For the time being, CAGFC has been scaled back to only having a Heavyweight division using career CAFs. Check out www.cagfc.comxa.com for information on the new format and latest updates on upcoming CAGFC events!

Hello everybody! Welcome to the official home of the CheapAssGamer Fighting Championship! Brought to you by n8rockerasu! With the impending release of UFC 2009: Undisputed, it's only natural that we CAGs lock ourselves in the octagon and throw down! For all intents and purposes, this will be similar to any other online sports league you've been a part of. The difference is, this is man against man. No seasons. No schedules. No AI teammates. No one to blame but yourself.

WHAT IS CAGFC AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
CAGFC is short for Cheap Ass Gamer Fighting Championship. At its core, CAGFC is a league for the recently released Xbox 360 game UFC 2009: Undisputed. But we strive to exceed the limitations of a typical sports league. Rather than relying on team play or a points system, CAGFC will mimic a real world fighting organization. We use custom fighters that you create in the CAREER portion of the game, and rely on a ranking system based on the fighter's CAGFC record and their overall rating. This allows us to schedule competitive weekly cards, making sure that the right fighters are matched up against each other. We have five weight divisions, which are as follows:

Heavyweight (over 205lbs - 265lbs)
Light Heavyweight (over 185lbs - 205lbs)
Middleweight (over 170lbs - 185lbs)
Welterweight (over 155lbs - 170lbs)
Lightweight (over 145lbs - 155lbs)

There is a champion in each division. This champion is required to defend his belt once a week or he will relinquish it and the top two contenders will battle for it (unless he notifies either CAGLeagueSports or n8rockerasu of the absence in advance, so that arrangements may be made). This system allows flexibility, not only for CAGFC, but for its members as well. If you want to take a break from scheduled matches so you can work on your fighter, or even redo your career, you're free to do so at any time. Your absence might cause a slip in the rankings, but it doesn't hurt your online career or your standing with CAGFC. This is YOUR fighting career. It's up to you what you make of it.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
As stated, we have an on-going sign up here. Anybody who wants to join CAGFC may do so at any time by posting the following fighter information:

Name:
Height:
Weight:
Fighting Styles:
Overall Rating: (this can be seen when scrolling through the fighters in exhibition mode)
CAN I SIGN UP MORE THAN ONE FIGHTER?
Yes, we allow members to compete in multiple weight classes by having multiple fighters. There are four requirements for this, however, which are as follows:

1. Each of your fighters must compete in a different weight class.

2. Like with your original fighter, your additional fighter(s) must be created in the CAREER portion of the game. The fighter can be added at any point during said career, but the important part is that he's working toward CAGFC and earning his spot.

3. Members will be limited to a maximum of 3 created fighters. By competing in multiple weight classes and having multiple fights per week, it increases your level of responsibility to CAGFC and the other fighters. The more fighters you add, the greater the risk for fights going uncompleted and simply cluttering the weight division. We feel that having 3 fighters is enough for anyone to feel very active in CAGFC.

4. Before adding an additional fighter, each of your current fighters must have 2 CAGFC fights. For example:
Fighter A - Can be added at initial sign up
Fighter B - Can be added once Fighter A has 2 fights
Fighter C - Can be added once Fighter B has 2 fights

By meeting these requirements, you will demonstrate that you can handle controlling multiple fighters in CAGFC and will be rewarded with a very active and enjoyable experience. Thank you for your cooperation!
WHEN DO I FIGHT?
Weekly cards will be posted on Fridays, with the deadline for those fights being the following Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. All fighters will be put on the card unless CAGLeagueSports or n8rockerasu is notified in advance that you do not wish to fight that upcoming week. Any fighter who is placed on a card will either have to fight or forfeit and receive a loss. If you miss a fight, your participation in the league will be reviewed, and you may not appear on another card until your activity in the thread increases. Lower ranked fighters will fight other lower ranked fighters, with continuous opportunities to move up in the rankings. The top 3 contenders will be eligible for a title shot at any time.

Title fights should be set up by the defending champion and set for a length of 5 ROUNDS.

The results of your fights should be posted in this thread by both the winner and the loser (to maintain accuracy) in the following format:

Winner | Loser | Decision (ie. KO, TKO, submission, unanimous decision, split decision) | Time/Round
WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
I don't have this game, but this is a pretty bad ass thread.

BTW, thanks for organizing this.
Makes a fun game even better, and really nice job on the graphics and
layout of the original post.
Well done sir!
*claps*

Thanks for setting up this league man! Also the artwork is pretty sick.
Non-Career CAF Tournament #1
In addition to the regular weekly card, we will be holding a special tournament using NON-CAREER, NON-GLITCHED CAFs in the Light Heavyweight division. The tournament will be single elimination and will be used as a test to gauge interest in the possibility of shifting the focus of CAGFC to non-career CAFs.

Here's the bracket for the tournament. Match ups were created using a random generator on Random.org, the results of which I pasted into the bracket so you could see for yourself. Feel free to get these fights started, and post results as you normally would (maybe specifying that it's for the tournament just to make it easier to keep things straight). Feedback about the difference in fights from regular career CAFs is also encouraged. Good luck!

5/27/09 - TOURNAMENT UPDATE #2
All right guys. The tournament has been going fairly well. CAGFC has already crowned its first Light Heavyweight and Welterweight champions, in Jean Claude and Codi Garber, respectively.

However, we've hit a few snags in a couple of the other brackets. I wanted to give everyone an extra day or two to try to get these matches in, but in the interest of time, the following decisions have been rendered.

In the Heavyweight division, Blake Garber and Brandon Craig have had trouble finding a time for their fight. As of a couple days ago, Craig made a post saying he would forfeit the match because he hasn't had time to play. As a result, Garber will move on to face Jay Gillums in the semi-finals.

In the Middleweight division, Eric Ortiz and Tyler Young have had trouble getting their times synched up. This created a difficult situation because Young has been available to play the past several days, but he's also leaving tomorrow and will be gone a few weeks for his wedding, honeymoon, etc. (CONGRATULATIONS TYLER!!!) There's not much sense in allowing Young to advance in the tournament, if he'll be unable to finish. At the same time, it's not really fair to give him a loss when he tried to get the fights done on time. Therefore, the match between Ortiz and Young will be ruled a draw, with Ortiz moving on to the finals to face Matt Young.

And finally, in the Lightweight division, Christian Martinez has also stated his lack of time to play the game, and his willingness to forfeit the match. As a result, Manny Pacquiao will move on to the finals to face Andrew Kennel.

Let's get these last few fights done as soon as possible guys. As previously mentioned, we'd like the tournament finished this weekend. If we can make that happen, CAGFC2 would be set to take place on Saturday, June 6th.

5/22/09 - TOURNAMENT TO DECIDE FIRST CAGFC CHAMPIONS! STARTS TOMORROW!!!
BRACKETS COMING SOON!!!

5/21/09 - TOURNAMENT UPDATE
Now that every division has at least two fighters, we WILL be starting the tournament on Saturday (5/23). The matchups will be chosen at random and the brackets will be posted by Saturday morning.

Registration for the tournament will continue until the bracket has been posted. At this point, some weight classes have an odd number of fighters. If that is still true when the bracket is made, the highest ranked fighter will receive a bye in the first round. The tournament will be single elimination and the results of each fight should be posted in this thread by both the winner and the loser (to maintain accuracy) in the following format:

Winner | Loser | Decision (ie. KO, TKO, submission, unanimous decision, split decision) | Time/Round

After the tournament, fighter rankings will be assigned based on performance and/or overall rating, and used as a means for setting up matches in the future. Any fighter who registers for CAGFC after the tournament will be added to the roster as the lowest ranked fighter in their weight class. Moving up in the rankings will be up to them.

The start is almost here guys. I hope you're all ready! :)

5/19/09 - REGISTRATION
All right, now that the game is officially out, and it has been confirmed that CAFs can be used online (and even improve as you progress in your career), lets start the actual "registration" process. In case anybody doesn't know, it's unneccessary to create your CAF in exhibition mode. You should just start a career, set your attributes and appearance, save it, and then he'll be available for both exhibition and online fighting. As your fighter's stats improve in his career, so do his stats in exhibition/online.

Once you've done this, we'd like everybody to post their fighter's stats in the following format.

Name:
Height:
Weight:
Fighting Styles:
Overall Rating: (this can be seen when scrolling through the fighters in exhibition mode)

As this information starts to come in, we'll start setting up the weight classes, which will then lead to our first tournament to determine the first CAGFC champions in each weight class. We'd like the tournament to start by Saturday, May 23rd, so try to get your info posted ASAP. Thanks guys!

4/24/09 - BASIC INFORMATION
Since the game isn't out yet, the exact details of the CAGFC are still being hammered out, and we are unsure whether we'll be using created fighters or real fighters in the game. Using created fighters would allow everybody to be on an equal level (whether through the game's default settings or by setting a point limit when creating your fighter). Using actual fighters would cause some fighters to have a natural advantage, but it would also allow people to use their favorite warrior of the octagon. Obviously, if we used real fighters, we'd have to have a draft. Feel free to voice your opinion on what you guys would rather do.

Either way, there will be weight classes, with a CAGFC belt for each class. The weight classes are:
Heavyweight (over 205lbs - 265lbs)
Light Heavyweight (over 185lbs - 205lbs)
Middleweight (over 170lbs - 185lbs)
Welterweight (over 155lbs - 170lbs)
Lightweight (over 145lbs - 155lbs)

To determine the first champion in each weight class, we will have a tournament. Thereafter, fighters will be ranked, and the reigning champion will be required to defend his title once a week, or it will be stripped from him. The results of your fights should be reported here, so records can be tracked and rankings can be fair and accurate. Report fights in the following format:
Winner | Loser | Decision (ie. KO, TKO, submission, unanimous decision, split decision) | Time/Round

Those are the basics for right now. Feel free to voice your interest and your opinions. This should be WAY more flexible than most leagues considering we have no schedule, no timetables, and will be using a ranking system. You can join whenever you feel like, but obviously, just like in real life, you'll be starting as an unknown and will have to make a name for yourself. This is why I'd kinda like to use created fighters, so there wouldn't be any obvious indicators of who's good and who isn't. But I'm definitely open to ideas. I hope everybody enjoys this and we get a lot of participants. I'm really looking forward to it!

If we use real fighters, we will either have a draft, or another idea that was thought of is not keeping one set fighter (unless you're holding a belt...in which case you'd have to defend with the fighter you won it with), but allowing the challenger to pick any fighter to try to beat you.

The drawback of this system is there wouldn't be much of a "career" feel or an identity for each CAG, but more of a "who's the best at the game" feel. Deciding how to do weight classes would also be trickier since you could potentially challenge for multiple classes at once. This is just another idea that was brought up though. Obviously, we'll have a better idea of how things would work when the game is released.

Downloaded the demo and had a blast despite being a casual MMA fan (and by casual, I mean I've seen a few fights and can name a few fighters). I managed to put together some pretty combos and takedowns as well as a couple of vicious knockouts. Completely in agreeance that casual players are going to be able to compete pretty well using basic strikes and takedowns and the hardcore players are going to be going for submissions. I like that it's an actual struggle once it goes to the mat - shoudl definitely avoid the cheap tapouts that have plagued this genre since the beginning.

Hopefully I can find a deal on it somewhere - definitely interested in a CAGFC if it's put together well. Intrigued by the use of created fighters to ensure a level playing field.
Intrigued by the use of created fighters to ensure a level playing field.
I agree. I forgot to mention that I would rather use created fighters.

Nice...I finally was able to pull off a couple submissions. Ironically, I had an easier time getting them with Chuck than with Shogun. My thought on this is that they made Chuck too good. Both his takedown and submission defense are from about 2004, haha. The first sub I pulled was freaking sweet though. I was on the bottom with Shogun in my guard, because I wanted to try catching one of his punches. He threw a big left, I grabbed his wrist, threw my leg across, and had an armbar in place. I started going crazy on the face buttons, and finally as I rolled him to his back, it sunk in fully, and he tapped. JJSP is totally right. It's a complete struggle on the mat, especially trying to pull off a submission, but it really makes it that much more satisfying when you do get one.

After winning the next fight with a Kimura, I decided it was finally time to up the difficulty. Since dominating fights was never a problem, I jumped up to expert...and HOLY SHIT!!! You have to fight smart to even have a chance. For the most part, you can forget about throwing any kind of heavy shot with LB (unless it's a very well timed counter). Shogun knew my gameplan completely and just kept taking me down. He passed my guard without any difficulty and was fully mounted within seconds. I had to just cover up, and try for a major reversal. It was a struggle to get them though, as he'd just throw me back down most of the time. I lost about 5-6 fights due to hammerfists while mounted and a couple triangle chokes that I couldn't get out of...most of which happened in the first round. The only thing I didn't like about playing on expert is that when I had mount, I was getting reversed like it was nothing.

Once I started being more strategic with my striking, I got the fights to go into the 2nd and 3rd round, but kept losing. Finally, on like my 10th attempt, I knocked Shogun out with a couple brutal head kicks. This experience gave me 100% confidence in the game, and I can absolutely say that someone who learns the controls well will be able to destroy anybody who just tries to button mash. Facing a skilled opponent forces you to actually set up your strikes and bust your ass to stand the fight up if your opponent is good on the ground. There may be some exaggerations here and there, but for the most part, it plays out like a real MMA fight.

There are already some guys that have been talking about running a league, so you may want to consult with them since you're new. But I'll join if this thing happens.

Just played the demo, damn good game. Might not pick up the new Fight Night right away now. Count me in as well. Will be getting it from yf360g.

Oh, it was buried in the OMFG WALL OF TEXT. Anyway, count me in. Real guys, CAFs, I don't care. I'll have a man in every division if possible. I'm hooked on the demo.

Wall of text? That's a paragraph bitch! If I knew how, I'd be all indenting and shit in this motherfucker! In my hood, we follow proper writing style. MLA motherfucker!

Okay, I read on GameFAQs that in order to take your CAF online, you have to beat the career mode and "retire" him. If that's true, goodbye CAFs for this league.

You guys need to read the OP. There's no point in "calling dibs" on a fighter. If real fighters are used, a draft will be held. Personally, I'd rather use created fighters, but if what Matt said is true, that won't work. I tried to find what he was referencing, and read through like 5 pages on the GameFAQs board, but I just couldn't take it anymore.

The stupidity on that site is incredible. I think there are more 12 year boys there than at Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch. If I hear one more person talking about Kimbo Slice, or comparing UFC to WWE, I might shoot somebody. Hopefully whatever Matt found is wrong though. Like others have said, I'd like to have an even playing field.

Oh, also, Randy Couture allegedly signed a contract with EA to make an MMA game. Although, it seems destined to fail if it doesn't have the UFC license. I mean, they could go to Affliction and get guys like Fedor and Barnett, but it wouldn't have the same brand appeal. I'm sure there will be plenty of options to create Randy in UFC 2009. Just go with that.

I just called Dib's cause I'm a Retard. But if what Matt said is true, I will glady retire my Player. But we will have to see once it comes out. Hell, I honestly could play as anyone at this point and love it. :D

I'm down like Charlie Brown for this. No point on calling a fighter so I won't bother. I don't even know exactly how a league will work but IDK I'm in.

Count me in for this. I'm getting this game day 1 and I'm intrigued to play it online.

Well if the fact you can't use CAF's unless you 'retire' them in career mode, that is probably out. So my thought is this:

For the tournament for when we start then we will 'call fighters' for each weight division. To start we'll have you pick one weight division and have a fighter in said division (this is a device to get you to maybe actually call a LW or WW). Then after the tourney's we'll have our champs.

At this point as in the OP anyone can challenge the champion and use any fighter in that weight class. If you are the champ you always use the fighter you won with until you lose the belt. After you have defended YOUR belt three times, you can start to challenge in another weight class if you desire. Now as far as CAF's go, I think if all CAF's aren't going to be 99's you can use them as well if you wish but I wouldn't want to force anyone to retire their CAF's for sake of achievements etc. etc.

Anyways thats the basic layout I'm thinking about, let me know how you feel about it?

I like the basic framework of what you're saying. It's just a little confusing, and seems a bit rough around the edges. I think if we're not able to use CAF's, we'll either HAVE to go with a "non specific" fighter system and/or limit people to one weight class. The reason being, there are only 80 fighters in the game. We've already got 21 CAGs showing interest in participating. If each of them had a guy in each weight class, that's over 100 fighters. It just won't work like that.

I'm also somewhat apprehensive of allowing people multiple fighters in multiple weight classes because I think it would kinda turn into a free for all, and would be really difficult to keep up with (records, rankings, etc.). I really, really hope the stuff about CAF's isn't true because it would make things so much easier. For instance, if you wanted to change weight classes, you could just edit your CAF and compete against a new group of people.

If we can't use CAF's, for the tournament, I think it would make more sense to have people just commit to a weight class. If we're not going to be able to hold people to being specific fighters anyway, you might as well have it like that from the beginning. It would kinda give it more of a "Mortal Kombat" feel, allowing people to switch from fighter to fighter (other than the champion), but as long as everyone still reports their results, we can still track records and rank the CAG's ability moreso than who they're using.

I don't really like the wording of "anyone can challenge the champion". Here's why. Like any online league, there are going to be people who put a lot into it, and people who only look at the game once every couple weeks. I don't think those people who half ass it deserve a title shot just because the champion happens to be online. If the champ is having to defend his belt at least once a week, he shouldn't have to risk losing it to somebody only putting in half the effort. I do like what you mentioned before about any of the top 3 contenders being able to challenge though. That keeps it fair, but allows room for flexibility as well.

My favorite thing about having a ranking system is that anybody who dicks around or doesn't follow through on their committment, simply falls in the rankings. It's not like other leagues where we have to worry about kicking people out, or having everybody meet a weekly deadline. If people don't play the game often, they fall to the bottom. No big deal.

Thinking along those lines though, I think we should only allow people to fight the same opponent once a week (and have it count toward their record). Considering that the fights for this game can end in 15 seconds, you could play someone over and over again, and rack up 50 wins in a day, haha. If we don't impose some kind of regulation there, we'll have guys with 213-67 records in a week. I would say that the first fight counts and everything thereafter is just practice...unless of course you agreed beforehand to have a couple "sparring sessions" before your official fight.

Those are just some ideas off the top of my head anyway.

You could always just set up a card each week and give us till the end of the week to complete fights. You could number them like the UFC- CAGFC 1, CAGFC 2, etc.

Go ahead and add my name to the list :bouncy:

Hopefully there will be a way we will be able to use CAFs, but if not I will not have a problem fighting as a LW or WW

Yeah, see I like that idea too. I'd just want to do it in a way that wasn't TOO "schedule" like. I mean, the last thing I want talon or myself to have to do is PM people and be like "How come you didn't get your fight in?" Granted, not finding time for a 15 minute (at most) fight is far more pathetic than not having time for a one hour baseball game or something. I like the organization that set cards would provide though. This brainstorming is good. It'll give us a head start when we see how the actual game is structured.

Yeah, I like the card idea as well. One thing I forgot to mention was the initial rankings after the tournament will determine your rankings at first so runner up is no. 1 contender, person who lost in the semis to the champ is number 2 etc... My idea with the being able to hop weight classes is that lets say you win the MW belt with Silva, after defending a few times I'd rather let someone do something a little different rather than have to keep fighting with that guy.

To me this is the strength of a not team sport game, you can change it up to keep it interesting, sick of fighting in a certain division then move around. I guess the other idea is that you can only have one 'active' fighter in each weight class. So if you're fighting with Rampage and you decide that no one is Matt Serra and you'd like to try him you can give up Rampage and start at the bottom of the other weight class.

Just some more thoughts. We could totally do the card idea, but it would require more commitment I suppose. I think if you set up like a Saturday or something, everyone could get on for the 15 minutes req'd for the fight. Like n8 said, its a LOT easier than an hour baseball or madden game. Though with the cards, you'd have to trust n8 and I's matchup making ability. Not everyone would be in a title fight week after week, so everyone would have to agree that the two of us (or we could have another and make it three so there'd be a vote), have the last say. But also n8 and I would have to discuss how our fights would be put in. thats the only part tbh.

I think we're starting to jive now. :) My main goal or desire for this is just to have mirror the actual UFC as much as possible...which is why I thought using CAFs would be good, since they're more flexible like I said. I actually like your idea that you just said for switching from one fighter to another if you want to change weight classes. That would keep things fairly organized and still give people some semblance of a "career" that could be tracked. Competing in multiple weight classes at the same time would just be too chaotic and difficult to keep up with. Especially with as many CAGs as we're going to have.

Honestly, for some reason, I trust your and my matchmaking ability. I mean, for the most part, I think the matches will make themselves. It shouldn't be hard to recognize when somebody has earned a title shot, or when the top two contenders are so evenly matched that they need to fight before getting to the champ. It also would make it a lot easier to ensure that people only have one official fight per week, which again makes things more realistic in my opinion.

I know everybody will probably want to fight as much as possible, but keeping the "league" organized and maintainable is the only thing that gives it purpose really. Otherwise, it's no different from random quick play. Maybe we could set up the cards for Saturday nights, but have a policy that if you're not available, it's up to you to schedule a time with your opponent BEFORE that date to get your fight in. Saturday would just be the official fight day, with the next week's card going up on Sunday. What do you think?

Yeah I think that should work. The biggest thing to decide is between CAF's and real fighters. With 80 fighters it wouldn't be that hard to make sure everyone got a decent fighter to start with, of course some classes are more loaded than others but I still think if 10 people sign up for the LHW division, that gives people all the more incentive to go MW, WW or LW so they can have a belt etc. So if you figure we have maybe 20 committed CAG'ers you are going to average around 5 per weight class while I'd assume HW and LHW will be a bit heavier, you aren't going to get into someone having a bad fighter or anything. Plus you will get casuals that might stroll in have a few fights and decide they can't cut it :)

I think that this setup is built for the long haul which is awesome. Now the thing with the weekly cards is that the belt holder would defend his title every week then? Maybe they defend every other card and they can be in another fight during their off week? that'd be maybe more realistic. Like you can have CAGFC 1 then the next week have a fight night for up and coming contenders? Just another idea to throw in there. So you can determine the contenders for the belt, then they fight in the PPV the next week. So during the fight night weeks the champs can fight with their CAF's or something on an 'undercard' and on the PPV's those not getting title shots could do the same. That way your getting the best of both worlds!

This! :applause:

I can see it now, CAGFC 1, Mir tko [insert name here]. If we use CAF's i'am still making my guy frank mir and look like him

I meant to respond to this a couple days ago, but somehow forgot. You're right, with 80+ fighters, it would be plenty for everyone to definitely have one good fighter. Actually, if we do have a draft, depending on the number of CAGs we have, we could go 2 rounds deep, where everybody has a main fighter and a secondary fighter. The only restriction would be they'd have to be in two different weight classes. That way, you could play the game more often, get more fights, and compete in two weight classes, although you'd be handicapped in one weight class (more of a challenge).

My only concern doing it this way would be for the future and the potential of growing and adding more CAGs. Since we are doing something with no timetable, and people can join at any time, we wouldn't want to run out of fighters. I guess at worst, we could start with 2 fighters each, but as more people join, force the lower ranked (or higher ranked?) CAGs to give up their 2nd fighter. I'd also suggest if anybody is inactive for two straight weeks without notification, they forfeit their fighter. Right now, we've got 24 guys saying they want to join. We'll see how many actually buy the game and participate, but I do have more confidence in this than in most leagues because the time committment is so much smaller.

As far as CAFs go, they might not even be an option to use online (at least for some time). What people were saying is that to retire them, you have to actually beat the single player mode. Who knows how lengthy that will actually be, but obviously, we wouldn't want CAFs with a rating of 72 going up against Frank Mir or something. We'll have to see exactly how CAFs are implemented, but if we use my 2 fighters per CAG idea, I think we could get by without them...at least initially. We might want to switch to all CAFs once everybody has beaten the game and ranked up their created guy a bunch. I could see it being really cool then.
