Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:
http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Welcome to the new Blockbuster thread. We had over 4000 posts and a quarter of a million views (!) in the last one! I figured we ought to get a new start while it is relatively quiet at BBV. Yeah, there's a deal (B1G1 50% off) running, but if a true B1G1 really starts up after that I wouldn't want to cut people off (ie, those who, like me, generally just check subscribed threads) in the middle of that. So hopefully everyone can find this one over the next week and resub - which can be done from the "Thread Tools" menu above the thread. There's no need to post "Tagged!".

Anyone wanna take bets that this is finally the Blockbuster thread where we eventually start discussing blockbuster liquidation sales for all stores?

Sad, but likely.

The final flips will be sad as well.

what happens when you subscribe to a thread? does that mean that new post get emailed to you? That would be handy. i clicked subscribe on the top because the blockbuster thread is my favorite, its where i get the best deals.

Hell yeah. The BBV thread is the best. :applause:

I too have a feeling that after circling the drain for so long that BBV is gonna join HWV in oblivion.

Then again, the only thing I think I've used my BBV card for as of late has been for signing up for trade accounts at multiple stores for flipping the free and nearly free BB games. Let's face it, BBV doesn't need customers like me getting free credit while those games I traded sit there and languish on the shelves.

Mind ya, without me 2-3 of the local stores would've never had in any copies of Sudoku Ball Detective or Fairytale Fights for rent.:D:lol:;)

Damn I shouldn't have bought that Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, & GBA this past week! LMAO

But then again a Super Nintendo w/ the original box for $20, a Dreamcast w/ a controller & 2 games for $15, & GBA for $5 isn't too bad.

I stopped by one store on the way to work about a week ago & they were low on used games. They did have Smash Bros. Brawl for $14.99.

That combined w/ the B1G1 half off even combined w/ the $25 Best Buy gift card & it's nice deal.

 Good luck with that IO, as no one ever reads the first, second, third and so on posts in their entirety. People want everything summed up in those 'too long didn't read'(tl;dr) sized summaries or they just skim the posts.

I can't even count all of the times I've had the same questions asked(and I've asked the same questions too, so I'm just as guilty:cry:)that were answered via a FAQ in the first or second post of a thread I've made.

Funny thing is w/ you posting that, I JUST found out what tldr means. I have seen it time to time in forums but was like what the hell is that?

to fix that, all you people have to do is stop answering questions in the thread that are already in the first post. just ignore them.

if people are too lazy to read the OP, f em!

except the sears thread where the OP is useless.

I'm glad the first post in the Sears thread is pretty useless though, since otherwise I think all of the local Sears stores would've been cleaned out sooner.

As for answering people's questions, normally I just post a link to where the answer can be found anymore, especially all of those people asking for trade in value price quotes and making threads just to ask for those when there's a whole GS trade-in value thread.

I welcome the new thread. I also hope the OP is somewhat updated because it can be hard figuring out the best flips across ten or so pages of posts at times.

Then you need to pay attention to the thread more and keep up with the posts as people make them.;) Or....do your own homework as to what are some of the better flips.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to finally just hit the ignore button.

Saw Bayonetta for $29.99 along with Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn for $19.99. Wish I would've gotten them, could've sold FE on amazon for about $22 after fees, making Bayonetta about $20 out of pocket.

Picked up Lego Rock Band for PS3 and Beatles Rock Band for Wii. Each was $14.99. Best places to flip after I'm done with them?

I'm not going to update the OP with "flips". That is up to you to keep track of. Prices for used games at BBV, sure, but not "flips"...
I can't believe it's taken me this long to finally just hit the ignore button.
 But at least I can look up my own information on what's flippable.;)

if only we lived in a perfect world, the problem with putting flips in the OP is that EVERYONE (including my grandma) will be flipping games posted in the OP, ive made the mistake (quite a few times) of posting them, and then TIV sinking faster than the titantic, i too sometimes get lazy and dont want to read 3000+ posts to find a deal or watnot, but if u check the thread 3/4 times a week, u'll stay up to date

yeah i know you are but that defeats the whole purpose of an OP. Seriously, it's a sale list, not notes on a conspiracy.

Went to my local store the other day to check out some used games....gotta get this giftcard off my hands....nothing interesting. ...guess i'll be waiting for the b1g1....or any liquidating stores....

The last day of the current sale is today. And some stores got a transfer to send out most/all of their used games on Wednesday. (Blockbuster found a company to buy a good chunk of their used games, just like last year with the new ones. It may even be the same company.)

Dear Blockbuster, you keep telling us how important games are. But then you go and do something like this.

BBV employees....any word of price drops this week? Most of the stores I go to are so behind on their pricing, you really can't rely on the marked price at all. I know a lot of people have been hoping for Avatar to go to $14.99.

this is horrible news i hope you are wrong

wasnt this the guy that was wrong about the last sale though

Thanks for the quick response, hawaii...ME2 is a steal at $30; or $45 for two copies! Care to comment on the sale ending today, or next week...?

i know it was scheduled to end next week but...i'm gonna check thru our box office and comm updates in a few to see.

theanomaly could be right since he had some details of a sale last time it just wasnt a b1g1 like he reported.

as far as stores shipping off their used games i know that hasnt happened in our district. if his stores were directed to send them out then it would make sense that their sale is ending early as there would be no games. i dont know if it could be a store/district type thing but no word of it here yet.
