Does anyone have any experience setting up a PS2 to work with a VGA connection?

Have you used any equipment that you would recommend?

I'm trying to hook up my PS2 to my computer monitor since I don't have a TV anymore.

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any first hand experience setting up PS2 with VGA but it should be simple as getting a component to VGA cable. And then setting the video output setting on your PS2 to RGB.

After doing some research, I think this is the way to go. Thanks for the response.

You'll need a VGA box. You can find them at New Egg, Deal Extreme, Amazon, and other stores that sell HK import electronics. Sometimes they are on Amazon or Target online. There are a ton on Ebay, but I recommend you stick with New Egg or Deal Extreme so you can make sure u know what you are getting with precise specs. Why? Well u need to make sure your VGA box will match to your native monitor resolution. If your VGA box doesn't support your native resolution, it either will not work, or just look like crap. New Egg will give you precise specs on what the VGA boxes can do, and you'll get reviews too so you will know which brands to avoid.

VGA boxes work much better with old school CRTs then they do with LCDs. A CRT always gives a crisper image at multiple resolutions, while an LCD only looks good at it's native resolution. If LCD is your only option, that's fine, just really make sure your resolution matches as I mentioned above or things look really fuzzy.

There are premium VGA boxes available, but they might not always work with all your games as some of them only support high end resolutions that all your games may not be compatible with. Daphatty was always extremely knowledgeable about what worked best if money was no object--so search the older threads around here--he really knows advanced AV, set-ups so take his word for gospel.

With an extra VGA cable, your VGA box can also act as a computer/game switch box--u can switch between your console and your computer. Also, try a variety of different quality VGA cables. After buying a high-end Belkin cable, I found a piece of shit spare cable a friend gave me years ago (that has a huge ferrum magnetic shield on one end and was mostly inflexible) worked best.

I strongly recommend wireless headphones (but not noise canceling) and a good chair (I had a Herman Miller Aeron that I salvaged from an Internet Consulting company I worked for at the end of the last century). The Sony mic can sit up along side your headphones and will push enough audio that you can hear everything (though my ear pad just disintegrated after a year of non-use--shameful, I know).
