Saw a new copy at a local Blockbuster (new, greatest hits version) for either $15 or $20. Saw ebgames wants $20 for a pre-played version and gamestop.com wants $38! How rare is this game? Does it hold up well after all these years?

no, if u have a non gh version in good shape you might be able to get 30-40 for it but 20 is the going price for gh or incomplete copies, but the game is still amazing, pick it up if youve never played it

It's not that rare (unless you're a looney collector who won't take a greatest hits cover in your collection) and yes, it holds up very well. I've got to hit my friend who borrowed mine with a chair and take my copy back one of these days.

this is one of the best adventure games for PS 1, well worth $20 brand new. as for rarity, I've seen a bunch of them at Costco in the last year or so, but it still goes for quite a bit used.

definitely pick it up if you like adventure games, it's probably the best of all the Castlevanias.

Best game ever made on any Playstation system, by far. I strongly recommend getting it, obviously. It's not exceptionally rare overall, but most people aren't really willing to part with their original non-GH copies. Anyway, play it through and see what Playstation could have been if more people had made 2D games for it, instead of the wasteland of crap it ended up to be.

best castlevania game there ever was. this is where I started, and I played the others afterwards, but I suppose I was spoiled by this one. GH or not, everyone ought to have it in their library. get 2 of em.

Well, for one thing the PS wasn't really a 2D powerhouse to start with, and then you had (still have, actually) SonyUSA denying publishers the ability to release most 2D games to this side of the ocean.

Its not rare, it was somewhat rare as a non gh, but its still easy to find, its just that its an older psone game that its getting hard to find because of the psone games slowly phasing out. I actually liked this game so much I got the saturn version so that I could play the extra 2 stages and 3rd character.
why is everyone saying its fairly easy to find, when im my life i have never found it?
This game is hard to find locally, but I rarely see any new psone games for sale anywhere (except TRU), including walmart now. If a store has them its a very very limited selection. I just see lots of them on ebay and have seen several posts of people finding lots of them at Sams/Costcos and Frys.

My local EB has tons too. They let customers build little forts out of the cases and have SOTN fights. They always end with someone getting hurt though, because those corners are pokey.

Good point. There are a bunch of good 2D Playstation games that have sadly remained Japan-only, including some really nice collections of older games that would have made me dust off my Playstation once in a while for something other than playing SotN. Sadly, they're doing the same thing with PS2 :x
