collection (Shadows over Mystaria and Tower of Doom), so I just had to have them for the Saturn.

How the fuck did you get Steel Battalion for $189?

metal slug 2 for the neo geo it was $200

panzer dragoon saga it was $129

crazy climber for the atari 2600 I paid $100

$70 for a used Time Crisis II with a GunCon2 off eBay....none of the stores within about 50 miles or so had it in stock and I couldn't get it anywhere else online....I ended up selling it again about a month later for $60 when it finally clicked that I had paid too much for the game especially when it was used.

Other than that, tons of N64 games for $60-70 each when they came out. I used to always pay full price for games but I will rarely pay full price anymore since there is CAG.

I bought alot of expensive games like a dumb ass ,

Shining Force 3= $125.00 for Saturn

Chrono Trigger= $75.00 for SNES

It was werid cuz i bought the Saturn for $15.00 and then Shining Force for $125.00 at then known as Funcoland.... Ouch HUH!!

$199 for Steel Battalion the day it came out....then I returned it about a week later because of a combination of buyers remorse and the fact that my HUGE feet were about to break the petals right off the floor base ^_^ ....

It was $200 when it came out? Man, I must be losing my mind, I tried to get it the Christmas it came out and I could've sworn it cost $300.
