After playing both L4D's I prefer the first one. Better characters, much better level design, and an overall better sense of trying to survive a zombie apocalypse (the second game feels more arcadey). Anyway, just my opinion, they're both great games. If you liked the second game and haven't played the first this is a good chance to pick it up.

Good price, I may have to rebuy this one.

I sold it when I got the 2nd one, and I completely agree with your assessment. I did not like the 2nd one at all, and thought I was alone with that opinion. All my friends seemed to have expressed love for it, though I do note that none have played it much since the first few weeks it was out. :D
 
I'm kind of glad I snagged L4D2 used for like $13 back when GS made that error but regardless they are both great games. Had them both for the PC since release and am strongly debating the first for the 360 now.
 
best game for achievement hunters. I highly recommend it. If you got three other friends who have this then you are gonna have a blast.
 
I think it is an actual price drop; I scanned a lone copy at Target the other day hoping it was still on clearance, but it came up $19.99

Was this for 1 or 2? I'm still trying to convince my XBL friends to hop on over to Steam.
 
of course its on sale.....i waited and waited and finally bought l4d1 last week....only makes sense it would finally go on sale afterwards....
 
I prefer L4D1, also - MUCH better characters than in L4D2 IMO (I am surprised at how many reviews that say the opposite).
Although L4D2 has some cool levels - definitely good to pick both up at these low prices, with no reservations.
 
In terms of comparison, the first only has one advantage over the second; the characters. Admit it, we all love L4D for Francis' witty banter.

Other than that, it feels rather incomplete compared to the second. I do like how the second's levels put good use of its surroundings from going down the carnival's slides to fighting off hordes while on a concert stage to fighting off hordes and the weather in the middle of a hurricane.

Although L4D2 is the better game, L4D1 was a better experience for me. It was new, fresh, and fun. Shit if you're going to replay the game so many times, the characters make a big difference. I wanted to survive as Louis, or save Zoey, or let Bill just die hahah. Put 5x more hours into L4D than L4D2..

anyway thanks OP good price for L4D2 on PC since my sis been lookin for this.

1. If it was 2 I would've bought it, and I'm pretty sure 2 was never on clearance.
 
1 seemed to have a darkish and eerie atmosphere because most of the levels are at night and very small rooms.
2 has a more lighter atmosphere because its levels are in the daytime.

2 is in fact a more of a action shooting type of game.
1 is more of a horror survival type of game.

i like 2 over 1 though. every now and then i pop my 1 in there and play lolmercyhospital. in 2 i love dark carnival and hard rain.
