KOTOR is a lot like those “choose your own adventure” books. The game lets you choose from multiple choices ranging from good-to-bad which decides what happens next and in the long run.
This is a bold new idea for a video game that I enjoy. The story takes place 4,000 years before the events of the Star Wars films with a war going on between the Republic and the newly formed Sith forces. It is one of the best stories told in video game history! Some of your allies tend to be boring however (Mission Vao, T3-M4 ).

The gameplay itself is an action RPG. In the middle of battle you can pause and scroll through your fighting options (throw lightsaber, heal, shield, etc) and then once you select it you’re back to fighting. The game also features a Hutt load of side quests that can get you a variety of things like weapons and always EXP. Points. The sad thing is it has so many glitches. While playing through the 27 hours till the end it told me the disc was a DVD 3 times, could not load my game save once, and loaded a headless main character another time.
And those are just the ones that made me turn the Xbox off!

The graphics look like they are from a Dreamcast game and many of the people’s faces are the same which is all right since it is such a huge game. Also everyone in the game has spoken dialogue (Nintendo take note)! Only your character does not speak (you choose what to say). I think years from now this game will be remembered as the Adventure (Atari 2600) of the 21st century because of it’s limitations and some game will come out with the same gameplay but better graphics and no dark side glitches.

I've never seen the term "action RPG" before. I would call it a "tured-based RPG as opposed to a "real-time RPG"

I've never liked any turned-based games before, but the 'Star Wars' theme is probably what is still holding my interest for this game and not much more. Other than that, it's just slightly better than an average RPG, I woudl say.

Good review, though. Keep 'em coming !!

I wouldn't really call it an action RPG. The Kotor fighting is actually turn based in a way. Though one could play through the game and never notice it. It's an amazing game, its a shame that KOTOR II didn't live up to it's namesake.

I didn't like it, it just ddin't appel to me, I luv star wars movie tho,

I'm more a japanese RPG fan... I just think american RPG's needs alot more work...

This game is neither an action rpg (secret of mana) or a turn-based rpg (final fantasy). It is a mix of the two that, as far as I know, doesn't have a term.

Personally I don't like it too much and would prefer a pure turn-based or action rpg.
