Ahh Lord of the Rings Trilogy SteelBook date is such a mess!
That ad was likely printed weeks, if not a couple of months ago. Well in advance of any changes with the "release date" of the steelbook.

Any ad corrections are printed in-store and stuck on the front door of the store, at least at my local BB.

They're going to have a lot of upset people when the steelbooks are long gone before the ad runs... I wonder if BB corporate will figure it out in time to have stores pull any remaining stock for Sunday.

Are these Steelbooks a BB exclusive item? Seems like everyone wants to get their hands on them but I'm not sure what they are/what's special about them.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help!
It's a BB exclusive item, yes.

It's a 6-disc steelbook, in black with text from the One Ring in yellow on the front of it. Ultimately, it's nothing more than a tool to drive in pre-orders, since it's a "free" item if you go through with the pre-order and pick up the movies.

There's a whole thread about them over here:

Might pick up Quantum Of Solace, Die Another Day, and Goldfinger at those prices.

I wish Goldeneye would just come out already on Blu-ray.

OK cool thank you! So BB just issues these for random movies?
OK cool thank you! So BB just issues these for random movies?
Best Buy did them as pre-orders for Snow White, Up and now LOTR. Those were pre-order items available for the pre-order o the respective movies.

Best Buy has also brought out exclusive versions of some movies in steelbook form, such a number of the Disney movies like POTC and The Nightmare before Christmas and a number of the Pixar movies like A Bug's Life.

The "free steelbook with preorder" bit is somewhat new.
Hmmm. Capitalism is the same price on Amazon...
shouldn't they just distribute it for free?
