The Case Closed sets are apparently doing well enough to make it to goHastings Top 100 Anime list, if that means anything.

The first special was released at a time when not only was Case Closed floundering, but the Lupin franchise was pretty much dead in the US. The latter is definitely having a revival here.

I don't know if I should smile or groan at Jaco the Galactic Patrolman suddenly becoming a prequel to Dragonball in the last chapter.

Has anyone seen Kill La Kill yet? I didn't like Gurren Lagann that much, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

I watched the first episode yesterday. It seems interesting enough. I liked it and it seems to be one of the animes people are looking forward to the most for the fall season.

So it's been a while, but figured I'd post a quick update on what I've recently watch/am currently watching:

First and foremost I never got to post about Steins;Gate which I watched a few weeks back. All I can say is it could very well be my new all time favorite anime, and anyone that hasn't seen it needs to ASAP. The first three or so episodes were a bit slow, but after that it gets so good, so I'd recommend giving it a few episodes before dropping it if it doesn't click with you right away. Highly Recommend!

Next up I finished season 1 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Sarizuma and rather enjoyed it despite (maybe unconsciously because of) its many quirks and oddities, though now I'm faced with the question of whether or not to watch season 2. I've heard a lot of bad things about it and don't want to ruin the series for me because of it, but still I liked S1 so it's only natural I'd continue the series. Anyone want to chime in, feel free.

Third I finally watched Baka & Test S2. I'd say I enjoyed it more than S1 actually, as (and I'm sure this will be a point of contention for some) it seemed to focus less on the school battle system and more on its hilarious characters. It's been a while since I've laughed so often and so hard an anime, and would certainly recommend it to fans of the first season. The only thing I didn't care for was how the female characters had suddenly become rather mean to everyone, going so far as to actually torture the guys at parts. I get this was for comic relief, but I would have liked them to be a bit more natural and less predicable. Maybe I'm alone in feeling this way, but it's one thing I'd like to change should a third season be in the works.

As for what I'm currently watching, my time is mostly being taken up by A Certain Scientific Railgun. I'm honestly not sure what it is about this show I like, but I've been marathoning it for the last few days and eating it up. I watched an episode of A Certain Magical Index a while back and it didn't do much for me, but I may have to give it another chance when I'm done with Railgun at least to get a few of the references and recurring characters I'm starting to see pop up.

I'm also watching Gosick, which is a pretty entertaining Sherlock Holmes sort of series, and Shakugan no Shana which I'm not quite sold on, but have heard good things about so will try and stick with it a little longer. A few other series might creep in hear and there, but that's about it for me right now.

Sorry for the wall of text by the way, it sorta got away from me ^_^

Finished watching Pocket Monsters the Origin. Quite interesting. The Pokemon themselves only spoke in generic growls and roars and only knew attacks it would learn by that point in the games. The Poke Balls use all new sound effects and animation from the anime and explode into the Pokemon like the games. Red also did all the in game events, like battle the Nerd in Mt. Moon, beating the Rocket Gang in Pokemon Tower and Silph Co., got the bike voucher, and received the Poke Flute to wake up Snorlax from Mr. Fuji. He even got the Lapras from the Silph worker. There were even VS. Splashes. Red vs. Sakaki (Giovanni) being inside an office was a nice touch too. And for the first time ever, TMs and HMs make an animated appearence! Amusingly, they look like floppy disks. I did like that they tied Mewtwo's creation with the MegaEvolution Stones.

The animation was a mixed bag. For some reason, all the building interiors and most of the outside backgrounds were CG, which was very distracting. And Episode 2's animation was just pitiful. One nice touch is that at the end of the episode, Red saves the game and then continues at the start of the next. Also, the recaps use the text boxes from the original games with the original quotes. The credits being on an OG GameBoy background was nice, but I would have liked it better if they made it part of the screen.

Sadly, the only Gym Battles shown outside a recap were Takeshi (Brock) and Sakaki. The other Gym Battles were given 10 second recaps. Even Red vs. the Elite Four was reduced to recaps. Hell, the final Red vs. Green battle was essentially just Blastoise vs. Charizard, the rest of the battle was skipped, although the battle itself was freaking awesome, much better thab Satoshi vs. Shigeru, which partially makes up for it.

The biggest problem was the main one I feared: They rushed through everything. This seems like 4 random episodes from a new series.

For those interested, Red was shown with the following Pokemon at different points: Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard, Spearow, Metapod (which actually helped against Takeshi), Rattata, Nidoran Male, Jolteon, Victreebel, Kabutops, Lapras, Snorlax, Hitmonlee, Dodrio, Scyther, Persian, Arbok, Tentacool, Pikachu, Chansey, Tauros, Gengar, Rapidash, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo, though he ended up capturing all 150 Pokemon at the end. Red's Hall of Fame team was Charizard, Lapras, Dodrio, Scyther, Persian, and Jolteon. MegaCharizard X was the only post-Gen I Pokemon shown. Charizard's moveset was Slash, Fire Blast, Swift, and Mega Punch. Sadly, Mew was not in a truck. Red took 35 hours and 46 minutes to finish his quest.

Overall, it was a pretty good special, but it makes me wish it had been a full-on 26-episode series.

Sunrise has announced that they're going to simulcast the new Gundam show "Gundam Build Fighters" with English subs starting this Monday, October 7th.

Keep an eye on Gundam.info if anyone has any interest in watching it.

I had no expectations going in and had read nothing about the show. Was not expecting "Gundam meets Angelic Layer." The story is crap, but the battles were awesome enough that I don't really care. I do hope it gets a proper intro though.

While Ramba Ral being the referee was cute, it should have been Stalker. And he should appear every episode out of nowhere like the Medabots referee.

Not a fan of Build Strike, but that may be because we already have a gajillion Strike variants already. At least it doesn't have blasted skis.

I do hope whenever the remake of the original Gundam gets off the ground they use the design of the White Base from the opening prologue here. That was a sweet design.

Let's see. As of late, I have finished up watching Future Diary and also Attack on Titan and S3 of The World God Only Knows from last season. All were great in their own right (Although I wish the OVA for Future Diary that just came out would have been included in Funi's releases).

I do usually pick at 3 anime from the current season to watch while they are airing, and I think this season I'll actually do 4. I think they are going to be Golden Time, Little Busters: Refrain, Kill La Kill and Log Horizon. (Especially looking forward to Golden Time!!!)

And a question to you all. What did you think of Watamote?  I actually thought it was well done overall. I made it through 7 episodes, but I did drop it just for the fact it made me extremely uncomfortable (Never has happened with me and a show before)

I am currently watching Future Diary.  I am only through the 5th episode, but I am enjoying it a lot right now.

I've watched the first episode of around 8(?) shows this season.  I'll continue to watch most of them, but the one that stands out the most for me is Golden Time.  I am very excited to see where that goes.   For a close second and third this year, I like both Coppelion and the Outbreak Company.

I only watched the first episode of Watamote last season and decided it wasn't for me.  The main character was a little too socially awkward, that I couldn't find the humor in it.

I enjoyed Watamote. I thought it was pretty good for something that didn't seem very interesting over all.

Currently I have 16 animes on my to watch list from this season and that seems like a lot. So far highlights of the five or six that I have started are Kill la Kill, Kyoukai no Katana, and Tokyo Ravens. Diabolik Lovers is awful so far, but it only has 12 episodes planned and each episode is about 15 minutes so I'll probably just watch all of it unless I really don't like it.

Started watching Persona 4 anime, then will get on with Sword Art Online. Enjoying Persona so far - makes me want to play the game even more.

For what it's worth I've loved what I've watched of Persona 4 and really DIDN'T like SAO (I still can't seem to get myself to watch the last three episodes). Take that as you will I suppose.

Time for a possibly unpopular opinion. I just saw Shinsekai Yori and it was the worst thing I have ever seen in recent times. And I just saw Evangelion. Just nonsense. People were heralding this thing and I thought it would be a decent post-apocolyptic anime. It was an apocolyptic nightmare all right, just that the "post" part had nothing to do with it. If you haven't seen it, don't. Run away!

And awesometown, it might be too late to stop you, but if you haven't gone though Mirai Nikki yet, stop now. It's just as bad as Shinsekai Yori. Possibly worse.

Well, I'm just about halfway done with it now.  I'm still fine with it, and I won't leave it unfinished, but I'll keep that in mind.  I do love weird bat-crazy stuff (mostly).

I'd never actually heard of this, but thanks for the heads up on it (even if it's an uncommon opinion, there is something to be said if it was THAT bad to you). Side note: is there any post-apocalyptic anime you would recommend? It's not a sub-genre I watch often, but more because of not knowing where to start than lack of interest.

Evangelion manga was better than the anime, but still had some weird pacing.

Watched the first two episodes of Pokemon XY. The animation was gorgeous, about the same level as Origins. I thought Ash's beginning excitement was more believable than his first day in Unova, and his first battle was more believable too.

Apparently the writers are splitting up the starters like they did in Hoenn. Since Ash got Froakie, and it's not the comic relief like Piplup and Oshawott, it will be Ash's first Water-type starter to evolve.

The only really bad parts were Team Rocket still using their OG motto instead of making a new one and the intro song was kind of boring.
