Is there a way to get rid of the black borders on the left and right of the screen when playing PS2 on HDTV?

You could change the aspect ratio on your TV itself. But, obviously, the picture will be stretched (and it might not look too good).

EDIT: For example, mine has Full, Just, H-Fill, and Zoom. I can use them to stretch pictures and such if I needed/wanted to. (Though, I never use them.)
Ya I use those but with PS2 there's still a tiny black border on left and right with all settings.
I've noticed that too. I'm assuming it's the overscan area that's normally hidden by an SDTV's frame

Yeah, widescreen PS2 games include small but noticeable overscan areas on the left and right sides of the screen. This is the way it's supposed to look for the 16:9 aspect ratio, so the only thing to do is somehow zoom in a little further on the image if your TV allows this.
