What feedback should I leave for this one?

PsyClerk

CAGiversary!
Won an auction back in February, Feb 20 to be exact. A couple of weeks go by and I don't hear anything from the seller, nor do I recieve the item. So I email the seller. I got a reply within 24 hours saying that they had someone helping them do eBay stuff, and my item had just been mailed that day. A little over a week later, it finally shows up. In a shoe box wrapped in plastic bags. The mailing label was a big index card taped to the outer bag. Hrm.

Item was (miraculously) fine. However, I'm wondering what feedback I should leave. It took about 25 days from auction's end to get here (I paid within 2 minutes of winning), and the packing was suprisingly shoddy. On the other hand, it turned out ok and they DID reply to my email pretty quickly.

Since we have some masterful eBay sellers here on CAG, I shall put it to poll. Do I leave positive feedback? Maybe a positive tick but note the troubles in the feedback text? A neutral? They have already left feedback for me so no fear of retaliation.

neutral- for shipping time and packing and lack of communication on their part for not contacting you about the auction until you finally wrote them.

E-mail the seller again and bring the issues to the seller's attention, then leave feedback depending on what kind of response you get.

I agree about the neutral. Like someone previously posted you might want to wait til they leave feedback so they don't give you a negative out of spite.

if they have thousands in feedback, neutral so it stands out; any comments you make won't matter when smashed in the middle of 10,000 other "THANKS FOR TEH BESTEST EVAR!!!11!!!1! A++" comments.

If they only have a few, then I'd specify the shipping problem in a positive remark.

myke.

I retract what I said earlier about giving them a positive. I was under the impression that you hadn't received feedback yet. But since they already gave you feedback, stick 'em with a neutral.

As stated, they have already left me a positive, so their feedback is not an issue I have to worry about.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I wouldn't leave them feedback, I would think that they don't deserve a positive but I don't think I would give them a neutral or a negative either.

no matter what, item was delivered within the ebay time limit and item was fine but comment would also be neccessary in the feedback.
I thought not leaving feedback was one of the eBay cardinal sins.
I don't think so, feedback is earned, not automatically deserved. There have been times when I haven't left feedback, the most recent example is when it took 2 weeks for me to receive the item sent Priority (seller waited a long time to send it) and never even acknowledged they received the payment. They also didn't leave me feedback which is also part of the reason I didn't leave them feedback.

I don't leave feedback on many things I sell or buy, I figure unless I am happy or ticked off I really don't care to much.

It all depends on what feedback they've left you.

If they left you positive then you might wanna either just give them a positive and note the slow shipping or maybe a neutral.

If they haven't left you feedback I'd probably recomend not leaving any feedback at all and definately not leaving negative or neutral because then they can just hit you with a negative right back in retalliation.

i recently ordered a palm/cell and the shipping time was fine b/ the guy forgot the software and i cld not activate the phone. the guy is nice enough b/since i am inpatient i ordered another phone and paid a few dollars more so i will not leave any feedback at all. i purchased the psp yesterday and a guy promised 24 hr turnaround after payment. i'll give him 48 and if no psp, BAM negative feedback

The shoebox just seemed to be a little flimsy. My problem lies more in the fact that it was wrapped in plastic bags. Just made it seem like MacGuyver packed the item while drunk.

If you received the item in good shape I'd leave a positive - you got what you paid for - just note the packaging/shipping issues in your comment. It's not like you have to ever buy from that seller again...

I hate when people don't leave feedback, especially if you've left it for them :x

Anyway, I think you should leave a neutral. Negative is too harsh, you did get the item and it wasn't damaged or anything. However, that shoddy shipping job (you can mail a shoebox? ) could have caused damage to your item. And furthermore, if they said they had someone helping them out, then what's the excuse for sending your item out so late? A month later is unacceptable, and whatever you paid for shipping (and then got crappy packaging)...I think a neutral would suffice. It won't take away from their feedback, so you aren't hurting them or anything.

Bottom line, note the late shipping, the terrible packing, but the item was fine.

They should have sent it sooner, but you did get it and it was in good shape. So I think a + is in order with a comment in the text about the slow shipping and poor packaging.

I could maybe see a neutral, but no way should you give a negative.

Actually I would probably go with Yoshi's suggestion and not leave feedback at all. (eBay feedback is entirely optional.)

I did this (didn't leave feedback) for a seller who shipped 2 games Media Mail despite advertising Priority in his listing (it was a free ship with BIN listing, so I suppose he could have said the BIN free shipping wasn't meant to be Piority, but the listing should have mentioned that) and one of the games had a few more scratches than I would consider 'mint'.

I second that. I would just not leave any feedback at all. It doesn't hurt them but doesn't help them. A neutral really kind of hurts your feedback. I would leave neutrals in a case where the item was not as described or damaged due to bad packaging and they refunded you.
