Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

MMMM that new thread smell!

It would be helpful to add something in the OP about the relationship between Hollywood and Movie Gallery. We mostly have MGs here and they run the same deals.

Typo on the 11-10 for the upcoming deal?

Hopefully I get some luck with restocks. I'm not gonna put too much faith in it this time around though. Most of the good stuff is long gone :(

I added a small add on in the important info section, however, I don't have any MG close to me and would not know exactly how they handle sales. I may have to talk to my best friend who used to work there to clarify on any info when it arises.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is listed as sub-$29.99. Is that correct or should it be Metroid Prime 3? I know the latter is under $30 - I think it's $14.99.

Not sure. I will double check when next I'm at the store. This title was copied exactly from the old thread as being found as qualifying for the sale. So I believe they do indeed mean the Trilogy.

also add on to the $29.99 list that I bought during turky day

mario kart ds
kirby superstar ultra ds
call of duty ds
rhythm heaven ds
resistance psp

Good luck dawn, and I am very happy you were willing to pick up the HWV deals thread. I imagine you will do even better then I did, but that wouldn't really be hard to do

I can't wait for the Thursday sale for the $4.99 games. Hopefully my HWV isn't already picked over from the last sale, I wonder if the locations will restock well?

works out better this way, seemed super dawn was getting all the info and then typing it up and then thekrakrabbit was having to retype stuff into the OP, etc.

it was a good team effort, but this should be easier and a faster way to just check the OP for updates.

thanks to the both of you though for finding us some great deals, your work is appreciated.

Btw...Thanks guys! I do hope I do a good job.

Nice work Superdawn. And thanks to thekrakrabbit for his work. I'm not hoping for much after the stores were cleared out during BF, but wth.

Read in last thread that Hollywood Videos with a Gamecrazy wouldn't be running these deals. However, the Gamecrazy attached to my nearest Hollywood Video is shutting down, but don't think it's quite shut down yet.

Would that Hollywood Video still technically be a combo store? or I might start seeing these deals?

Know it's as simple as just dropping by after work and looking, but wondering how much I can start getting my hopes up before that $4.99 deal they may or may not be running...

MY HWV had a game crazy attached, which closed before the last sale. They were NOT running the sale last time. The Game Crazy attached is simply empty space right now, and some of the more craptacular, unsellable things are in the HWV. I would try a HWV with no GC, past or present: I had luck that way

Wait, I saw a mention of Movie Gallery in the OP. Is this owned by HWV? Have people had success in finding the deals at a Movie Gallery? The reason I ask is because there is one that is not even a 5 minute walk from my apartment, but I've never been in there

It's actually the other way around. Movie Gallery owns Hollywood Video. They purchased HWV...uhh..about 2 years ago? So yes, they may have the exact same game deals going on.

Thanks! I'm from NJ and go to school in VA, so I've never heard of Movie Gallery before, and I figured they were just a DVD rental place. I'll have to go check out their stock tomorrow.

Red Faction: Guerrilla qualifies for the $4.99 sale now? Since when? I tried getting a copy(or three) of it during the last one and I was told it was still $34.99.

So either that's a recent $5 price drop or HWV decided to match Blockbuster's used price for it.

I guess I have to call the one HWV that always seems to let me know when these sales are to see if they did indeed drop the price on RF:G.

I wonder if they could request a copy of Uncharted for PS3 for me too, since mine has a couple scratches and a nick in the disc.

Thanks for the updated list and great work on the new thread, though you should probably add a link to the '5 dolla make you holla' trading thread that was established during one of the last $5 game sales so this thread doesn't get clogged with thinly veiled trade posts once the sale starts.

Here's a link to it: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Oh thanks for the link..awesome! I'll check on the Red Faction for you! I just went page by page in the old thread copy/paste what people had posted for getting during the $5 sale. I might just print out what I have listed...and go ahead and confirm it while I'm at work on Wednesday.

I know some were getting games that were still coming up higher(as I was watching the screen as the clerks checked games for me to verify), such as Little Big Planet and Red Faction and some were getting clerks to scan new games with this sale and getting those. Though I'm sure clerks were fired over letting new games out of the store for $5 each.

Thanks again for all the hard work on this thread and the info on the sale(s), Dawn.

You should be able to transfer games from Gamecrazy (if your store has one) to buy for the sale. Could be YMMV though, as I'm not sure if they are supposed to do such a thing.

I already called and asked about LOTR: Conquest yesterday and I think the manager knew it was me, since I've been hitting up these sales regularly since they started running the $4 and $5 last gen/current gen ones.

I tend to call and ask about upcoming sales very often anymore.:D So, I guess I'm going to be calling tomorrow to ask if they could have a couple more titles transferred over for me.:)

I definitely want to try and pick up Godfather II, Red Faction(if it qualifies) and a copy of Saint's Row 2 for PS3(had 2 after the last sale before the BF one but traded them).

Otherwise, I'm trying to cut back, but between the Gamefly used games with free shipping, the GoHastings.com 30% HOLIDAY code sale and this upcoming $5 sale I'm going to be broke sooner than later.

omg...ME too!! haha  ...u mentioned the gohastings in your pm..but its rare when I buy a game for more than $20. I try to hold off till its cheaper. I'm having to force myself to shop for Christmas and not just myself lately. stupid deals. ;)

sweet so COD4 just dropped under 29.99? i tried to get that one at thanksgiving and it was still too much :( any idea on mlb 09 for ps3? had my eye on it then too but it was 34.99 :/

I will be heading out Thursday morning to try and get in on this but I have a feeling I will be unsuccessful. There are to many people trying to flip especially if this hit's slickdeals or fatwallet.

When did COD4 drop, because I had a manager tell me today it was $34.99 for the PS3. I still had her transfer it for the sale, but after she told me that I was thinking I might have to leave that one behind.

that's for the ps3..I don't think it has dropped. I only have it listed for the 360 as dropping in price. Games will be different prices for different platforms most of the time.

Clarification: Are people calling Game Crazy's and getting games transferred over to the HWV for the sale? I didn't know this was possible.

:whee: New thread!
Red Faction: Guerrilla qualifies for the $4.99 sale now? Since when? I tried getting a copy(or three) of it during the last one and I was told it was still $34.99.
It did not qualify last time, but I posted that I picked it up because it was mistagged $17.99 and they overrode it.

I browsed at a GC today but the guy working there was new so I didn't ask about transferring stuff. Supoosedly the guy who told me I could do that will be there Weds. Here's hoping! I have my eye on a few DS things.

Other stuff I saw that was $29.99 or under (I'm not cross-checking this with the OP but super_dawn can add any that aren't there):

:360:
Tales of Vesperia

:wii:
Warioware Smooth Moves
Broken Sword

:ps3:
Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds

:ds:
Kingdom Hearts 358 Days
Scribblenauts

No one ever seems to be interested in cleaning out my local HWV in these types of sales, so I'd be glad to do it this Thursday. =D

My store has dried up but I'm going to see if I can special order something like I did over the summer. That score was amazing. I hope the nice girls are working there still.

Thanks for the update, super_dawn.

I hit three HW videos this weekend (Detroit area) and all were cleaned out (besides Xbox and PS2 used games). Unless the stores get some additional stock, there will be very slim pickings.
