Hey CAG'ers.

My fiancee and I are currently in the final stages of buying a house. It is a foreclosure home though so it unfortunately needs new appliances. We have been to the standard Best Buy, Lowe's etc. but I was wondering if there was anywhere else online or otherwise that might have better prices. We need a fridge, range, over the range micro and W/D. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I know for Lowe's (I work there) they will usually beat anybody else's (verifiable) price by 10%. Also there is a 10% off coupon you can get by joining lowesmoving.com. I believe Home Depot has one in the post office change of address packet. Also check out the scratch and dent selection at the various store. We had a nice french door samsung today that had a quarter sized dent on the side out of the box today that got marked down $250

Lowe's should have a clearance section. Check you local CraigsList as well, sometimes you can get barely used stuff at a good price

Spend the money and get one of those all in one washer dryer's. On another note I saw a thread on slickdeals for washer dryer combo. Think it was to price match a best buy ad to lowe's or home depot. Check on SD's. I also believe the post office mover's coupons has a 10% off @ best buy coupon in it. You can ussually pick this up at the post office.

The only reason I would hesitate buying used from someone else is that they may bring critters with them. I know it's a big problem with furniture and I've seen electronics and appliances opened up with all sorts of bugs inside, so you might do so at your own risk.

Otherwise, check out the stuff knocked down because of scratches and dents, especially those that might not be in visible places. Some people are really anal about their stuff and want absolute perfection.

Thanks for the advice on the scratch and dent stuff. Didn't know those sections existed in Lowe's. We are just starting out so obviously perfection isn't necessary for us.

And I've thought about trying to use craigslist but I hesitate spending anything over a couple hundred bucks on something used from someone I don't know. Also thanks for the heads up on Lowe's moving!

Also, does anyone have any brand recommendations? We've been looking at LG fridges and GE ranges.

They are all basically the same carcass. There are only a few companies that make the appliances. So the big difference is features and cost.

The "scratch and dent" stuff in Lowe's will be all around the appliance area, just ask.

Sears and other BMs have "outlet" locations.

I pm'd/couponed many of my kitchen appliances but found a matching Sears fridge at their outlet (scratch/dent) store...saved 50%
Do your homework, take your time, and you will save a small fortune on the list you posted.

congrats on the house...
