Sorry maybe this is the wrong section to be asking this.

So I got that $40 Promotional code a little while back when amazon had the deal for buying video games with a total over $80.

I just used it for Tekken 6 cuz they had it as a Black friday deal for $33.
I figured I had $7 left so I would use it to buy Flower for $5 on the PSN from them.
But when I put it in it said the code has already been used.
So does that mean, these promotional codes can only be used once? Even if you still have some credit left on it?
I tried looking this up, but i guess promotional codes are different then Amazon gift cards? Cuz a card will save the remainder, im just a little confused.

Um, that is a good question. I was under the impression that those particular codes were valid for the full amount and not just a one time use deal. Could a more well versed Amazon shopper chime in?

Yeah when the code screen pops up it tells you that. Its a one time code so if you buy a $2 item with a $40 code you lose the other $38.

From my understanding Promotional Codes (one that you enter at checkout) is one use only, so say if it was $40 and you purchased an item for $33, then you will forfeit the $7 left over.

If you got a promotional code that is applied to your account automatically, meaning its placed on your account, and will be applied at the checkout automatically (no code has to be entered) then you keep the remaining balance after purchasing an item.

Yeah it is pretty shady that the fine print is below and kinda greyed out, but the text is "Each promotional claim code can be used only once, even if the full promotional credit is not used" and like Brian says if you only use $2, you lose the balance unlike the normal auto-applied credit (as opposed to this one time promotional code).

Normally the remainder would be placed on your account and should show up during checkout.

That's how it's been for me at least.

Nah its all used in 1 shot.

I got 20$ from buying MW2, bought tales of vesperia for 14.95. Went to see if the 5$ worked on something else and it didnt.

Only solution is to cancel the original order, and reorder making sure you spend the full amount.

Being that Tekken 6 is still on sale for 33$ I would go ahead cancel and add something to your cart.

And yeah the gift cards are different because you bought them with cash. Nobody would EVER buy giftcards if they knew theyd effectively be throwing out money.
