Great list!

Did you consider adding Ring of Red?

I can understand why you might have left it off, but I figure if Fallout BOS is up there....

fallout is alot like baldurs gate, ring of red is mech strategy.
but some of the games may not belong there, as i said, i havent played every one of those games.

EDIT: also i plan on putting the subgenre's next to the titles

EX: Final Fantasy 8 (Menu Based)

the catagories of RPGs ive come up with are:
2D Action
3D Action
Strategy
Menu Based

is ring of red similar to front mission 4? (i haven't played my front mission 4 yet  )

excellent idea :)

I don't know if I would call RPG Maker a RPG. And what about the Dynasty Warrior games? Also you misspelled Final Fantasy Chronicles.

ring of red (to me) plays nothing like an rpg, its more of a war game than a rpg.

i included RPG maker because you can download RPGs for them off the web..and ill fix the spelling

There's that new budget game Eternal Eyes, I see it at electronics chains for like 7$

Breath of Fire IV is so good, I suggest trying to order it at Amazon.com, or going to Ebay.

Are we including games with RPG elements into the list as well, or is this strictly just for games classified as RPGs? I was thinking maybe we could also throw Bouncer onto the list.

strictly RPG's, which is why i should kick dragon valor ^^

i updated the list and started working on the sub-genres

See to me Baulders gate and the like arent' RPGs and if they are they why isn't Dynasty Warriors an RPG?

As far as Ring of Red I was just curious if you'd considered it or not, now that I've seen that you have I'm happy.

i could do this for gamecube, when we finally get this list to something everyone is happy with, but i dont know enough about xbox rpg's to make a list for it.
What about N64, Dreamcast, and Saturn RPGs?
again i prefer to go 1 system at a time, but if anyone wants to start them off, i say go for it, cube, 64, saturn, and dreamcast should all be very easy systems to do...

snes, genesis, and nes will be tough
Shadow of Destiny??

Plus which are the best non-turn based of those on the list.
shadow of destiny is an adventure game where you go back in "time" and solve your own murder.

the best ps2 rpgs imo are final fantasy x, arc the lad, tsugnai (sp) and suikoden 4
It's kind of sad how many of these I actually have (too many!)...
As a fan of just about all RPGs its sad to see how many of those I don't have.

Thanks for compiling the list punq, at least now I have something to drool over until I get back on stable financial ground :D

The list is great. I just got my PS2 recently and only have two from the list (Xenosaga & Suikoden III). Is there any other RPG that you guys highly recommend? I am thinking about getting Shadow Hearts & Xenosaga II. I am about 3 hours into Xenosaga 1

Not to change the subject, but I have an extra BOF4 if anyone wants it..

How fitting that my 500th post would be about one of my favorite games of all time... am I the only one who considers Symphony of the Night an RPG?
And it was necessary to dig up a post from 2005 to tell us this?
To be honest...I didn't realize the OP was from 2005. Only after I posted I realized that I resurrected the dead. BTW, what's wrong with using old posts? Not every topic needs a new thread.

I googled for a PS2 RPG list in order to check if there is a more informative one than mine out there. (there isn't) ...and this link came up.

In any case, I gave the heads up, and I'm sure some will appreciate it.
Thanks for posting a link to that list. That's the best and most thorough list of PS2 RPG's I've seen.
Thanks. The list is so good because of knowledgeable Digital Press members who are in love with details. It got corrected a lot, and new information is always added.

Wow, I never realized just how many RPG's there were on the PS2. It would be interesting to know how many of those are OOP or rare.
Wow, I never realized just how many RPG's there were on the PS2. It would be interesting to know how many of those are OOP or rare.
None of them are 'rare.' They are all easily available. However, some of them are high in demand and therefore pretty pricey in the meantime.

SMT Digital Devil Saga in the collector's box (sealed) goes for $120 to $150 on ebay, I'm glad that I got it for ten dollars at a TRUS sale three years ago. The dot hack deluxe set is cheaper (around $80) but imo this one might be one day the most in demand.

BTW, there are more on the way. These titles are scheduled for this month and next month.

Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis. Gust, NIS America, 3/31/08.
Baroque.* Sting, Atlus, 4/8/08.
Persona 3 Fes.* Atlus, Atlus, 4/22/08.
Chaos Wars.* Idea Factory, 0-3 Entertainment, 4/24/08.

...but I guess this is the last wave of RPGs for the PS2, after that it might be pretty much over.

you know what's awesome about buying a ps3? buying all the ps2 rpg's for 5-20 bucks each now. I think I amassed 15 rpg's for less than 200 bucks. If I wanted to re-sell them I'd probably make 100 bucks on them, and that's after I played them all. videogame economics is weird sometimes.

LOL! I didnt buy any PS2 games until I got my 60Gb PS3. I even had a PS2 fat that I never played on. Now after getting a PS3 I bought about 30 games including 4-5 PS3 games. Not like I will have time to get to any of them. My COD4 is still sealed since xmas.
