Newegg - 15% off HDDs (3 days only) + 10% Bing cashback - Good for PS3 HDD upgrade

I searched around for a thread similar to this, but I couldn't find one, so forgive me if this has been mentioned somewhere.

This isn't exactly a video game deal, per say, but it's a great time to upgrade your PS3 HDD, if you've been thinking about doing so. Right now, newegg has a three-day promo code for 15% off all hard drives, which includes internal, notebook internal (for PS3), and external. The coupon code is hddsale15. Here's a link to the sale page. The maximum discount is $10, but it's still a good savings.

Also, newegg's Bing cashback is currently at 10%. Go to bing.com, and search for "newegg." You should see the ad at the top of the page for the 10%. NOTE: If you're using Firefox with AdBlock Plus enabled, you have to disable it on bing.com; otherwise, the sponsored link for the 10% cashback will not show up. I'm not sure how long this special cashback is going to last--I'm imagining not long, as it started up again yesterday--so today's a good time to jump on an HDD. The cashback comes off the price before applying the promo code. I bought a Samsung Spinpoint for my laptop, regularly priced $49.99, for around $37 after all discounts. When all's said and done, you'll be saving possibly 25%.

Again, apologies if everyone's aware of this already. I'm usually behind everyone when it comes to finding deals, so I hope this post is helpful.

UPDATE: Looks like, for now, the 10% Bing cashback is over.

Well, if you clicked the link, you'd know the answer is "yes".

I got this one a few months back, works fine on my 60 GB PS3. You can go with 7200 rpm HDD, but temps may be an issue.

Yeah I should have done that earlier, didn't really see any 1TB external HDDs that seemed relaible. Best I can find is this, unless someone unless can find a better deal. I intend to back up my PS3 since I don't an HDD larger than 500 GB, should help me store a lot of anime.

I bought this one a couple days ago: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822136197

Great price, good amount of space (320gb), and it has free shipping. You'll get $6.50 cash back and $9.75 off with the coupon code. So it'll go from $65 to around $48. I wish I had waited for this promo code, but no way you can tell, really. I wonder if they'd retroactively apply it to my order from a couple days ago. Doubt it, but it might be worth a try.

Is the newegg cashback still 10%? I seem to be only able to find 6%.

I just bought this one for my 40 gig ps3. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822145227
there's a $10 rebate on top of the bing cashback and the newegg discount. in the end, it will be about $36 for a 320 gig drive. reviews on newegg were mostly positive for ps3 owners.

yes, externals count

I read somewhere that for the PS3, 5400 rpm vs. 7200 isn't going to make a huge difference. I believe Sony ships PS3s with 5400 rpm drives, so the games that use the HDD are likely designed with those in mind. Of course, that also isn't the sole factor when it comes to performance.

I don't use my PS3 much but I threw a 5400 in there and it works just fine. I wouldn't consider 7200 unless someone posts here that it actually made a noticeable difference.

I hate how Newegg just did this today. On tuesday I bought a 1 TB internal HD for my pc for $94.99 with this deal you just posted it could of brought down the price close to $80. Oh well now I might consider upgrading my PS3 HD.

How did you get it to work? Is it after you place your order or before?

From the cashback page on Bing, it's only showing Newegg cashback as 6%. I don't see anything for 10%.

Use the bing search option and type in newegg. It shows 10% but I can't get it to work.

Love the fantom drives. i have the 1tb green drive. Works great... now I need a 300-500 small package for work backup at the office.

On the hitach rebate it reads:

Offer cannot be combined with any other offer, promotion or discount and is limited to FIVE per product

so I am thinking they have an out if they do not want to honor the rebate.

strange, I just bought the 320gb Hitachi and started the process by going to Bing.com homepage, search for "newegg", then click on link and followed through with purchase and I see $6 in my bing account from this purchase. I don't know why everyone is having this problem now, but as of 15 minutes ago, I got 10% back on the drive.

And hoping that the MIR doesn't screw me over (many reviews saying the MIR takes forever, if it ever comes back), I will effectively be rocking a 320gb (269gb users report after formatting) hd in my PS3 that only cost $36!
:dunce: *~Don't argue with dumb people, they only bring you down to their level of logic and beat you senseless with their expertise~* :dunce:

(referring to BB) ...I feel like I'm robbing them blind. There is NO WAY they're making any money off of me.

(269gb users report after formatting)

Hopefully they made a typo in their reports. 269GB from a 320GB drive seems a little low. 296 sounds more like it should be. I guess they may be reporting free space after the upgrade/reinstall of their games.

Saying you're really good at Borderlands is the equivalent to saying you suck at videogames.

That puts a genuine closed parenthesis at the end of my colon. :)

For those of you who can't see the 10% Bing cashback:

Don't go through the Bing store search to find newegg; that'll only give you 6%. You have to go to bing.com and type "newegg" in the search bar. The ad at the top with say "Get 10% cashback!" If you're on Firefox with Adblock Plus, make sure to disable it on bing.com; the ad won't show if it's enabled. Follow that link and stay in that tab/window to make your purchase to get the 10%. I took a screenshot to clarify:

http://img.photobuck.../bingnewegg.jpg

The sponsored link still says 10%, but if people are only getting 6%, even when following that link, I'm assuming they're out of funds, as they did say it lasts until they run out of funds on their twitter.

No problem. Thank you for updating the OP in bold with the note about ABP.

I shot Bing cashback CS an email about it and see if they'll fix it. Worst case, costs me nothing extra, best case, I get more cashback.
