2010-2011 NBA Season Thread

Yeah, Feeding the Abscess is right. There is no defense for the Cavs and how they played it while he was their. They made piss more decisions and that supporting case was complete shit. I really dot get why people feel the need to defend that team so much.

I had a post a while ago that basically broke down every year that Bron was there starting with the draft. Other than Bron himself and Boozer they failed to draft a single talented player...most of which flunked out of the NBA after only a few years.

Its getting to the point where its not even fun to talk basketball anymore because it just because people balls out hatred of Bron makes their brains turn to mush. Its only when you talk to a outright Bron hater that guys like Jamario Moon, Boobie Gibson, Dalonte West become a legitimate supporting cast.

And you have the nerve to say that that cast is better than Dirks cast now? Are you god damn crazy? Do you know how many current and ex-superstars are on Dallas? HOF GOAT PG, Ex-Superstar in Marion, Dirk, up and coming star in Jose, a legitimate C in T-Chan, go to 6th man and the corpse that is Peja. Pfft Mavs have a legit team and you are comparing them to that patch work in Cleveland.

yeah but the point stands that they weren't cheap and did everything they could to make Lebron happy. He asked for Shaq.

THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING TO MAKE LEBRON HAPPY!?!?!?!? What nonsense are you talking about? How is surrounding him with people that couldn't carry their weight at all making him happy?

Thats the whole point, everything they did failed horrible and thats why he left. Them getting Shaq after he asked for him is actually another example of how they failed so hard at everything. They should have had the balls enough to say....uhhh no we are not spending 40 million on a 38 year old Shaq, lets find another up and coming star.

So which Heat members are rumored to have been at the Mavs party?

They said several with Erick Dampier as the lone stand-out. Thats understandable to me as he was a long time Mavs player. I assume he was on his way out of miami after the season anyway so its not really going to kill him.

I can see the Heat or OKC wining in the next few years. I was surprised the Nuggets also made the playoffs, with a little work they could be a contender too. OKC needs a good center, they get that, and they will do well.

Heat need a center as well and some work on the bench. If they were to let one of the big 3 go, Id say trade Bosh.

Having one of the highest payrolls in the NBA because you chose to pay a 38 year old Shaq and 34/35 year old Jamison nearly $40 million does not a good supporting cast make. LeBron's supporting cast sucked in Cleveland, end of discussion.

No, they had the best big man rotation in the east, only one that was arguably better was LA big man rotation, they had a PG who was putting up 16 a game, shaq who was putting up 12pts a game while clogging the middle on defense, then they had jamison who was putting up 17 ppg. their bench was also great, JJ hickson, Zydrunas Ilguskas, Varejao, West, Gibson. no one can argue that that team was not on par if not better than dirks team in the finals. the only other big time scorrer on the Mavs is terry.

Dirk was playing with:
kidd: spot up shooter at this point in his career
stevenson: spot up shooter
Marion: defense/slasher from time to time
chandler: defense/ garbage points

Terry: offense off the bench for when dirk is resting
jj barea: playmaker/scorer

I don't see how anyone can honestly argue that that team is so much better than the team lebron had in cleveland

Edit: they also had a sign and trade in place with toronto for bosh if james had been willing to re-sign, but lebron and bosh both knew they were going to miami already........

what are you f'ing talking about? I didn't say the Cavs were geniuses. But someone said they were cheap. And they certainly weren't cheap. And they went out of their way to try to make Lebron happy. Just because they failed doesn't mean they didn't try.

any word on the impending lockout, as a Cavs fan i'm kinda hoping for one becuase that means another top 5 pick next year. irving, Kanter, varejao, hickson then another top 5 pick in 2012 draft that we can get a SG with? damn, cavs might be a decent playoff team by 2013 and challenge the heat.

i'd say dont trade bosh. He has been playing real well there and he is willing to pick up the scraps after the two dum dums and get his points. He is tough and willing to fight for rebounds. He would be the last guy i would trade off that team. All they need is a center and PG who can quarterback the offense. That can be Chalmers but he has some growing to do which the Heat as a team have to do in order to win the title.

They really just need to add some size at Center. I almost want to say go and risk to get Kendrick Perkins.

I'd say wait a while longer. Your picks have to work out and with the impending lockout and how long it drags on, those rookies can't even get a playbook. Plus, this also has to work out perfectly. meaning the obvious that they cant be busts. Plus the Mavs prove that Chemistry trumps talent. If the Heat build chemistry and a roster that is suitable and if Wade/Bosh/LBJ all develop their games even further like LBJ should go and develop a post up game....it could be a while till the Cavs can challenge the Heat. 2013 is too soon IMHO.

So Cuban's $90,000 bottle of champagne was 15 liters (equivalent to 20 regular sized), had to research that as most places just say a bottle without specifying the size.

I feel like we have this conversation constantly.

The Cavs spares were garbage/past their prime (minus Boozer and Hickson) through Lebron's time there. I will give you Williams as average and Jamison is good. The rest though is piss poor. Again a reminder; West is 3rd on his current teams depth chart, Shaq retired, Z got shoved out the rotation by Joel Anthony, and Williams who shot 39.9% on the season.

As for the Mavs cast, you are now just being laughable. I understand being a fan of a team but please take off your blinders and stop making outrageous claims. Again, look at your team minus Lebron. You take Dirk off the Mavs and they still make the playoffs in the tough Western Conference.

Oh and PS... Orlando had the best Big Man rotation those years in the East with Howard and Gortat.

Because no one plays defense.:)

Wait... what's defense? OK, while that may be true, that's what you need to surround Carmelo and Amare with - defenders and rebounders. It can definitely be done. I don't think you can just dimiss the Knicks entirely. They will be one of the top 4 teams in the east for a number of years barring injuries. The problem is that the Heat are going to be great. Damn, I can't believe the Knicks suck at defense. I used to love the 84-80 games from the 90s when Oakley and Mason used to just maul everyone.

No fucking way they get Perk, for two reasons actually.

1) He's signed long time with OKC, and they want him.
2) He, straight up, doesn't like those guys and the Lakers... with a passion.

I honestly don't think they need anybody, they just need to work better together. They'll have plenty of time to do so as well.

I think the main thing that would help Miami is a healthy Haslem and Miller for a full season.

Miami should make a move for Greg Oden. It'd be perfect, he won't need to develop an offensive game outside of offensive rebounds and dunks, and it's a high risk, high reward acquisition. If he never gets healthy, they essentially have the same team they have now + time/chemistry.

No way it can. This is NY we are talking about. The same team that use to have a roster full of SGs. This is the same coach that never got Phoenix over the hump due to not emphasizing defense... well even mentioning it.

East will look like this for the next 5 years (barring any major injury/trade).
1) Miami - Big 3
2) Chicago - young core
3) Atlanta - tight unit with great "role" players
4) Orlando - Howard will resign. The rest of the contracts are pretty set so team can't get any worse.
5) Boston - Orig Big 3 still look healthy. Rondo is top notch.
..... the rest of the East is mediocre.

Yeah, it's like they're complete opposites now. I mean, they don't have to be stellar on defense, but they have to at least try.

I dont know man. If the Bulls add one more player to compliment Rose, they will be there and If Howard resigns and the Magic start making a serious push for the right free agents than they will be ahead of the knicks. Also who knows what the knicks will do this season. With walsh out of the picture, what direction is the team going in?

SHHHH.

But really, the league needs to contract. Does the league need 30 teams? Probably not. And the fact that the NBA already owns a team should be proof enough that 2-4 teams probably need to get the axe.

I'm not wishing for any city to lose their team, I know that as a Blazer fan, being a small market sucks and sometimes you gotta do more with less, which is not what some other teams are able to do unfortunately. It also doesn't hurt having one of the richest people in the world own your team.
