What? Yep, looks like it. The surprises just keep rolling in today, and the latest in-development title to be revealed for the upcoming 3DS looks to be none other than a remake of the N64 masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

This game has not been officially announced yet, as Nintendodidn't mention it in this morning's press conference and you won't find it spoken of on the company's site either -- but you will find screenshots. A half-dozen screen grabs exist and are hosted on Nintendo's server, so this one, while not officially official yet, is as good as confirmed.

Especially when you consider that Star Fox 64, another N64 classic, is also getting the remake treatment -- and that one has been confirmed.

You can see from the first handful of shots that Link will be sporting a livelier look in this new edition, one that's more colorful and more in line with what we've now seen from the Wii's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Perhaps Nintendo didn't want to draw attention away from the Wii project, and so wanted to keep this one quiet?

Well, that strategy worked. For a few hours.

4:27 Update: Nintendo's pulled the six screenshots from its servers since this story first went live a few hours ago, and a variety of explanations for them are now floating around the 'Net. Continue to take this one with a grain of salt, true believers -- remember, it's not officially confirmed yet. I've added a question mark to the article title to better emphasize that uncertainty, but let's hope the Big N comes out with an official yes soon.

5:45 Update: In a closed door, developers roundtable hosted by Nintendo, a non-playable demo of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS was on display.

6:15 Update: Nintendo confirms! It's not just a tech demo, friends, as the Big N has given official word that this is the real deal. Here's the buzz from Nintendo of America's official Twitter feed:

Zelda fans, one more thing... We're proud to introduce The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D! #NintE3ndo #E3

Ocarina of Time is a great game and all, but I would rather play something new. I played that game to death when it came out on the 64 and again on the Zelda Collection disc on the GCN. I don't think I want to play it on a small 4" screen just so I can see it in 3D.

For myself, I only played a few hours of the game, after I downloaded it via the Virtual Console on my launch-day Wii, which I had to sell a couple years ago when I was hurting for money.

Didn't download it again when I bought my new Wii, but I'd much rather play a crisper version on 3DS. Coming from a gamer who never really experienced OoT, I believe I'm in for a treat.

I have Ocarina for the 64, but I've never gotten around to playing that much of it, so I'm all for this. I'd be much more able to play a portable version, as I have plenty of time for that on the train and bus. Yeah, I'd put this up there as another reason for me to get a 3DS. That it will be in 3D, that's a very cool bonus.

This would be a great opportunity to play and finish Ocarina of Time as I've barely played it during the days. I have heard of it's epicness so I'll undoubtedly be picking it up. That and I have more time and motivation to complete games on handhelds rather than if I play them on a PC or console.

This is awesome news. I would hope that Nintendo would go the extra mile and give it a complete graphical overhaul - the N64 has not aged well. Sadly, this does not look to be the case based on the screenshots.

Link and Epona look updated in the shots. There will be some graphic cleanup. Even Mario 64 DS got some cleaning up when they put it out. I was surprised at how different Mario looks in it compared to the original 64 model.

Likewise, they are adding some minor gameplay improvements. They've apologized about the Water Temple in the past, and with the remake, are pledging to make it easier to navigate through it by streamlining changing clothes and boots. So I'm hoping for a way to change outfits and things with a button press, bypassing pulling up a menu altogether. (While we're at it, do this for Animal Crossing too, Nintendo.)

I wouldn't be surprised to find a few new additions to the game as well. Remember, beta hackers found two more temples that got somewhat developed but cut from the final game. I don't think they'll make it in, but the possibility is there.

It depends entirely on when they want this game to come out and how far along they are with it now. If it's a launch title and it's coming out before Christmas, then new stuff being added in drops dramatically, since it would be the primary software catalyst for the system. Hopefully we'll know in the next few months.

I think the N64 has aged well, but I never have been able to play Ocarina of Time. So, this should be amazing, especially with the 3D.
It would be nice if they included Master Quest and give Majora's Mask the same treatment.
Agreed. I would LOVE to play Majora's Mask again.

God DAMMIT, Nintendo, do you not have enough of my money already?

*cries*

Day. One. I'm incapable of fighting it.

I'd much rather play MM again than OoT. That said, I'll probably pick up OoT when it gets cheap, but I won't pay full price for it.

Same but that's only because I played OoT at least 4 or 5 times and MM only once back in the day.

Same here. I'm too lazy to dig out and hook back up my N64 for MM, but a handheld version would be great.
