I have always had an xbox 360 for console gaming and I do have a nice high end computer for PC gaming, but its about time I got a PS3. I was going to wait for the white slim but who knows when and how much that would be. I know there are great bundles out there, but I'm not sure where to start, all I'm looking for is a 250GB slim with whatever is the best chipset right now, and possibly a game and HD cables. My search so far has yielded this as a pretty good bundle. Any tips?

unfortunately i dont know of any good ps3 deals, but i can tell you that the one you linked to isnt one of them. you should be able to get a slim for $299 and a copy of LBP GH for $30 and HDMI cables for less than $20. $50 cheaper than your link. i'd keep a look out on dell.com. in the past they've discounted PS3s, before they priced them to clear out the fats. good luck!

If you can wait a few months, Black Friday tends to have some great PS3 deals. Last year, Walmart (I think) had a PS3 Slim, Batman: AA, and The Dark Knight as a bundle for $300, and I think that there should be some even better deals later this year. I can't think of anything going on right now, though.

Ah, but the Amazon link is for a 250GB system, the $299 price you claim is usually for the 120GB systems. He wants a 250 he said. Finding them below MSRP is usually restriced to just Dell, like you said, and Bing Cashback eligible websites. Therefore, anytime you can get some free bonuses added to the MSRP price, just find the one you're comfortable with and go for it. Of course, Black Friday will yield the best returns for bundles, it's just whether you want to wait it out or not. And of course, never pay retail prices for HDMI cables, check out monoprice or meritline.

Dude I just answered this question in another topic but heres my 2 cents
I am looking to getting a slim also, towards the end of august tho. I was looking at some bundles to save some cash and make the dollar go the extra mile. Here were my two options:

Walmart: Players' Choice Bundle $399.99
120GB PS3 Slim
1 Additional Dualshock 3
2 New/Used Games
Should come out to $399.99 + tax + shipping.

Costco: PS3 online $299.99 - great for their lifetime return policy
120GB PS3 Slim $299 @ costco
1 DualShock 3 Controller @ Amazon (free prime)
3 Used Games at GoHastings B2G1 $1 Sale
Should be a little bit more than the Walmart bundle but you get 1 extra game depending on your choices for me: RDR, GOW3, Batman:AA

If your set in just buying the console, I would suggest going to Amazon as they charge no tax and I pretty sure you can get free super saver shipping or something like that and pocket the rest of that money to pickup another dualshock 3 from Amazon. You can also check out Craigslist for some good deals. And 120GB should be good for you, I have a spare 500GB harddrive that I plan on putting on the slim, so you can upgrade later

I find either buying the system for $299.99 and piecing together a bundle for yourself is the best bet at this time. If you want a place with the best return policy then go with costco if you don't want to pay for tax go with amazon. Then I would suggest waiting for the next b2g1 $1 sale at gohastings because you can get three good games for the right price: i.e. RDR, GOW3, and Batman:AA for around $75 shipped depending on the sale price. Also If you have the extra cash you can pickup one of those Dualshock3 bundle games for $5 extra dollars - I would suggest GOW: Collection because it comes with a cool red controller. Just my 2 cents.

So glad I jumped on one of the Fathers Day bundles.

I know someone who was trying to get that Walmart bundle. He wanted RDR, HDMI cable, Street Fighter 4 (Not SSF4), another DS3 controller and the 120GB for 474$ with shipping and tax for that bundle (or thats what it was when I add it to my cart). You can get the same stuff through amazon (RDR used 37$,HDMI 5$, DS3 45$, PS3 300$ =387$, without tax and free shipping). I told him not to even bother with Street Fighter 4, might as well take the difference in money and grab Super Street Fighter 4. The tax alone on the Walmart bundle is about 30-40 bucks.

Do you get any discount at Costco? Id go through there is you wanted the return policy like others have said, if not, go through Amazon. That free year of Prime for students is awesome for this as well. Pay the 3.99$ for next day, or wait the extra day on the two day.

I believe the newest chipset is alloted to model # 210x , so definitely look out for that in your purchase. There is a very good chance there will be a Madden 11 bundle if you can wait and enjoy the franchise...around mid-August. Other than that, I don't expect any discounts anytime soon. Move bundle will be out late Sept, too.

That deal is a rip off. You can get a new ps3 250 gb for 350, LBP for $30 and an HDMI cal for $10 (remember brand and thickness does not matter with hdmi as it did with analog cables becasue the signal is digital you either get crystal clear signal or no signal) that adds up to $390 which is $60 cheaper.

good call. i totally forgot that there are multiple hard drive (pricing) options for the slims. thanks for reminding me.

I am also looking for a PS3 but had a different question. I don't want to play ps2 games so besides that is there any big difference in the units besides hdd size?

I bought a 250GB PS3 with Infamous and Little Big Planet for 350$ from Gamestop. Not sure if they still have those or not. I also recall seeing Best buy having the 250GB Bundle with Uncharted 2 for 350$ as well I believe

Here are my thoughts:
1.) Wait for the end of this year as typically, retailers will bundle an extra controller or a variety of games for free.
2.) Buy from Amazon if you don't want to pay for tax.
3.) Buy a Playstation 3 with the smallest hard drive and then buy a 750GB hard drive and install it. I'm sure the internet can help you on how to install it and what types of hard drives to buy.
