How is this possible? :) Did you get in line multiple times? I thought it was only 1 item per coupon.
The only problem is that the Wed-Thur 40% off coupon will wipe out a lot of good stuff from each store.
Pretty much this.

cause there was only 2 good things in our store... one i got 30% off other i paid full price : )

How exactly do you sign up for their newsletter that sends these coupons? EDIT: Nvm, figured it out. Thanks for the heads-up, op!

My Half Priced Books actually has Futurama for PS2 used for $13.00. I considered picking it up a few nights ago but checked on eBay and its value is either below that price or way above it, so i don't know if there's any reason to pick it up. Who knows, with this coupon I might go get it.

Well, talk about "wiping out" all 2 things. :)

My HalfPriced Books seems to restock pretty regularly. I also don't think many people hit mine up for games and especially Blu ray movies. I love these coupon weeks! Scored some good Blu's this week:
Role Models -30%= $14
Casino Royale -40%= $9
The Wrestler -50%= $10

fort wayne

saw

animal crossing for the wii for 12.49 after coupon

Did not grab any of the 8 buck psp games or 15 buck ds games

Even at 4 and 7.50 the games were not worth it

Yes, they do. But in my experience Half Price is a lot like a thrift store. The stock changes often and if you pass on something good, it will be gone when you return two days later.

yea i passed on Smackdown 2009 for the ps2 for 9 tuesday.. it was gone weds : (

WOOOTTTTT!!!!! What a haul today!

I went with my sister and snagged Paul BLart Mall Cop on Blu-ray for $4 with the 50% off coupon.

Then I got Guitar Hero Hits for the Xbox 360 for $15 with the 50% off coupon.

HPB didn't really have what I was looking for in terms of games or movies (someone must have snagged the $120 complete copy of PS1 Valkyrie Profile on the 40% day or something), so I just bought a couple of old and uncommon strategy guides and a book. The cashier was cool and let me use all five of the coupons that I printed up, so I pretty much got two guides for free and my book for half off. Not a bad day.

wow, went to the store near me a couple times the past several days and found quite a nice haul!

Halo Wars for $18-40% off
Socom Confrontation for $12-40% off
Gothica Universe for $5-50% off
The Witcher EE for $10 - 50% off
LOTR BFME2 for $8
Space Siege for $3
Crimson Skies for $2
Panzer Dragoon Orta for $3
Some Street Fighter Manga for $3

Overall happy with what I found, didn't see any good Blu Rays though :p
Gothica Universe for $5-50% off
Me too!! I thought about picking up Fry Cry 2 and/ or GTA4, but the PC DRM really turned me off.
Scored a SEALED copy of Final Fantasy VII for the PC for $20. Nice.
Wow! Seeing a copy on the shelves in unheard of, but fine one that is sealed is... undescribable!

Thanks OP! Didn't find anything amazing, but got a decent item 50% off.

I was looking at some Limited Edition DVD Sets, and another customer saw me and told me where I could find more. I followed her, and she showed me a big pile of boxes sitting on the floor next to the counter, which were full of items priced but not yet placed on the shelves. Apparently she (and other people) are in my store constantly and look through items, sometimes before they even get placed on the shelves. She said she goes to the store almost every day and gets everything good. I thought, "why are you telling me this?"

I suppose in one sense it's only fair that the people who are really hardcore and spend the extra time and energy are the ones who get all the good stuff, but it is somewhat disheartening when I see people like that...

What was really disheartening to me was when I took two Haruki Murakami books up to the register once and had the cashier tell me "Wow, I'm surprised you found these on the shelf. Usually the employees take all of this guy's books before they ever make it out onto the floor."

Customers rifling through the unshelved/unpriced merchandise was a huge no-no at our store. It's also very against company policy, IIRC.

And anyone who doesn't realize that employees get first crack at the best deals in any area of retail, especially when it comes to used stuff, is a bit naive.

Don't get me wrong, I knew employees did that, but to have it shoved in my face like that is something else. A big selling point on their commercials around here is finding those hidden gems amongst the shelves, and here I had an employee telling me to my face that it's actually not usually worth the effort because even when something high demand makes it into the store the employees take it first.

I do, in fact, find fewer "steals" at that store than at others, though they're much larger. I don't know if the employees at that store just care less about not leaving anything for the customers or if it's just a function of them being so big (and thus having more employees with wider interests). At other stores (for instance, when I found FF7 yesterday, or when I once found4 pristine condition Dresden Files novels), I often have the person checking me out say something like "man, I knew that wouldn't last long, I wanted to buy it myself!" That's only happened once for me at that store in the almost 4 years I've been going to it (when I found the three core rulebooks for D&D 4th edition a week after they were released).

Blablabla dude, suck it up, you still got a good deal that most people would gladly pay a full retail price for. You're just jealous that they got the deal and not you, greedy bastard.

Fair enough. I always tried to be a bit more discreet than the person in your story. And hey, I'm on the other side of the counter now, so I feel your pain. :)

I thought you were just a whiner with your original post . . . but this could be a problem.

Stores like Half Price (and other used dealers) should curb the employees to some extent.

If a Half Price had a "gang" of employees who sold online on the side and cooperated with each other, this would be unhealthy for the store in general. Not only would they reduce the finds in the store (which would reduce traffic) but they might also underprice the merchandise for each other. The store would lose out on profitable transactions.

If your scenario happened, at least the reselling on the side part, said employees would be fired, if they were caught. Company rules are very explicit about not buying with an employee discount to resell. Most employees enjoy working there enough to not risk it.

Jealous that who got what deal?

And what did I say that makes me sound like a greedy bastard? I'm not even complaining about the employees getting a shot at stuff before me, I'm just saying it's disheartening when they throw it in your face like that.

If you can't see why it would annoy someone that an employee at a given store is openly admitting to taking all the good stuff before it gets on the floor, when a MAJOR advertising point for that store is finding good stuff cheap, then I don't know what else to say. I'm not whining, I'm just relating a story; In practice I just moved along with my life and I don't visit that store nearly as often as I visit the other ones in my area.
