I have to say that I wasn't expecting much from this game when it was first announced; after all, what was the last GOOD Batman game (IMO, the one for the NES was it)? This actually looks really cool and, if done right, could redeem the franchise on the gaming front.

This will be a great game. I love the levels you can attack people from. The air, on foot, or underground!

Welcome to 2008!

Also news from 2008...EA will release Madden 2010, NCAA 2010, and Tiger Woods 2010 sometime in 2009, and Final Fantasy XIII will be out in Japan next year!

sorry to say yeah i'm...After playing the MK vs DC game i didnt think they would be making a new BATMAN game ..... i didnt think a game would come out but seeing the video i'm 75 % get in it

Either way, this creates a discussion thread for the game now. It looks interesting, but I'm not a big enough fan to drop $60 on it, let alone $100.

I'm definitely intrigued, but still a bit skeptical... the whole "action stealth" thing seems interesting, and it's something I've always been wanting as an alternative to the "slow creeping splinter cell" approach to stealth(it's a shame Dark Sector never really stuck with the idea back during that old 2005 trailer) It doesn't hurt that they have Mark Hamill as the joker either, although he definitely sounds older and not quite as maniacally chipper.

My main concern is that the game just might be too generic and repetetive. Is the stealth element really going to be organic or are you just going to have to climb to the roof and dive kick ad nauseum?

This is nitpicky, but can we change the thread name to something like "batman arkham asylum discussion"?
I would eat Rocks before I payed $100 for it. Still I am looking forward to this game.
mix rocks with nerds, and paint the rocks. that way you get a fruity explosion when your teeth crumble and it's hard to tell the difference between the the candy and not-candy.

OP, you should just change the title to something like.... "Batman: ~~~~ Gen. Discussion"(without your caps lock on).....since this is not new news and can be turned into the unofficial thread for your game

I was at Target today, and their Ps3 has a playable demo for this on it. It was just a challange mode where your in a room, and Joker releases bigger and bigger waves of henchmen at you. Even though it's a demo the fight aspect of this is really solid, and has a nice cinimatic feel to it.

The fighting is centered around 3 buttons. Theres your basic attack button, a counter button, and a move where you use your cape to stun enimes. Thre was also a take down attack if you press the attack and counter buttons together near a stunned enemy. The moves are really cool, but I really hope you don't get stuck in to many situations like this, because it will get boring fast.

I played two challanges, the first one unloced the 2nd 1, and then there were about 10 other locked challanges,I don't know if I would have beat the 2nd challange(it was REALLY hard) if it would have unlocked more.

I just brought this up because if stores have a demo for it, that means that a XBL and PSN demo might be on the horizon.
Wow, what's in the collector's edition for it to be $100 dollars.
Just found a riddle by the riddler form gamestop??

"Not responsible for orders delayed due to inclement weather, incorrect address, credit card information or delays caused by The Riddler confusing your mail person with the famous riddle, "What creature walks on 4 legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?"

Anyone know the answer?

Man
can you explain it to me? I don't get it.
Oedipus answered: "Man; as an infant, he crawls on all fours, as an adult, he walks on two legs and, in old age, he relies on a walking stick".

LMAO, I think I understand the riddle

4 Legs in the morning (Your asleep on your back, so all FOUR limbs)
2 Legs in the afternoon (You are working, which usually consist of walking on both feet)
3 Legs at night (Basically sex, with the third limb being your penis)

am I right?

EDIT: Nope nvm I'm Wrong

But it can't be
Man since we don't have 24 hour lifespans, right?

All this just reminds me of Adam West Batman and Burt Ward Robin, where they'd just stand there and figure out complex ass riddles in seconds.

lmao I thought the same thing about the 3 legs.

Lol I remember that! I haven't seen those episodes or the movie in a long time. It'd be annoying if they have riddles throughout the game though.

Hey uhh, I have someone who's telling me they might be able to get a copy of this game may 1st. He said 50/50 chance. How likely is this? Does anyone know if it's still in production or complete or at least almost complete?

I'll post pics if I do get it early, but I'm not counting on it.

For a late June release? Most likely a demo since it's at least a month away from going gold.

I got in on this for the $52 amazon is sellin it for, just a hair above my "must buy" point ($50) so i figured why not? plus the ps3 gets the joker levels so it's all good in my book.

If it is only a demo, hopefully it's different from the one in stores lol.

Still a "rumor" but...
It may take a bit longer for the Caped Crusader to round up his Rogue Gallery in Batman: Arkham Asylum, as "sources close to the game" tell Game Informer that the title has been pushed back from its expected June release until sometime later this year.

Despite impressing us earlier this year, the unspecified sources tell Game Informer than the game will now ship sometime in 2009's fourth quarter. If true, and while disappointing, the delay will give us more time to work on work on our Batarang hurling technique. Neither Eidos nor Warner Bros. have reportedly offered a comment on the cause behind the delay, though we have reached out to both ourselves for more.
The game is officially delayed.

From Kotaku.com
Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment can today confirm that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released at the end of summer 2009. This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylum is of the highest quality for gamers.
If its only a demo then this guy should be less worried about if it is the one in stores, and more worried about the fact that he just paid $52 for a demo. lol.

Ugh all of these damned exclusives are confusing. So...let me get this straight. We get joker's maps for free on ps3, but in order to get the scarecrow maps we need to preorder with gamestop? Will these never be released as downloadable content (as in we pay online?) Also...supposedly the 360 version comes with poison ivy challenge maps? (i'm not so sure about this one...).

hmmm...so this is what it feels like to be a cow.

I don't know about all the exclusive maps, but I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition(It was on sale for $90.99, and I got the half-off coupon for trade-ins a little while ago so about $45.50 for the CE) at Amazon, and you get an exclusive comic. I tried the demo, but I'm not familiar with the PS3 controls so it was just button mashing, but it looked pretty.

I second the idea of changing the thread to "Batman Arkham Asylum Discussion" or some such stuff.

Agreed.

I dunno, I like the name of this thread. It is pretty epic in scope.

A new Batman game coming out soon, called BATMAN.

Love it.

Played the demo and liked it. Not sure if I $60 liked it but it looks damn good. I like the Batman gadgets and the brawling is phenominal, but my fear is that it's going to be extremely linear (like there's only one way out of every room linear). Also, maybe it was just in the demo, but there was only one place that he could hook his batline into to pull himself up; I was hoping it would be more like Tenchu where you could shoot it anywhere. Regardless, it's a good demo and one I'll probably go back and play. Again, I'm on the fence about spending $60 for this.

it was ok. sucks it ended so soon but from what i could tell of the game it didnt feel like what they were describing. the combat was ok . the run button should have been set to the L3 button its weird to hold jump to run. didnt like how all those gargoyles were "placed" conveiently all over the place it would have been better to be able to use the grappling hook or any of his other swinging devices on more surfaces. itll be interesting to see how its reviewed and what other bat items and moves are there to be used.

i agree with you crimson paw it should have been more like tenchu but maybe the best the game has to offer takes time to see didnt see much of him using the shadows though.

major positive though is they used the cartoon voices. mark hamill will always be my favorite joker.
