First, my auction: Here

The guy who wins it is in Taiwan. He contacted me beforehand to discuss shipping, which was hella expensive, but he seemed cool with it.

So, he wins on Monday. Since then, he tries to tell me that he cannot use Paypal, for some meaningless reason. Alright, I say, how's about bidpay, or another money order site? He says (this is where I go from thinking it's sorta fishy to 'fuck this guy'): What is a money order and where can I get one?

During this, he tells me he'd be glad to wire the money to me, but first he needs my bank address and account number. I say, 'no way dude."

Evidently, his English isn't so hot, so he asks again (after I suggest using another computer for PP, trying a MO, etc.). I didn't hear from him for 24 hours, so I e-mail him, asking what he has decided to do. He replies, and asks me for my fucking bank account number!!!

It's pretty obvious to me that it's a scam, but, since I'd never heard of, seen, or experienced this before, I thought I'd point it out for others. Second, since I have to wait 7 days (until Monday) to file for a relisting credit refund (so I can relist this computer and not pay for the previous auction), I'd kinda like to discuss the possibilities I may have with this person. Are there any?

Thanks for the input in advance,

myke.

Taiwan seems to be scam central. Also in the future you should limit your auction to continental us only it saves on those headaches. But I definetly say you should not deal with this guy

I agree jlarlee, that staying in the 48 would make life easier. However, since I try to buy items from other countries, I feel the need to reciprocate (which, it seems, has bitten me in the bee-hind).

I just sold a copy of EU Shenmue II (Dreamcast) for $60 to a woman in Brazil; I don't know what it might have gone for if she didn't win, though.

I want to trust people, but that makes me a damn fool most times.

Just because somebody has your bank account number doesn't mean they can just siphon whatever they want out. Think about it, I can't take somebody's cancelled check, take the account number, and then call up the bank and be like "Yep...just send it all over" The bank has to have authorization for ANYBODY to take money out like that, for instance your cable or electric company.

I have had international bidders do wire transfers into my account without any problems.

I don't think you should give ANYONE international your bank account number. If he wants to pay you tell him to Western Union you the money, they're everywhere. My mom in law just went thru getting charges made in Colombia of all places, be careful with your info man.

With the correct information they can syphon money out. Remember the laws are different there and if the crime is in the USA then in Taiwan he would not be prosecuted.

NEVER take the chance..it's a scam.

Sounds Shady....zero feedback for a user of 3 years. I wouldnt do it..because there is no protection you have if you do give him your info.i would do it like the other guys said it and ask for his info and see what he says. if you dont get the answer you like than fuck it. relist it and try to again.

Tell him/her to use Western Union then.

Usually I avoid western union like the plague, however that's when sellers want me to send to them.

When it's coming to you, it's the buyer that has to take a leap of faith....

Or just offer it to the 2nd highest bidder for $10 less.

There's a symbol next to that guys name that says he changed his user name within the past 30 days. He's definitely hiding something.

Tell him either get paypal going, send a MO, or tough shit. Thats too much money to be playing around with.

If he will not do what you specifically stated in the actuin, drop him. Check on the bidder before him, and if that doesnt work, get your fee's back, re-list and go from there.

Thanks for the sound advice; I must wait (unfortunately) to relist until Monday, but that's been my plan all along. I've just never seen this kind of setup before, so I thought I'd point it out is all.

That's interesting that you've had luck, secretvampire; however, I'm agreeing with defender's assessment that international law ain't gonna cover my ass.

$860 for this computer is a hella good deal, I must say, so I don't think I'll do the second chance.

tick, tock...
