spiderman 4 canceled

good now if only they could go back in time and cancel spiderman 2. the series could use a reboot with a new cast maybe go the ultimate spiderman route but they should really find someone young to be a teenage peter for at least 2 flicks. now if they go for the traditional spiderman series i hope they use kraven the hunter because that storyline is too good to pass up.

A reboot with a younger story arch would be nice. I agree with getting someone youngish to play Peter Parker in high school. I'd love to see a Batman Begins beginning for a rebooted Spiderman.

That blows. Here I was hoping for the natural segue from the Emo-Parker in SM3 to gay porn. Maybe even get Schumacher to direct.

Hmmm...I was just reading today that John Malcovich was gonna be the Vulture. Oh well, another crappy movie gone to make way for some good ones!

Was it actually canceled? Last I heard it was just stuck in limbo because Raimi was being strongarmed about whatever shitty script variant Sony wanted to go with.

Raimi has too much on his plate anyway. Spider-Man, that Leged of the Seeker show (is that still in production?) and now Spartacus on Starz.

Spider-man 3 was a let down, but still enjoyable--a few corny segments aside. I really love the first 2 movies.

So I'd be disappointed to see it canceled. I like the series with Raimi directing and Maguire as Parker, and would like to see it continue assuming they can do better than the 3rd one and get it back on track.

I don't mind as long as the next one is better than Spiderman 3. I just hope they don't reboot every time they change cast members. I can see Spiderman becoming like James Bond, every few movies they change the cast, but that way they can keep doing new stories instead of the same origin story every other movie.

Seems so. He quit, and they (Sony I think) are doing a younger version. First-ish story on io9.com.

fuck Sam Raimi. We would've had a goddamn Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, but instead he realized there was still money and a strong fanbase for Evil Dead and helped stop it so he could allegedly try and do a remake and a direct sequel (which of course never happend). Plus after Spider-man 3 you can tell Tobey is tired of the damn role and Kirsten Dunst has always been terrible.

Now where's that gif of Tobey doing jazz hands and sending gust of wind through Gwen Stacy's hair as he's dancing.

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash was the worst movie idea ever and I'm glad it got canned. They would have soiled Ash's name.

Anyway, the story for the reboot sounds awful. Just stop. End Spiderman on the low note that was Spiderman 3.

I have to say I liked the first 2 and could live with the last one but they killed Venom. That should have never happend.

I find it fucking lame that Spider-Man is being rebooted and that we'll see Peter Parker back in high school. Sony, you pricks! I'd rather look forward to an uber 3 hour extended cut of Spider-Man 3 than this bullfuck :bomb:!

1) Good.

2) A reboot already? I certainly wouldn't pay money to see that.

3) They fucked Venom up, the wasted Dr. Octopus. I'm happy they can't do more damage to it.

4) I thought Spider-Man 1 was going to be the worst thing ever made. It totally blew me away, Goblin costume aside. Happy to have that one movie, the rest of it all sucked.

^This. Especially #3.

This is some of the best news I've heard.
I hated Toby Maguire I thought he was one of the worst picks to play Spiderman.
Spiderman 3 was one of the worst movies I've seen in a while, after it I wanted the whole series to just end.

I'm not a huge fan of Spiderman but to me everything was done wrong in the Spiderman movies. Bad casting, bad story, the only think I liked was Sam Raimi directing the first 2 and Bruce Campbell's cameos.

An Ultimate Spiderman style movie would be pretty good.

why do a reboot. Sorry I really like Spiderman but the origin story isn't that great, I have no need to see it done again. Spiderman 1 did a good enough job of parker in HS.

I would like to see something more adult done with Spiderman like was done with Batman. Kraven's last hunt or the Death of Jean DeWolff could make a good plot.

you could get around that by using a quick flashback moreover than that the spiderman origin is so widely known you dont need to do an origin story for it.

start the movie with some action bits do one of those pause moment where he starts doing an internal monologue/narrative toss in a few scenes of his being bullied, the spiderbite, the uncle dying power/responsibility blah blah blah just another day for your friendly neighborhood spiderman go back to action.

i also hope whoever the new spiderman will be is someone who enjoys his work. i dont want to play another spiderman game where the main character sounds bored and drugged up when hes reading his lines.

Studios wanted multiple villians, Raimi and Toby wanted one.

Don't rejoice - I get the sense that we're in store for a bunch of corny-ass Spiderman movies similar to the Joel Schumacher Batman flicks.

This all the way.

Maguire was a terrible Peter Parker. He turned the wisecracking Webhead into an emo kid who complained throughout all three movies. I'm glad the movie was canceled. Spider-Man 3 was a travesty and a joke.

This. Hope you enjoyed all those "Vultress" rumors, because that's what you're gonna get now.

I agree with most you guys spiderman 3 was horrible. The story was all over the place. There was no reason to put multiple villains in one movie. They really didn't do venom justice in that movie. Although I thought that the first two were pretty good. correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't peter Parker in high school in the first one?
This. Hope you enjoyed all those "Vultress" rumors, because that's what you're gonna get now.
It was Sam Raimi I believe who wanted a Vulture and a Vulturess character. Same with two red headed twins. So without him, who knows.

Raimi didn't even wanna include Venom in the third movie since he's not a fan of the character, but thanks to executive meddling, he was forced to shoehorn him into the plot against his wishes, so if you wanna blame anyone for Spidey 3, blame the suits.

I honestly enjoyed Spidey 3 in the same way I enjoy the first live-action Street Fighter movie: I just treat it like an accidental comedy.

Personally, I wish Disney could just reel in all of the Marvel film licenses, so that they can connect to main Marvel movie line (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, etc.). Not in blatent ways, like having some ultimate team up thing (Though my inner geek thinks that would be super-mega-rad!), but it would be cool if we could see something like Tony Stark having a quick conversation with Reed Richards, or maybe see a news report on Spider-Man in the background of a scene. Just little things to make all the movies feel like they're taking place in a cohesive universe.

Also, on the subject of multiple villains in a movie, I always wish they could handle it more sensibly. I'd like to have seen something like this in one of the Spidey sequels: Movie starts in the middle of some sort of robbery being led by a thug-type villain, like Electro, Vulture, or Shocker. One of those villains that really couldn't carry a full film, but would be fun to see. Spidey swings in, there's a brief fight, and the villain ends up webbed to a wall, or hanging from a lamp post. Spidey swings away, main title comes up, and then we move into the main plot with whatever mastermind villain taking the spotlight. That way, we get to introduce other villains into the Spidey-verse without having to waste the whole movie on them. It would have been a great way to build up to a Sinister Six movie. Oh well.

Yes. I heard Sam really try and save Spiderman 3, but the suits kept messing it up. I don't blame the guy at all...

huh thats interesting i always assumed spiderman was so bad because he wanted it to be so they wouldnt keep having him make more. topher grace would have been a better peter parker.

Good, if true. Raimi needs to go do something else. Dude's too good to be directing Snaggletooth singing and Spider-Man dance numbers.

But a reboot? I don't see it. The first one is less than ten years old. I know they did a kinda-sorta reboot with the Hulk only a few years apart, but Spider-Man ain't Hulk. (*edit* - just saw it is planned for 2012, which pushed it out of that 10 year window, so shut my mouth).

fuck that. "Soiled Ash's name?" What, because he's some untouchable icon of film? Army of Darkness was a drastic departure from the first two films and it was fine.

The Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie would have been awesome and the comic adaptation of the script they DID release a couple years abck was damn good. It somehow managed to use all of the characters "properly" and had a plot that did a nice job of tying in the elements of all three franchises. It's too bad they opted to go with a mediocre Friday remake & a sure to be crappy Elm St. remake instead.

Meh, I don't really care for the Spider-Man movies, though John Malkovich as the Vulture does seem interesting. If they reboot it, they'd better show Peter building the web shooters.

But what I really need is a Spider-Man TV show.

Maybe there should be a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash movie. Bruce Campbell did make "the Man with the Screaming Brain."

Sorry, but that's life. There's plenty of times bosses give their employees tasks they don't agree with. The truly creative hard workers out there will work through that challenge and come out better for it.

If Sam Raimi was truly the creative genius everyone makes him out to be then he would have managed to make an interesting film despite having to include a character he personally didn't like.

Overall I could really care less about the Spider-man franchise. The 3 films weren't that spectacular that this news would mean anything to me. I wasn't really looking forward to another Spider-man film anyway so this news isn't doing anything for me.

As a regular reader of comic books I'm really starting to come to the opinion that comic book movies just don't work. That's not to say that all comic book based movies are bad (The Dark Knight and Iron Man are 2 of my favorite movies of all time) but rather the more you try to capture the actual comic book world it gets to be silly. The reason being that comic books require a certain suspension of disbelief to really enjoy. When movies ask us to suspend disbelief to an extent that comic books require it comes across as hokey and unbelievable.

The reason I bring this up is that Spider-man 3 is, characterizations aside, the most faithful comic book recreation of the 3 films. Sure Spider-man 1 recreated the most scenes from the comics but it still took place in a more realistic world that Spider-man 3.

Even the part where they said the Sandman killed Uncle Ben?

All I know is that I am very excited. Sam Raimi stopped caring and as a comic book fan his series wasn't even close to as good as the comic book. Tobey McGuire was such a pussy too. James Franco should have been spiderman not pussy McGuire. This can only be good for the series. No More EMO Spiderman!!!
Even the part where they said the Sandman killed Uncle Ben?
No, I don't mean the specific plot details matching the comics. I mean the general setting, plot, characters, etc. were the closest to being like a comic book than any of the other movies.

For example, the villians and such from the first 2 movies were far fetched but still semi-plausible. A man made entirely of sand is not based on any type of reality, ever. That's the kind of thing you see in a comic book and don't think twice about. When you see it presented as reality in a movie, it just plain comes across as ridiculous.

Another example being that no effort was made to explain the venom symbiote, something you can look past in comics (the initial introduction of the venom symbiote/black costume was similar in that it just appeared) but it will seem lazy in a movie to not give audiences an explanation.

Ahhh, gotcha.

I'm glad to see this end. I read something a week ago saying Raimi "hated the script".

So the idea of a reboot is nice in premise, but I have the sinking feeling that the suit influence will be high on this movie. After the box office from the first ones, I can see this being further dumbed down to it's target audience of young children so they can sell more toys.

I've never been a big fan of any of the Spidey movies but Spiderman 3 stands as one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I never liked the cast. Toby brought absolutely nothing to the role and I just can't stand Dunst. I have nothing against Rami but I just don't understand the constant fanboy nut-hugging for the guy.

I really hope this franchise reboots in a method similar to the one taken by Warner Brothers with Batman....basically making a movie that appeals to an older auidence not just 12 year olds.

As for the constant push for multiple enemies in comic book movies, it is pretty simple.....toy and merchandise sales. More characters = more products = more potential sales. It's pretty simple.
That blows. Here I was hoping for the natural segue from the Emo-Parker in SM3 to gay porn. Maybe even get Schumacher to direct.
Now I will never get to see spider nipples on spideys costume. :(

The new Spiderman movie should be more realistic like the Nolan Batman movies. Peter Parker can be a physics nerd in college who is fascinated with spiders. He learns parkour, designs web shooters which contain fluid similar to what spiders make, designs a suit which can detect small vibrations to give him a "spider sense", a exo-skeleton within the suit making him a bit stronger and a bit more able to take a hit, and tiny nano-fiber hairs on the suit allowing him to stick to almost any surface.

The story would be that he mostly uses the suit for his own gain until his uncle gets killed, so he decides to use his skills to take on bad guys. The main villain can be the Kingpin.

I expect they'll try to make it like Ultimate Spider-Man since they are going back to high school. But remember, there's only one name attached to awkward teen roles in Hollywood, and its Michael Cera.

Yeah i too am interested in this reboot. I like Spidey but Venom had no business in the 3rd movie. I know the studios were thinking merchandising, but to take Spidey's main arch nemesis and just to throw him in to a backseat role was disgusting to me. If anything, Spidey vs Venom should have been the third and than they could seg way that in to Carnage. If they wanted to do a real 3 character movie, IMHO the Carnage arc would be the way to do it.

Anyway, I am interested in this reboot. It worked out for Star Trek, so hope Spidey gets the same treatment.

Sony probably told Raimi and Maguire that they were going to get Taylor Lautner to play John Jameson and they both said "fuck it" and walked.

I found the Nolan movies very pretentious. Batman was a godless crime fighting machine that I couldn't admire, the characters were aloof, and the dialogue made everyone seem like dicks. If they ever did that to Spider-Man...:bomb:

I don't really care about Spiderman 4... I was pretty sure it was going to end up being Spiderman 3-2. Spiderman 3 was terrible. The world knows that the most popular Spiderman "villain" was always Venom. I wish they ended up doing one villain/one movie, but it didn't happen. They made Venom suck!

Anyway, I don't know much about comic books, and other versions of Spiderman, but didn't he obtain his powers in college? What good is it going to be to have him go back to High School? I guess the worst part is that with it being Disney, they are going to blend as much High School Musical crappiness into it as they can. Get ready for a sparkly vampire movie with comic book characters instead. It's going to be lame.

I wish they would just take an awesome comic book and adapt it straight into a movie. The story is already there, and it's clear by reader reactions, which ones would be extremely popular movies.

Imagine if they made a Spawn movie nearly as awesome as the comic book? Better than the heap they ended up making... at least the soundtrack was awesome.

Nope, both the original & ultimate versions of the comic had him gain his powers in high school.
