Nintendo DS download service revealed!

I would hope that they would somehow implement a wireless router into this equation. I wouldn't want to go to the mall every time I wanted to play one of those games.

I second that

Just as I predicted. It would be nice to have some local storage to hold on to demos longterm but that could potentially be done from a demo disc running on a PC connected to a WiFi network.

Even without that, this is a pretty nifty marketing move. It isn't as though most of this is intended for permanence. Except for the extended content for Band Bros., which apparently has a lot of flash capacity in the game card, all of this is demos. Having to go to the mall to check it out isn't a terrible inconvenience from Nintendo's view, seeing as they hope you'll play it a while on your own unit and soon be back to buy the full game. It may be more limited than things like the frre demos Sony occasionally mails out but it's a big improvement for the portable market where the cost of ROMs has previously made offering demos too costly.

On wonders if the cost of UMD will allow Sony to offer PSP Jam Packs. They could also go the PC route and offer downloads from a PS2 Jam Pack disc via USB cable.

I really don't see Nintendo going into that business. Linksys, D-Link, and countless others already have it pretty well covered.

Now, if you mean allowing people with a WiFi network at home to download the demos to their DS without leaving the house, it's highly possible. I'd say it largely depends on how paranoid Nintendo is about control of what code gets run on the DS. This could become a conduit for unauthorized publishing of DS games. That sort of thing gets Nintendo riled.
