I am very interested in this. Not sure if I want to spend the money for the CE, but honestly being able to play it 6 days in advance of the retail copies might get me to jump on it if I decide to buy the game.

Seriously not happy about the delay between PC and PS3, but I guess I might be jumping in on the PC version. Just need to install windows on my mac. The CE does look great as well, and six days earlier access.

I played FFXI and enjoyed it quite a bit before moving to WoW. I don't want to get into another MMO but I really want to try this, so I don't know.

I know if I try to play casually I will get too into it~

Plunked down my cash today.

I love indepth customizable systems. Love them to death.

The fact that FF14 is supposedly classless and you get abilities based on your gear, letting you create your own class essentially? Awesome.

could somebody please post the specs needed on a PC in order to play this. CAG is about the only "game" website that I can get into when I'm at work

As of the beta, I believe these are the system requirements:

my buddy was in the alpha and now the beta. he said the game is pretty good but he does have a few complaints and hopes they are corrected before release. his biggest complaint was that theres no auction house, instead people set up bazaars in cities and you can shop from them. but theres no way to search for a certain item and prices are all over the place. he also said he doesnt like the class system, which as mentioned, is based on equipment. but thats just his opinion, not sure how id like it. he also said that its very soloable, which he doesnt like but i do.

Cool, I pretty much tried every possible way to get in on the Beta, guess the Beta gods just haven't chosen me yet. I will continue praying. :p

Now I'm one of those people who are interested in solo play. One of the major reasons I gave up FFXI was because I kept hitting walls leveling, I just did not have hours of time to wait around to make a party to level. While I don't solo exclusively, I would like to have that as a viable option to party leveling--and not rely on some stupid half assed game mechanics to do so, or be stuck with limited class choice like Beastmaster. All classes should be able to level solo. Such a shame, as the world was beautiful and the storylines awesome. Ok, thats my mini rant.

I've been wanting to give this a try but no luck with a beta key.

And Collectors Edition comes with a buddy pass? I'd love to have one of those to give away to a friend.

:applause:

The sole negative I had about FFXI. Everything else was fantastic.

I am not in the beta to know for sure, but maybe your buddy missed the AH? In FFXI you could have bazaars set up but there where still auction houses to sell and purchase items. It is entirely possible that they did indeed remove the AH, but that seems odd since it was in FFXI so it leads me to believe your buddy just missed it. Hopefully that is the case.

My GF and I both got new computers for FFXI (before we knew each other). We'll both have to get new computers again if we want to play FFXIV =3

Might do it just cause of fond memories of FFXI.
wait so if I only have a GeFroce9500 I cant play it ?
The requirements say that it requires a 9600 or equivalent, which means 512mb of video memory. If you have neither, than you will have to upgrade, yes.

Look at framerates and performance in the benchmark, the scores listed on the site are bunk. 2-3k+ and it seems you're pretty golden.

New wave of beta invites went out, still no-no for me. I'm getting a little anxious about beta. A lot of people are saying XIV suffers from the same issues that held XI back: slow, tedious UI, minor battle annoyances, no real camera control.

yup, nothing for me either. oh well.

I got my invite, but of course my computer will not play it so using my friend's laptop. Only created the character, I do like the customization at the start. Just a few differences which will hopefully make for a variety of characters out there, even if it is just hair color.

I definitely need to get my PS2 or Xbox controller and find out what is what. XI I had no problem with much of anything, it was end game that got just tiring. Everything else was fine, especially the UI since it was made for consoles and I beta tested that one on PS2 the controller was natural for me. All I needed the keyboard was for typing.

Depends.

For the love of god, let's NOT be on the Sephiroth server. That will be full of terribleness and we all know it.

We should play on Garland, that way we can knock them all down.

QFT. No way would I ever play on a server named Sephiroth (I also refuse to play with people who name their characters that. In my experience, anything or anyone named "sephiroth" ends up being terribad). If I get this game, I'm totally up for another server. Maybe even a CAG guild this time if we all start if from scratch, at the beginning of the game.

I'm a bit concerned that this game is about two months away from launch and SE still has its beta testers under a tight lipped NDA.

I really, really wish I could get a beta key for this game. Because I'm the brutally honest beta tester...every game I've beta'd for, the developers were probably cringing at some of the feedback I've given them. I play the game from the point of "If I had paid for this game, this bug/feature would piss me off" and always report that to the development team. I figure if someone doesn't tell them in alpha and beta that their game has some problems, no one will.

(BTW, I love beta testing. Especially when its a buggy, work in progress game, and the developers actually listen to your feed back and FIX THINGS!)

FFXIV may be my replacement for WoW. Would like to have tried FFXI but it looks like they took the trial down. :(

So it's settled. We will all play on Sephiroth, and our LS will be called Sephiroth's Slayers, and we will all use random mispellings of Sephiroth for our username.

:p

Square's very tight lipped with NDAs. They were the same in FF11, but we should be getting an open beta like 2 weeks before launch.

Troll guild is trollingest guild.

That would be fun to do for like for like 30min, just to piss people off.

I'm going to humour my self and try the benchmark on my laptop:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz
2 gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

EDIT: Scored 349, nice.

Gotta wait for the PS3 version :(

About to run the benchmark:

Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.00GHz
3.25 gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

EDIT: 1017. Meh. I'll get it for PS3 and plug a keyboard in. That way I can play it at higher settings anyway.

I remember when people wanted to do an LS together for XI...that sure worked. The majority of CAGs didn't make it past level 10 and quite. Then those that came back, went to their own servers. Think out of all that wanted to play, I managed to play with 2 or 3 of them before they quit.

Apparently FFXI did the same thing with beta servers, used villain names, then changed them to whatever they are now(summons?), people aren't expecting that to stay. All second hand knowledge I've just read about. Never played XI.

I'm definitely playing XIV, pre-ordered a CE and just spent 600 upgrading my computer. I get 3500 on high and like 4200 on low(again though, look at framerates and how it looks, not based off their ridiculous scoring system).

Phenom II X4 945 3.3ghz
radeon HD 4870's Crossfired with slight overclocks(kinda works in benchmark, with an extra file and renaming the exe)
4gigs of ddr2

Though it is fun to max just cause 2, I even tried aion on a private server and maxed that as well. I kept thinking my previous computer was low mid-range till I actually tried to run the benchmark and then realized how bad an average gaming pc from 2007 really was now.

ANYWAY, save me from the ass-ness that is the gamefaqs ffxiv board. I stick around it for info and thoughts on the game, not the people. If anyone wants to jot me down to pm me later at release or someone here does try to start up a LS, I'll be paying attention and will try and join. I like getting better and serious on these games but I also play to have fun, no drama no bitching.

From what I remember they were named after enemies not the big villains, but yeah I'm sure the server names will change. I think I was in Cactuar for the FFXI beta. Then they were changed to summons after as you stated.

Dropped in an order for the CE today. First CE that I have ever ordered for a game at that.
I was originally just going to pick up the PS3 version, since I get tired of the cost of keeping a computer up to date, but I am not willing to wait that long to play.

Tried the benchmark this evening, got around 2500 at 1920x1080 resolution. Not shabby considering how old my system is getting. I am down to 2GB of ram since half of it went bad, so replacing that should help some. Kinda odd that the benchmark is windowed instead of fullscreen. That has to hurt performance some.

At any rate, looking forward to the game.

Just saw the preorder at GS, was unaware this game was coming out so soon. Happy there is a thread already, going to build me a new pc just for FFXIV.

Quick question though...

Can you use a PS2 controller on PC just like FFXI? Because that would be awesome.

P.S. I'm up for a CAG guild or whatever.

Most people didn't get a difference using the benchmark in fullscreen, you download some dll and stick it into the folder. Renaming the exe allows you to use the thing with crossfired cards like mine. Still, the benchmark is not great at actually benchmarking, at all. Sounds like you should be more than fine.

Right now it's probably the best method of control from what I'm reading. Hoping keyboard + mouse gets implemented properly as that's what I'd like to use, never played ffxi. They're ingame but..not good.

Sweet! I actually remember when FFXI came out and someone was trying to explain something to me, and he kept telling what keys to hit. Except, I was using a PS2-style controller on the PC, no keyboard. And when I tried to explain that it sorta' blew his mind, lol.

Also, I remember I had to cross the world alone as a low level character to get to my friend. And there were so many nice Japanese people who escorted me. Of all the people I actually played with, the Japanese players were by far the nicest. Here I was a newb and came in and crowded their perfectly good server, ruined their perfectly good economy, and they chose to go out of their way to help me out anyway.

So looking forward to this! Yay! :)

So a friend and I have put in pre-orders for CE's as well.

One of the big reasons we ordered the CE is because it comes with an authenticator device. Big plus in my book, as it prevents people from hacking into your account by generating a new one time use passcode every time you log on. (I have one on my WoW account and it works great.)

I remember in FFXI alot of people would have their accounts stolen by hackers and RMT companies. I'd like to have an authenticator from day one to cockblock those people out of my account.

I really wish more online games came with an authenticator option.

I have the beta, i don't get why Square-Enix has such a hard time making some decent client updaters. It takes ages to download the bate, fine, but now it wont install the new updates.

I really wanted to try this Beta, but seeing the game won't actually update, kinda hard.

As much of a Squeenix fanboy that I am, I totally have to agree. FFXI was so so so terrible at that, and I was kind of hoping FFXIV would be better. I remember one day after being out of FFXI I wanted to install it again and play some. You know how long it took to do all the updates and start playing? 2 hours? 4 hours? TRY ~36 HOURS! Seriously, forget optimization, it wasn't even efficient.

There are other ways to download the beta than using their client updater. I suggest looking at the beta forums.

I was able to get to update in no time. Not to mention I think tomorrow there will be a beta, so it's probably best to download it today, and not worry about the big download...except maybe the update.

You didn't have to wait this long. SE has had the authenticator available for two years now. It happily keeps my XI account more secure.

That's because XI was designed for dialup (SE's own admission). That's why it has that god awful "download each file one at a time" They've gotten better by using a torrent downloader for XIV like what Blizzard uses for WoW but it lacks any sort of configuration. During the Alpha it gladly gobbled up each and every once of my upload bandwidth which made anything trying to even access the internet slow to a f'n crawl.

I can't even get the installer to boot - crashes every time. no clue how to fix it.

you might not have a PC capable of running it. Does it just blank out, give you a black screen and tell you an error message? Either you need to change your card, or maybe you're missing an update, or even download the most recent directx.

Edit: Oooh just noticed the beta runs today from 10 EST till 8 EST tomorrow. Sweet :)
