I don't even own a PS3 and I want to play this game. Hopefully Sony will release the slim before this games comes out.

The only problem I saw was the controls didn't seem that great at this time, but there is still a long time before it's released, and it could of been that the guy playing the game was really bad.
This looks awesome!

So is this PSN or disc based?
Full PS3 game.

Some details from the press release:
 • Customized Karting Experience – Whether the player is a race car driver, a newcomer to videogames or an aspiring game developer, they can show their talents off in ModNation Racers. The power of creation is in the player’s hands.
 • Accessible Creation Tools – ModNation Racers includes easy creation tools in the Track Studio, Character Studio and Kart Studio that allow the player to design something comprehensive and fun in a matter of minutes. Players can invest minimal time and enjoy basic creating, or they can invest more time and make sure every lake, mountain, banked turn and power-up is placed perfectly.
 • Classic Kart Racing Action – ModNation Racers delivers exceptional kart handling and physics technology on PS3 that makes for fast and fun racing. Players can drift their karts around corners, boost for more speed, attack opponents with weapons and interact with the world around them.

 • Trophy Support – ModNation Karting supports a host of fun and challenging trophies to collect along the way.

I think this looks awesome!

Mario Kart with customizable characters, carts, and tracks = yes please! The creation tools they demo'd in the sony conference looked so satisfying yet so simple! Hopefully they allow for things like jumps, loops, crazy courses etc.

fuck yeah. This is my number one E3 title and it came the fuck out of nowhere. Awesome. This really made my day.

I hope this is available as a digital download, seems like something I'd like to pop into every once and a while, rather then bring out the disk everytime.

I was pretty impressed but I'm not really sold.. if there is weapon customization as well, then I'd be really sold.

I also wonder how far we can go with tracks, I'd love to see some kind of Rainbow road remake in HD.

I think this was game of show - out of nowhere and looks very intuitive. I'd rather they copy/paste Mario kart controls instead of some 'physics' based system, but obviously it's way too early to judge.

When the demonstration started, I just shrugged it off, like "oh boy, a kart racer", but by the end I was pretty excited.

Definitely looking forward to this one.

I am really excited about this one. I just could not get into little big planet, but i love this idea. The controls look rather easy to pickup and play, and the character/kart creation looks killer.

This will be a day one preorder for sure. Hell, I'll even pay for a collector's edition of this one.

I'm sold, this game is awesome. The gameplay look good which is most important, but what's really nice is that there was a lot of detail in that track and it looked good graphically. I really want to see a Koopa Beach esque track, and I thought we were going to have one when he raised the water up. I wanted to see how the cars interact w/ the water. Oh well, we'll have to wait to see that.

This game was one of my favorites from the Sony Press Conference. It'll be really interesting to see what kind of tracks people will come up with. I'm sure a lot of real race courses will be copied too by fans.

I really want the option to make figure 8 tracks...i can't really remember the last time i played a racing game with a true figure 8 track, not counting the destruction derby games

This was probably my favorite looking game next to the Nintendo games that were newly announced. I have never been excited for a kart game aside from Mario's and then when they come out and I play them, my apathy towards them has always been justified. But this looks like it could give Mario a run for his money.

I am hoping that you will be able to create vertical surfaces, i would love to make some slot car inspired tracks...

frankly this game has more more excited than anything. I'm normally not a kart racing game fan, but i love trackmania. I love custom designing ungodly complex hairpins and seeing just what i can throw at a racer. Now i get to combine that with a mighty mugg style driver and custom karts? hells yea!

Agreed. The release is so damn far off though...

This. I'm interested for now, but it won't be long before I forget about this one.

It looks great though thus far.
fuck yeah. This is my number one E3 title and it came the fuck out of nowhere. Awesome. This really made my day.
I concur. I cannot wait to play this game. Hopefully it's an EARLY 2010 release. Like after I've played 300+ hours of COD:MW2 over the holidays, it would be nice to change it up with this game.

edit...wow, I just realized I said the same shit like a month ago. older thread, heh.

I love the sexy vinyl style on this. Anyone ever see Dunnies? That's what the graphic style reminds me of :D So cool!

Not to mention the ease of customization . . . just wow!

This game looks so awesome just like little big planet ;) anyone knows if is blu ray disk or dl

*edit*
I see is going to be disk base.
This game will be awesome if its $20 or less and downloadable.
My guess is the game will be a full $60 MSRP like LBP with additional DLC down the road. The game should sell reasonably well despite the full-on price tag and potentially justified depending on the online features/play-modes available at launch.

DO you think the DLC would be free?

I REALLY think a $20 digital release would win over a lot of users. Look at Valves mega sales, they make more money with 75% off than they do 25 and 50% off. I know the games aren't the same, but the idea is and I would gladly fork over $20 for this digitally.

+1 for Trackmania being awesome.

I'm certainly inclined to agree with you from a gamer stand-point. The more people who play, the more enjoyable the online experience is with a larger community.

But if Nintendo can charge $50 for their Mario Kart Wii and it doesn't have any kind of course creation/sharing, then you can be Sony will charge at least $50. 'Course, people are willing to pay a premium to play with classic Nintendo characters.

There will likely be a few free costumes for holidays and what not, like LBP. But everything else cosmetic and additional will likely cost some money.

I wouldn't mind a $39.99 retail disk release then...I don't think I'd pay $60 on day 1, but $40, I most likely would. $20 is a big hellz yeah.

I never expected PSN being free would result in exclusives. But jolly-good, Sony!

From Destructoid.com

The PlayStation Network is free. Xbox Live demands money in order to do the same things that PSN does. For at least one up-and-coming developer, the difference is crucial. ModNation Racers is generating a lot of excitement lately, and it's PS3-exclusive because United Front Games wants it on a system where everybody is allowed to play it.

"As we were coming up with what we were doing and what we wanted to create, we spoke to some different publishers and immediately there was this sort of synergy between us and Sony," says producer Dan Sochan. "And in terms of the hardware, the power of the PS3 and the PSN network being free -- that we could make sure that everyone who buys a copy of the game is able to get online for free and then share all this content -- were really important for us.

"For us it's really a lot about the community feel and we feel that the PSN has a very strong community at present."

So, there's at least one developer out there that believes the PlayStation Network is superior to Xbox Live. In many ways, it actually is. If only Sony itself would wake up, realize the same thing, and give PSN the functionality it needs to compete, then Xbox Live would look like a total scam in comparison.

I mean, more so than it does already.
Could that article have just confirmed the game will be on PSN, rather than retail? Potentially meaning $20-30 game?
I don't think that's what they are implying. Since the game has such a huge amount of focus on creating and sharing levels just like in LBP, the developer didn't like that idea that some people wouldn't be able to share, download, or play levels together on Xbox Live since not everyone is Gold.

I can confirm it. I picked up my copy of LittleBigPlanet GOTY Edition today, and it does have a voucher for the Modnation Racers beta in it. :D

I'll try to get some pics up when I can.

So if I just got LBP GOTY edition.. and it has a beta inside.. is the beta still open, or did I miss the window possibly?

Not sure I want to open LBP yet, and if I cant get in on the BETA then I am going to wait for sure.
