Used @ EBGames?

gamefreak

CAGiversary!
Looking to buy some of the older PSX games I missed out on at EB with the 25% off deal and was wondering what the overall quality of their used CDs are. Thanks a bunch!

Hmmm... on that note, anyone know where I can pick up any of these for good prices not from EB?

Xenogears
Final Fantasy 7
CT/FF4
FF5/6
SOTN

Don't care about GH and all that stuff.

check your local Best Buy and KB Toys, as well as GameStop and EB Games. at the latter two, be sure to specify you want new PS 1 games, not used ones. lots of them have new copies behind the counter, though they cost a bit more.

good luck!

I never order used games from their online store, as the way they store their discs almost ensures they'll get scratched. those damn paper sleeves are evil. paper sleeves can scratch cds as easily as they can records :?

then again, I just picked up the following games at a local EB. all had been stored behind the counter, but the discs are completely scratch-free, boxes/instructions in perfect shape:

Gitaroo Man (PS 2 - "new", last copy) $20
Robot Alchemic Drive (R A D) (PS 2 - "new", last copy) $23
Culdcept (PS 2 - Pre-owned, perfect condition) $20

moral of the story: go to the B&M store for used cd-style games ;)

The only problem is that online they have the 25% off. Does EB do in-store pickup?

Also the prices are really high everywhere else, espically gamestop where SOTN costs as much as those three together with 25% off...

According to another thread, EB does do instore pickup now. Although, none of the EB B&M store employees seem to know about it yet.

I just called the one near me and they said they do and they had "just started taking them". Try calling them (again).

I was planning on getting a pre-played Freedom Fighters from EBGames for GC. Has anyone ever not gotten the manual or original casing if its been guaranteed for a Gamecube game? I'd rather pay the extra couple of dollars so I don't get stuck with a jewel case. What about that white precautions booklet? I know that when I buy a game, I want to know if it will kill me. J/k. Thanks for the info.

I ordered a bunch of used GC games and they all came with cases.

The only time I ever got a game without a case was a GBC game.

Yeah, I have had very mixed outcomes with EBgames.com used. I've ordered Zelda: Wind Waker and Metroid Prime from there and although the Zelda case had a little dent, everything else was in great shape (both had the Nintendo Power subscription offer inside, and the Metroid instruction booklet still had a crease in the middle.) About two weeks ago though I ordered Viewtiful Joe there and it came with everything but the disc had a deep scratch in it and the game wouldn't load (Disc Read Error). But now with the new system, I was able to return it in my local store, but they didn't have copies so I just took store credit for now. So, I guess its a YMMV.

i've ordered one used game from ebgames.com and it had all art and instructions, and was in pretty good condition.

i've also ordered from gamestop (the buy 1 preowned get 1 free deal), and viewtiful joe was complete and in pretty good condition, but mario party was disc only. i haven't opened the package, since i'm hoping i may be able to exchange it in the future for one that is complete. i'm not holding my breath, though.

either way, i say give ebgames a try. if not, you should be able to get most of the games you listed (or maybe all?) at best buy for $15 with the gamer gift card.

with the new in-store pick-up does that include exchanges too, so in the rare occurance that you get a game that's not up to snuff from the online store can you just exchange it at a local one without the hassle of shipping it back?

I've ordered 3 used games from them before. 2 of them were in great condition and 1 had a rip down the case's spine, but I'm not too picky about that. But all the EB horror stories make me feel nervous about ordering from them again. but prince of persia for $26.25 (after AFF25) just sounds too good to pass up.

Yeah, has nothing to do with instore pickup though, thats only for preorders. But wit hteh tax now and everything you are able to exchange your defective copy in a B&M store at no charge (mine didn't have Viewtiful Joe though, so I just took store credit. Store manager had a fun time trying to figure out how I got it for 18.XX shipped when the website says its $26 used. :D )

I've ordered 8 or so used Xbox games from ebgames.com and haven't had any problems. A few of the cases have been banged up, but those can be swapped out and really don't bother me too much.

I've never had problems with the used games there. But when you order online, don't expect the original case and instructions. This is not a big deal to me, but it is for some.

Usually they tell you under the price if it includes oriiginal packaging and instructions or not. Just about all of the older preowned games say "game may not include original package & instructions".

My ebgames.com used experience has been excellent. Ordered about 20 games for various consoles and all but one have worked flawlessly. The one that didn't was replaced quickly and without question.

BTWIf you're looking for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, be sure to check out your local Costco. They have had the GH version new for around $15.

Yep, just like papi said above if your game indicates it comes with the original case and instructions, then you can expect to get the original case and instructions. I haven't had a problem with that yet.

gamestop.com on the other hand doesn't make any claims one way or the other. (Which is a big reason I haven't ordered any used games from there, I would hate to just get the disc in a generic sleeve.)

EB is now officially the best online store for videogames. Sure people have had compliants in the past with bad orders, but exchanges at the store level coupled with AFF25 and the fact that they tell you if you're going to get a case or manual or not is pretty great. I can't understand why anyone would prefer gamestop, which is equally poor with conditions and have worse prices and coupons, and say you "may" get a case or manual.

Maybe I'm a bit biased because I live in OR without sales tax, and the people at my local EBX are a lot nicer than the employees at babbages, who are mostly snobbish and kinda scare me.

btw, those who complain about EBgames' salestax, don't you have to pay salestax on everything in those states anyway?

For local stores, yes, but many online retailers do not charge sales tax unless they have a physical presence in the state. Ebgames.com had always maintained that they were a different company, separate from EBGames stores, and therefore only charged tax in states in which they had corporate offices and/or fulfillment centers, similar to the practices of Buy.com and Amazon.com. Lack of sales tax is/was one of the main benefits of web shopping, especially when shipping is also free. Paying shipping and tax means that online prices have to be much lower than in store prices to make it worth our while (this does not apply as much to items with low availability). You may not have sales tax in your state, but here it is 9.25%. So, a $10 game is almost $11, a $30 game is almost $33. It adds up.

Lack of sales tax was nice while it lasted.

yeah, i can understand that. but even with $2 shipping plus 10% tax it'll still be cheaper overall with the 25% off. but the in-store exchanges and pickups really seal the deal if you'd have to pay sales tax instore anyhow.
