Spyborgs $19.99 Gamestop

ZOINKS!!!!....wasn't this just released......hmmmm......don't think i'm going to try it....$10 maybe

Never heard of this game before, but after checking out some of the reviews and the video reviews on IGN then I might have to pick it up. I'm a sucker for co-op games that I can play with my 4yr old and 7 yr old.

From reading several reviews, it seems like the game's biggest flaw is its lack of ambition. Here you have a game based on cyborg super spies and the best Capcom do with that concept is a polished but fairly routine beat 'em up. But they say it has strong production values and good co-op, so as far as beat 'em ups go it sounds like a solid game.

Since I love beat 'em ups, I'm going to bite. This also appears to be a universal drop. Newegg has it for the same price (and free shipping).

BTW, the game came out on Sept. 22, so it's barely three weeks old.

My review, for another opinion.
I disagree with your review. As a co-op title, with drop in, drop out gameplay and adjustable onthefly difficulty, at $20 it offers great value.
On the easier difficulties you can blow through the game, but the difficulty does ramp up significantly. And later skills, such as the dash attack is essential for getting high combos. The final ability, where you get green energy for destroying an enemy, really changes the dynamics and the strategy.
That your partner respawns if you clear a screen means no one is sitting out for that long. And that each stage is a quick 2-10+ minutes makes it easy to pickup in short sessions.

Most co-op games are fun, and if you are looking for a game that is easy to play, isn't frustrating, but can be tailored to a more challenging taste, spyborgs does deliver.
As a single player experience, though, it won't have the same punch.

Holy crap, that was quick .

I'm slightly interested in the game with its kitschy Saturday morning cartoon feel (it kind of reminds me of the Captain America and Avengers beat-em-up for the SNES), but with all of the other games coming out (and the upcoming releases in early 2010) even with the $20 price point, this will just have to drop to $10 before I pick it up.

Wasn't this another one of Capcom's Wii test? Looks like they'll be citing this game for even worse Wii support in the future.

The game looked more interesting in it's debut with a flashier even more cartoony look and some humor. It also boasted more characters in that teaser too.

Damn that was fast. Like, Beowulf fast. Fastest drop ever, perhaps?

Either way, looks like a fun game. I may bite. Thanks OP.

Awesome game I've been waiting for to pick this game up when it first came up. One of the "few" Wii games that actually looks like it could be a 1st generation X360 game or XBL game (the gfx is that good for a Wii). I wonder if it's gonna drop anymore as GS/EB is the only one that actually has it for this price. I'm so itching to pick this up but I just picked up: Boy and his Blob, Muramasa, Cursed Mountain, Spectrobes:Origin ($20 at amazon), WSR, HOTD:eek:verkill, and Madworld. I'm still looking at NSMB:Wii, FF:CC, Redsteel 2, and probably The Conduit this Xmas season. Damn the Wii is just killing me this year!!!

Be sure to set it on the lower difficulty levels unless they're gaming prodigies- The game is no pushover.

How many retail bombs on the wii does it take for companys to stop wasting their time? This game has a all-star dev team and has the worlds largest install base and sold worse then a crappy PSN/XBLA game. I think its time to just realize that the wii is for nintendo games, party games and bathroom scales. There might be a fluke game here/there that sell decently, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Now capcom, after TvC sells worse then battle fantasia, when can we get it on PSN/XBLA? kthxbye.

lol blitz6speed way to say the Wii can't sell games. That's gonna get Dr. Mariokart in here.

Theres plenty of games that have sold decently on the Wii. But what do you consider decent? 300k? 1 million? Sonic and Secret rings sold 2+ million. A few other non-party games that sold well - RE4: Wii Editon, My Sims, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Boom Blox (contrary to what many people call a retail failure, and of course it got a sequel) hell even De Blob is selling well.

Tho I agree TvC would probably sell damn better on the 360 versus the Wii. I am going to have to order it for the Wii though sadly, hopefully Capcom doesn't double it a year later for the XBox or PS3.

Most of the ppl I know who owns a Wii are just gunshy about buying a 3rd party title at this point. Not that the system can't sell games but there are so many shovelware from the beginning even from reputable 3rd parties(cough*Ubisoft) that many ppl are cautious about buying 3rd party. Proven titles like Guitar Hero and Rock band have outsold the PS3 version of the game easily. I think Starwars:Force unleashed also was bestselling on the Wii despite it's unpolished release which then again makes ppl gunshy when 3rd parties games are brought to the sytem. About 3rd parties don't worry about them losing $$ on Wii development according to a source maybe Patcher ?(I forgot where but I'll find it). Development of AAA titles like Galaxy and the Conduit only cost anywhere bet $4-7 million to make while it cost anywhere from $14m(Too Human, Lair) to as much as $30m (Killzone2, Drake, Heavenly Sword) for the next generation twins to make a high calibur title!!! I don't even want to know how much it cost Sega when Golden Axe bombed for those systems as well as Capcom from Bionic Commando!!!
WOW I didnt even know the game came out!!
I second that sentiment. :) Capcom didn't do a thing to advertise or promote the game, so I didn't even know it was available. I'll be ordering this on payday.

fucking "beat 'em up". It's a fighting game, a scrolling fighting game. There is no such thing as a "beat 'em/shoot 'em up", unless you're a retard. Thank you, I'll see myself off my soapbox.

Was this the game that started as some kind of high concept "Saturday morning cartoon" and then morphed into an apparently generic fighter? Wish it was on the current gen systems, but I'm still kind of interested and have credit to burn at Gamestop...

For those who have played them, is this game as fun as older beat-em-up games like TMNT, Streets of Rage and Capcom's older beat-em-up arcade games?

I agreed this game is a blast to have with friends and reminds of the good old beat em ups that capcom used to make. I also play this game with my 5 year old son (on the easy level btw).

This game is only available on one of the current gen system which is the Wii. I don't think anyone makes games for the older systems anymore besides PS2 which have very sparse releases. Unless you think the Wii isn't current gen which is a debate that doesn't belong in CAG but rather in immature fanboy sites like Kotaku and Joystiq.

It's not "immature" nor a debate. Hardware generations are fairly clearly defined, and something running a PowerPC 750 and non-programmable GPU isn't a current gen system. I was stating a fact, not something I thought would be controversial

How is the game single player? I'm leaning towards picking it up as I am a fan of fighting games like this...

Game console generations are more typically defined by simple chronology, not specific technological requirements.

The Wii is current-gen.

If you want to call it that fine, but the hardware isn't current gen. (Nor is the DS nor PSP...nor technically the PS3 or 360 for that matter if you count the PC, but...)

Can't believe you guys are going on about that

Anyone have anything else to say about the GAME?

Yeah, those arguing about the Wii being current gen or not probably need to look up what generation means. Pretty sure time frame is all that matters. Power of the computing technology, not so much of a time frame. You can debate the quality of the Wii, but generationally, it is current.

The game is pretty good; it has one of the best visuals on the Wii (and almost on par visually w/some of the best XBL N' PSN games out there--only in 480P which isn't bad on a 32" 720P lcd). The single player mode is good and the upgrade system keeps things interesting. Difficulty is above avg but not frustrating. I give it a solid B overall and I am a fair grader (I gave Melee a B-, MP3 a B, and Galaxy an A).
Hardware generation has a specific meaning with computer equipment... *sigh*
Well the Wii is ahead tech wise in their input devices by using accelerometres and gyroscopes along w/ bluetooth capability IR funcionality, speakers built in rumble than their HD counterparts. Also they have functionality not mostly found in previous gen like built in web browser, Mii channels, photo ch, SD card/USB support, built in wireless b/g(even 360 doesn't have that built in), 512MB flash mem built in etc. That's why it is current gen in yhose aspect and actually next gen controlwise!

hopefully we can add a little to that # as it really is a good game!!! Another decent one is cursed mountain!!!

Yah right. Both games are awful. Just because its on the wii does not make it special. Great to see more wii bombs tho, hopefully they get smart, take this game, re-do it in HD, and actually make it fun, and put it on XBLA/PSN. I'd buy it for 10 bucks at that point.

this is my last post on this as this is sounding more like trolling than an actual game discussion. Those games are not "special" just because they're on the Wii and ppl who say so are either fanboys or trolls. Cursed Mountain which I got for $20 is probably the scariest thrill game out there because of it's atmosphere and storyline. Being happy about seeing games bomb so they would come out on a particular system is immature and fanboyish. If you want TvC so bad go pick up a Wii and buy the game as I doubt it WILL EVER COME to the HD consoles anytime SOON!!! I also don't think that Capcom and Deep Silver will re-do any of these games in HD and re-release them as they had already lost money and the cost to make games for the HD consoles is 3-4 times more than developing a game for the Wii. Case in point No more Heroes only sold 280k lifetime on the Wii and it warranted an EXCLUSIVE sequel on the Wii. While Too Human and Lair sold 500k units each and was still a big LOSER for those companies costing SK and F5 to cutback or shutdown completely!!!

DeBlob sold around 400k up to now and is a very profitable endevor for THQ and it sold only 14K units in it's 1st week of sale!!!

Deblob looked pretty cool if I'm remembering the reviews right. I picked it up last week during the sale.

Hmm. I need to reorder Game Informer (think I'll do 2 years) from Gamestop, so I guess I'll go ahead and try Spyborgs. I do have to agree with the Giant Bomb guys that the name sounds like something from the 80's, though in my case, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Pretty funny! :whistle2:D

I sort of feel like I should be saving my credit for something more meaningful I'm sure I'll like, but I have a hard time getting rid of it anyway thanks to their bad prices and open box stuff sold as new :whistle2:/

Thanks for all the feedback about this guys!

Some of that stuff's been done before, and anyway hardware generations are about...hardware. I mean we talk about CPU, GPU, and architecture generations, and consoles, being computer hardware, are part of that. Although I suppose depending on how things go the Wii may end up being seen as having "next gen" controls, or something!

(I know there seems to be a new fangled thing with "generation" equating to "release date" with consoles, but...well it's meaningless, and not how computer hardware's talked about, so...oh well :whistle2:/ )

I actually think you'll like the game if you're into the old school beat-em-ups like TMNT, DD, FINAL FIGHT etc. It's actually really enjoyable and I play it w/ my 5 y.o. son.

Cool! Yeah, I like Streets of Rage and the like, and some newer stuff too.

Managed to get that, the magazine, and some other stuff ordered using my pretend money :)
