Mitsuharu Misawa is widely considered one of the greatest wrestlers ever in Japan and easily one of the most popular. His hard-hitting matches are legendary among fans. Sadly, on June 13, 2009 his career and life were cut short due to injuries received in the ring that led to his death. His legacy was cemented long before his passing but he will be sorely missed all the same.

Mitsuharu Misawa (三沢 光晴, Misawa Mitsuharu?, June 18, 1962 - June 13, 2009) was a Japanese professional wrestler. He made his professional debut on August 21, 1981 for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). From 1984 until 1990, Misawa wrestled as the second generation Tiger Mask, as All Japan Pro Wrestling had purchased the rights of the Tiger Mask gimmick from New Japan Pro Wrestling. Following the death of AJPW head booker Giant Baba in 1999, Misawa inherited the position of AJPW president. After being removed as president by a board of executives, Misawa left AJPW in May 2000 to form Pro Wrestling Noah. In 2006, Misawa founded and served as the chairman of the Global Professional Wrestling Alliance (GPWA).
Considered one of the best wrestlers in professional wrestling history, Misawa was a five-time AJPW Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion, three-time GHC Heavyweight Champion and was named Wrestler of the Year by Wrestling Observer Newsletter on three occasions.[1][2] Misawa's popularity in Japan rivaled that of Hulk Hogan and The Rock in the United States.

I was thinking a while back...obviously no one is going to be able to duplicate Savage's act at this point, but I was trying to come up with who, in current wrestling, is closest to him in "spirit" or whatever. There really isn't anyone. Don't say Jay Lethal. Edge is the closest I can come up with and he's not that close. Slightly smaller guy who is capable of very good matches, can come off like a nut without overdoing it, and can pull of a decent crazy promo.
Nailed it in one, though I think he's "not that close" because of today's "WWE style" programming. He's fully capable of reaching the level of Randy Savage.

I believe Eddie Guerrero could have pulled it off as well, though the "cocky heel" seemed to go over with the crowd. A little less smiling and a little more delusional, and he would have done just fine.

An interesting note from a house show this weekend is that Chris Jericho defended his Intercontinental title against Rey Mysterio, but Jericho came to the ring holding a title belt that was clearly not the IC belt. Several fans at ringside could tell that he was carrying the Women's Title with black electrical tape over the "Women's Championship" part of the belt. He held it in his hand rather than wear it and did his best to hold the title face close to body so that no one would see. It appeared as if Jericho and the ref joked about it when he handed the belt over. The ref also did not hold the belt up to the crowd prior to the match (as they did with the ECW and World titles later that night). The word is that Jericho accidentally left the belt at his hotel room. There was no heat on Jericho.
He should've cut a promo about it.

"I know this isn't the actual Intercontinental Title, but I figured I wouldn't need the real thing to deal with a charlatan such as Rey Mysterio."

Thanks for posting those matches. I've never seen any of his.

Vince announcing Flair as GM makes the most sense, especially since they're in Charlotte, but he just got punted.

I won't be watching live, as usual. The early start means I get to wait and avoid even more commercials!

Is the Mysterio/Jericho match supposed to convey a "quality" wrestling match in today's WWE?

It was like the whole thing was booked as Rob Van Dam vs Rob Van Dam. There was not a single fucking thing in the match that was not a spot. Spot, setup, spot, setup, spot, setup. And, like an RVD match, the setups were contrived and unbelievable - and, most importantly, completely empty and meaningless to the match.

Compare that 10-minute match to one from 10 years ago. There was a decent story in the match, and one that made sense - but there was zero, zero, zero substance to the wrestling in the match.

McMahon "sold" Raw? There's "no chance in hell" that this person would own Raw?

I'm interested storyline wise. I'm hoping for Ted DiBiase, I'm really hoping it's not Ric Flair.. I don't think it'll be Shane or Stephanie.. or Linda.. I hope it's someone completely left field

I'm gonna go out on a huge limb and guess it's Stone Cold.

That's what I was thinking, from the "no chance in hell" line.

See, this is exactly why WWE is lame now.

He's selling Monday Night Raw? That doesn't even make sense.

But I'm calling Heyman buying it....until next week when Vince finds out that the check bounced

I'm gonna be pissed if it's Flair or Shane. Flair had some kind of roll like that when he came in after WCW folded. Shane was the "owner" of WCW.

That would be awesome.

pimpster - I think that's just what they do for fatal 4 way matches.
What's up with WWE doing the TNA style intros before championship matches now?
It's for those that can't read the names off of the huge ass titan tron videos.

I just... what? So, we job out Orton to a knowingly injured Batista, only to give him the belt right back? I swear to god they're just dartboard booking now.

Oh, and WWE? Big Show needs to be a monster... fucking book him that way.

Hey, apparently Smackdown is running a house show here in August. This is the first time I've been really glad that we aren't an A-show market.
why would stone cold be awesome?

got a hankerin' for reruns?
