Looks like expanding the best picture field to ten only served to allow nominations for above-average mainstream films.

+1

I lost it when it won a golden globe for best picture (drama).
Thanks for posting the nominations.

I hope Kathryn Bigelow wins best director. She didn't win a golden globe so hopefully she gets something for her work.

Seeing as it was a seemingly knee-jerk reaction to disappointment that neither Wall-E and/or Dark Knight were nominated last year, is it really a surprise?

I think Adam Quigley said it best ...

Having 10 Best Picture nominees and 5 Best Director nominees is like the Academy quietly telling you, "Here are the 5 that won't win."

But as long as Christoph Waltz wins Supporting Actor for "Inglourious Basterds" I can't be too angry with the other winners/noms.

Mr. Freeman needs to win an Oscar before he kicks the bucket so i'm rooting for him for best actor.

Mr Simon was there, too, as well as other Germans who lived through the Berlin blockade like Gerhard Kapito.
"After the war, we looked on the Allies as occupiers," he says. "But after that we came to see them as our friends."

So, Mo'Nique has been nominated for an Oscar.

Has anyone checked the temperature in hell today?

That was the stated goal. Generate more interest by having more nominees that the casual movie fan has seen.

I think he'd win if the guy wasn't in every other movie put into production. It gets to the point where every role he does bleeds together. It's like the same fucking character in every movie.

I hope Basterds sweeps. Of course, I say this knowing that

A. It won't
B. I haven't seen Up in the Air or The Hurt Locker yet.
