This seems to be a big hit this year. I havnt played it yet, but I have fond memories playing this years ago on the Sega Game Gear.

For the most part, it seems people dont notice topics here until there is a new post. So I'm bumping this topic.

Open for discussion.

I just finished the XBox version.
It's only about 10 hours of story gameplay, but it constantly keeps you coming back for more.

I think it's one of the most original and well-done games I've played since Ico. The demo on the OXM disc didn't do it justice.

My only complaint is that the fighting can get a little tedious at times (there are times where you'll fight 20-30 enemies without the ability to heal yourself) but other than that, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

(Plus, in the XBox version you can play PoP 1 & 2!)

I second the hate the Demo opinion

I hated it so much, I was taking points off collection/wish list rating topics every time it turned up on someone's

The acrobatic puzzles are easily the best part of the game. Swinging on poles, running on walls...it feels very cool once you've gotten used to it. The combat is somewhat tedious - the Prince simply doesn't have enough moves/weapons to make it as interesting as the fights in DMC or Zelda, for instance. The graphics are stunning (they sort of remind me of Ico) and the storyline, while slightly hackneyed, is presented well.

Probably adventure game of the year.

I was wondering that myself. Every time I read a review, they all said that in the PS2 version you could play the original POP. It made me wonder if the original POP would be in the XBox version. Then I got the XBox version, and was very pleased to find it had both 1 & 2 in it. So did PS2/GC people get ripped off?

BTW, it is a fantastic game. On the short side, but very cool.

What I'm wondering is how the time control aspect is done. I get the whole "fall off a cliff and rewind time" deal but I mean it sounds to me like you won't really be using it that much. Also, you get "sand" or something like that to be able to use it, is this stuff all over the place or is it like a precious, "only use when really needed" type deal?

If you fall a great distance (and you will, often) you can rewind to just before your fall. If you take a lot of damage from a hit, you can rewind and change to blocking, or jump out of the way. There is a lot of sand to be had -- You can get it when you defeat a monster in battle. You can only hold on to a small amount at a time (that amount gets larger as the game progresses).

Because the game is so short, I think a lot of people will see it as more of a rental than a purchase. I am definitely keeping this game in my collection, but I understand that some people get rid of any game they have beaten. If you don't at least rent this though, you are missing out on a great experience.

Yeah, it's definitely not the longest game in the world. But, except for some of the fights, none of the experience is "padded" with unnecessary gameplay. Again, it's much like Ico - short but sweet. If you want to rent it and beat it, that's a good choice. I sort of like lingering over games. :)

You use the rewind A LOT. Fall down, get spiked by a trap, or get hit by an enemy, and you'll soon instinctively hit the rewind button.

Too bad this game is over shadowed but all the games being force fed to the public. It really is a gem of a game though short. It is one of the most well done game that I've ever played in this generation.
yeah, dont you know? madden 2004 is game of the year ^^
that was the biggest crock of BS ive ever seen...how the hell does a sports game win game of the year. It's not like a normal game. A sports game isn't nearly as creative as half of the games out there. And, what the hell was SWG doing up there for game of the year I betad it and it was freaking awful. I played it all throughout beta and It was easy to tell it was a game that they screwed up. those VGAs were a joke.

Yeah, but at least they had the common sense to make it so a game can only win 1 award. (But WTF is up with Smackdown winning fighting game of the year and SCII getting "most addictive?") I also don't think that Vice City should have been nominated for best animation.

prince of persia is one of those games that is obviously amazing but i dislike it - its obvious technical excellence can't overcome the fact that it is a platformer and thus not my cup of tea

vga's were indeed a joke, but entertaining. Game of the year is prob. FFX2 and you should rent prince of persia, its fairly short

As of all the games I've played in 2003, PoP is one of my favorites. Yes the game is short, it is not that challenging, but it is just pure fun, I fell of cliffs so many times or got chopped by some guy's sword and got completely pissed off, yet I continued to play it. I don't think the fighting is that tedious once you figure out how to avoid being hit and countering. The graphics are great, the story is good and I enjoyed the ending, and the gameplay is as good as it can get with the types of camera angles in this game.
As for the original PoP in the PS2 version, ya it's there, but you have to unlock it at a certain point in the game by breaking down a wall, however I find it pointless to put it in the game because I couldn't play the original for two seconds.

I know that the GC version the original PoP is unlockable with a link cable/GBA and the GBA PoP. You have to find three hidden switches or such in the GBA version of PoP to unlock the original PoP on the GC. Kinda pricey proposition just to get an unlockable that is included in all the other platforms. They also have a power that the Prince can get that revives his health constantly if you link up with the GBA version.

Not sure what the PS2 version has I think just PoP1. Only Xbox has PoP 1 and 2. I may be wrong on that though.

I also heard that the PS2 version was the worst of the three (graphically). I remember seeing that in an EGM before, on the sidebar in the review section. But why would Xbox have PoP 1&2 and none of the other versions?

Yawn , I found it to be repp. and not very much fun. When I end up going and playing another title like Fire Emblem half way through I know I don't enjoy it too much. I really don't like most all platformers though, so you can't hold my opinion too strong.

I enjoyed POP for the xbox. It only took me a couple of days to beat, but it was fun and I thought the story and especially the ending were great. The graphics look sort of fuzzy and soft on the xbox, and it felt almost like playing a cartoon. They did a good job with the visuals and the overall feel of the game. The controls were tight and I never became frustrated with any section of the game. It felt very polished.

just wanted to know what all of you POP fans thought of Beyond Good and Evil (another truly great game that was overlooked by the mainstream gaming population).......i picked it up for xbox for $19.99 last week and simply love it, even though i heard it is also short like POP

I think this game deserves some consideration for goty, I just played it for the 1st time yesterday...and couldn't stop. Now 43% through the game. I love the puzzles and acrobats involved with this game mostly. It has a pretty good story and the graphics are well done.

PoP is the most fun I've had playing a video game in a long time (I'm playing it on GCN). The puzzles are a joy to figure out and the difficulty is perfect (IMO - not too hard, not too easy and you feel a sense of accomplishment once you reach that "unreachable" platform). I am at around 65% and I have loved every second of it. There is no "filler" like so many games nowadays suffer from and IMO, 10-12 hours of pure fun is a perfect length for a game (always leave 'em wanting more!). PLAY THIS GAME!

My only real complaints with Prince of Persia were this...1. EXTREME Linearity - There was exactly one path, and you had to follow it. 2. The lack of real power ups. I realize you got slightly cooler swords, but once you got the dagger and the four moves or so that you could do with it (which I accomplished pretty early on) it was pretty much the same old, same old, even if same old same old was wonderful.

I think it would have been nice to progressively get the prince's athletic abilities, as opposed to having them from the start.

Still a brilliant game, with some of the best writing ever.

The game being short is no biggie. I'd rather have 10 hours of extremely tight gameplay without all the filler crap.

Having played the PC demo (on my new computer with full settings no less ;) ) I can say that alot of work was put into it. The only point that feelings a bit weak is the combat but even that is pretty cool. Playing this makes me think that these guys should have made Enter the Matrix, Mr. Prince Guy can do pretty much any Matrix-esqe move, running up walls, backflipping with slashing baddeys through the back of the head in slow-mo, and various other feats of super-humanness. Maybe I'll buy it...

Better on PS2, GCN, or PC?

best version is xbox for the extras... second best is either gcn or PC (if you have a pc game controller and a fast machine)

Game is amazing for X-Box. I can't tell yet if I like Ninja Gaiden more than it... At this moment no, PoP kicks major ass.

This game was awesome, great gameplay and story, the only thing that really dissapointed me was the last boss. He was way too easy. Love the ending though!

I thought it was great - though a bit repetitive it was somehow just lots of fun to play. Luckily they're making a sequel even though it didn't sell well. :)

I played the PS2 version.. thought it was beautiful and lots of fun, even though I am not a big fan of platform games..

I would like to see a longer game in the sequel... but I thought I got my money's worth out of the first one.
old shaq-fuing topic
Who gives a shaq?! It's a great game. I'm trying to find the XB version cheap but the BB's around here are all sold out.

I got the XB ver. for $15 last week at BB :whistle2:D I'm not going to get to it for a while, though - I'm in the middle of like 16 other games at the moment.
