What is Microsoft Silverlight?

hey guys, sorry if this has been asked already, but I have signed into the xbox website for the first time, and I am seeing all this stuff about SILVERLIGHT. But I cant find any real info on it. What is this? Should I install is on my computer? Thanks

A web application framework. I develop in it regularly. You'll need it to view most any MS related website nowadays.

Simply put, it's Microsoft's version of Adobe Flash.

This is kind of a weird topic for the 360 forum, but I might as well take advantage of it, lol. Does anybody else hate Silverlight with a passion? I used to subscribe to MLB.tv, which I would run to my 50" plasma. It worked great when they just used WMP, but when they switched to Silverlight, it does nothing but lag and skip, so I ended up canceling my subscription. Same thing happened when I tried to stream Netflix movies, which also uses Silverlight (although thank God, since the 360 added Netflix support, I no longer need to go that route). But I can watch things like Youtube on the TV just fine. Does anybody know why this happens?
