Ebay Auctions - Funny worth money? Hey that rhymes... I'm an idiot.

I think the subject title is stupid as well. Thanks.

Nevertheless - I've been an Ebay member since forever and while I'm not a power seller I'm at about 70 (100%) feedback and feel that I have bought what I wanted and sold what I didn't need anymore. Normally I have your standard auction - DVD for sale, sealed - with a photo or whatever - strictly professional.

But the more and more that I watch (TSS even has a whole segment dedicated to it) - the craziest things on Ebay go for a stupid amount of money. My animal cracker looks like Elvis - sells for two-thousand. Signed in invisible ink by Mark Prior baseball, BIN! Even searching through this forum trying to see if this was a double post I see "Win a date with a guy who's good at Tekken" and "Destroy my ex-girlfriends little pigs"... And for the most part they don't go for much money.

I'm not looking to make $1000 on my next auction - but do you think (as a buyer/bidder) you're willing to spend a little bit more to win a Nintendo DS that's been blessed by the Pope - or just a plain old DS?

Is it worth it to even try and auction like that - knowing that some people will think you're funny and the others think you're an ass? Just check my Tradelist link in my sig, my "ass rating" is apparently high in some books.

Or do you think its better to stay professional?
.... and don't inflate S/H rates. Everytime a RE2 for GC sells for $20 plus $80 S/H - baby Jesus cries.

I think on ebay it is a very good policy to always be professional, there are a lot of stupid people there and a number of scammers.

I've found the best way to get attention for your item is to simply have a picture next to the listing and state clearly that the picture shows the actual item being bid on. I do that and even though my feedback is only 25 my items often sell for higher than normal prices.

Oh and personally on this site I simply build shipping into anything I sell and then reduce it if people buy more than 1 item.
