EB Games now taking music CD's for trade.

check with your local EB to see if they are doing this. From what I know almost all of them are TAKING them, but only a selct few test stores are selling them.

So take all your cd's and rip them to your hard drive and then go trade them in at EB. So you can get store credit/cash for more games and not really lose anything for them.

...well, this is great timing. im going through all my cd's (well over 300) and triming it. I wonder what the average $$ is

WTF? Weird. I'll check tomorrow when I go in to see if they have anything written down. If so then they're going to get a load of them from me.

I'm guessing they'll trade-in music CDs for about $2 or $3 each - about the price of a PS1 trade-in. I mean each CD is at the most $20. The sucky part is, when they resell the Pre-owned CDs, they're going to probably charge $7.99, $8.99 or even $9.99. :(

Does anyone remember when EB used to sell CDs back in the day? I used to pick lots of stuff up there, maybe 8 - 10 years ago. The guy that worked there had great tastes and got me into a lot of bands.

$2-$3 only?

I demand more money for my limited edition Prince collection dammit. Go to hell EB.

odly enough im reading this while listening to 1999. odd

Anyways, 2-3$ for something id ont use, or only listen to one song of, is a damn good deal. Im not gonna go throw my pumpkins collection away, but my godsmack cd's might get the eb treatment (2 cd's...and they both sound the fucking same...argh!)
the average trade in per cd is $4.20. They are only reselling for $5.99 each.
4.20 seems way to high, but hey if they are doing that more power to you.

Ive never been to an EB, but I cant imagine they are only going to mark something up 1.79.

my thoughts exactly. but hey that is what the register says.
is this at all ebgames?........and do they take any music cd or do they pick and choose which ones they want?
not all EB's are selling them, but as far as I know they are all taking them. You need to have the jewel case and original art. No copies or really beat up discs are being accepted. I think they are taking ALL cd's. That way they can redistribute them to other stores.

...um, PS2 here i come?

hopefully ill have time after work today to go visit...

If the $4 thing is right, its probably just to get stock in, itll probably be much less later.

wow I have TONS of crap cds. people give them to me for christmas, I guess they want to share their graat taste in music?!? Meh, if i trade in 100 cds that I never listen to, then they give $400 of store credit? wow, steel batalion here i come!

i just hope that all of you with cds don't expect them to take every one. then again, it's ebgames so maybe they won't care if they are scratched or just plain bad.

What's the update on this. In another thread they said the deal start next week. Some say it takes place right now.

And I would like some confirmation about the average of $4.50 per CD, which is pretty good. If it is only $2-$3 I won't bother.

I went to EB today and they are definately taking CDs. ACcording to the guy they are taking pretty much anything, but they wouldn't really give me an average price and looked at me like I was na asshole. I'm pretty sure I'm going to check this out and trade a few CDs tonight or tomorow so I will let you know. And I am trading in some total no name crap, so if they give me good prices, everyone will be in luck. I would appreciate anyone's experience with trading stuff in so far so I know what to expect.

I just called my EB and they said they weren't taking CD's. Maybe that guy wasn't in the loop or something.
I guess I'm the only person reading this thinking "awesome, another place to buy cheap music!" Oh well.
right along the lines of having way too many unopened games, I also have more cds than I'll ever play.

I just called in the morning the girl at the store said yes, went at 7pm, the guy said no ,not yet.The girl wasnt in working hours , but was at the store, and when he asked her, she said that yes, they were takin cds.But it seem the jerk wasnt in the mood for checking cds, so he said coming soon.Poor guy , im just gonna copy all my original cds and then go to the store with over 50cds, and I want that guy to scan them all, this time no excuses.
And by the way I live in Puerto Rico, and if the offer is available here, it should in the states, good luck , folks!

Tomorrow first thing in the morning ,will be going to the store with like 20cds, I dont listen to no more.Wait for my update around 10:30 or 11:30 AM.Till then!

I dont have an impatient girlfriend waiting for me at home, so i might go and talk to the people there..i know all of them, so ill just get as much info as possible

I called two different stores here in California and they said no such deal exists.

But hopefully they are just not in on the deal.

...was stuck at work later than expected...damnit. although im up to 15 cd's to get rid of so far. Thats at least....15 bucks...

Fountain Walk, Novi : in a jamacan accent "I dont know about nuttin like dat"

I think that means either "no" or "I dont know"

one here in south jersey's taking them. Same thing as you all have said. This ones taking them, giving credit, then shipping them off to other EB's to sell. average credit 3-4 dollars or so. mmmm new green X-box.

Let the ripping begin! ^_^

Cheers!

I don't think mine is doing it. My EB usually does NOTHING cool but if they ever do, im gonna buy a big pack of CD-Rs and burn all my cds, then take em in there and get me some new stuff to play.

Could anyone whose done this describe the experience? Is every cd worth a certain price? I find this would be hard to believe, since they would need every cd ever released on file. How's it work?

I can't wait to trade in 6 cd's for a GH.

I'm sure you realize that using your backups once you have sold the originals is illegal, and it would be appreciated if you did not advertise such intentions/practices here.

Thank you,
Not the Management

Well, I traded some in today. I asked the guys working there (the manager & asst. manager) and they said yes, they were going to start doing it soon. They said they thought it started Monday. I know the guys pretty well, so I mentioned if that's the case I'd just come back on Monday - was gonna pick something up today but it could wait. Then they asked me if I had them with me. When I told them yes, they said they could try it & see if it would take them.

I brought in my box of 49 cds. They took all but 11 of those, and those were cd singles. Out of the remaining 38 they took, I got $31.30. These were really crap cds, mind you - I had taken a TON of cds to a local place that does trade-ins, and these were their rejects. Looking at the receipt, the most they gave was $4.25, and that was for an Everclear cd. The least was .25, and that price appears several times. Every time it just says "MCD", so I'm assuming those were disks not in the system.

I'm pleased with the amount I got because the cds were worthless to me. I'm moving and frankly didn't want to move them with me. I averaged a little less than $1/ea, but that's ok. If you place any value on your cds tho, you may want to check & see what they're giving per disk before you agree. The .25/a disk for the unknowns is harsh if they're worth anything to you.

Not as good as people were saying, .25 for a cd?All my music is unknown artist ranging from rare industrial acts to death metal stuff. So problably what Ill get is about 10 to 20$ for 50cds, no big deal sorry EB.

the funny thing is that everclear doesn't sell used.

i would like to ask a couple things. first, were your cds all in good condition, or did they take ones with scratches on them too? second, would it be possible to give us just a short list of some of the artists you traded in and the prices you received (or at least believe you received) for them? third, did they offer cash or was it just store credit? if you could answer that would be pretty helpful and very cool.

Sure, here goes. All my cds were in pretty good condition. They all had jewel case/inserts, of course. Some had some minor scuffs but all were perfectly playable. AFAIK, the deal is for store credit only. Here's a rundown of some of the prices. I'm having to go from the codes on the receipt, and don't remember exactly what I traded in, but this will give you some idea:

MTV's AMP vol. 1 - $1.34
Elastica - $4.20
Faith No More (can't remember which one, I think The Real Thing) - $1.50
Gravity Kills - .67
The Cable Guy sndtrk - .50
The Cardigans - Gran Turismo - $2.02
Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow (I think...) - $4.25
Enigma - MCMXC AD - $4.20
Collective Soul (no idea which one) - .50
Toad the Wet Sprocket - In Light Syrup - .67
Toys sndtrk - $1.34
Ministry - Psalm whatever-it-is - $2.02

That's the general rundown. Most of mine came out as unknown, but again, these were mostly really crappy cds. When my wife goes through her collection I'm going to take some more, and I'll pay closer attention to what everything is worth then.

Before i goto Eb tomorrow, I will offer this up to anyone who wants it pretty cheap.

I have a few metallica albums, might be all they made im unsure? (that would be : Kill em'all, master of puppets, ride the lightning, load, reload, garage inc, The Black metallica album, and justice for all, st anger, and the singles of the unforgiven II, hero of the day, and king nothing)

They are all in good condition, complete and play perfect. I just want to get rid of them, theres nothing wrong with them, its just the fact that the metallica time in my life has passed me by.

So if anyone of you want them, just PM me an offer, you can offer me games and the like if you want. I have paypal too if your intrested, just PM if you have any intrest at all and we can work something out.

None of the EB's by me will buy them :(

They say the EB's in the Twin Cities (minneapolis/st. paul) area do not buy them.
I have a few I want to sell, but looks like I won't be able to....
