I recently bought both a Turbo Duo & a PC Engine from a friend. I dont really know much about the games (especially Japanese ones). As far as hucards go, I only have Splatterhouse & Bomberman. For CD games I have a whole spindle of burned games, but the only ones i've tried so far are Fighting Street (AKA Street Fighter) & Devil's Castle Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (AKA Dracula X :)). Fighting Street blows. Dracula X is fun but hard as shit (I never played any Castlevania before). I really like shmups & side-scrolling action games, which there are probably a lot of for the PC engine, so can you guys recommend me some games (of any genre)?

Anyone ever play the CD game "Dead of the Brain parts 1 & 2"? Looks intruiging but its one of those really rare games that always goes for big money (like $100s) on ebay.

Ys Book 1&2 - Beat the VC version a few months back and loved it. Amazing music
Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu - A action platformer, kinda quirky but fun.
Neutopia 1 & 2 - Zelda rip off but good rip offs.
Ninja Spirit - Intense fast ninja action.
Valis III - Maybe not as good as I remember but worth checking out. It's a shame this series got turned into anime porno.

There was a Godzilla fighting game that was actually pretty good. I Think it was simply called Godzilla CD. Lords of Thunder is an obvious choice. The TG16 has so many shumps that it's the go-to console for the genre.

No but I remember when it first came out (1999 I think) and I scoffed at the idea of buying a 16 bit CD game for around $60. I feel pretty stupid about that now. I'd like to have the official final release for the PC Engine just as a kind of farewell to the system but I doubt that'll ever happen now.

The two genres that really shine on the PC Engine (for English speakers) are shooters and to a lesser degree, platform games. That said, in many cases it's hard to recommend the actual hucards or cds thanks to the virtual console and the PSN store. For example, I love Lords of Thunder but in 2010, I don't think the average person should pay for the actual CD via eBay for $35 (or whatever it runs). However, for 900 Wii points, the VC version is a must-have. Same with Gradius II, Blazing Lazers, Final Soldier, etc.

Damn, I had the opportunity to get Ys, Neutopia, & Valis. Godzilla I have (burned). I still have the opportunity to buy Lord of Thunder, Space HArrier, & a few more PC Engine games that I dont remember the titles to, for $5 each. I guess I'll go back for LoT Wednesday.

Hey, if you'd like to pick some up to sell or trade, lmk. I'd definitely want to try to bulk up my collection.

Back on topic, some recommendations are the Gate of Thunder 4 in 1, Double Dragon 2 (import), and Exile.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that cd-rs will burn out your laser at a fast rate (so I've heard), usually because of bad software rips. I'd love to try Dracula X and Exile:WP, but I'm afraid of the consequences on my system :hot:
