UPDATE:

I was in the middle of a game of LoL when suddenly the screen on my HP laptop Pavllion spazzed out. To my understanding, the game and other functions I tried to do we're not responsive so I did a hard shut down.

Upon reboot, everything seems to be working properly but the screen itself is split horizontally into 4 repeated images of itself, and it looks very blurry/artifacty -- basically broken.

Any idea on what it could of been or what I should do? I don't think it could just be the screen if freezing is occurring as well.

----

And for the possibility that my computer is gone and I would need to pay a good sum of money to repair it, how much is a decent laptop these days? These are my current specs, and all I would want is a better processor.

OPERATING SYSTEM:
Windows 2.6.0.6001 (Service Pack 1)
CPU TYPE:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz
CPU SPEED (GHZ):
1.52
SYSTEM MEMORY (GB):
2
VIDEO CARD MODEL:
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
VIDEO CARD DRIVER:
nvd3dum.dll
DESKTOP RESOLUTION:
1440x900
HARD DISK SIZE (GB):
103.45
HARD DISK FREE SPACE (GB):
23.55

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be overheating. I had huge issues with overheating with my laptop. Blow out the dust, get a laptop cooler and these issues will happen less often.

Cheap laptops? Maybe 350 or so for a decent one (non gaming)

Ok nevermind, my computer is really messed up now. I'm running on safe mode, horizontal pixelated lines are everywhere and I can brush them away for a second if my mouse cursor moves over them. Computer freezes if I try to start normally.

I know that there was a period of time about a year ago where people were bringing in HPs to our shop continously with video issues. There are several models, including the dv6000 (which is a very popular model) that had a motherboard recall. I would definitely try to call HP to see if your computer is one of those. If it is, they should fix everything for free.

I bought it used 3 years ago, so it's well out of warranty. Is there a certain way I should word my call? Because I've been reading about the issues with the dv9000 series and I have the same video card in question as well.

Definitely still call. If it's a recall, the warranty doesn't matter. Although there might have been a time restriction. It's worth a shot.

Bleh, told me that a faulty manufacturing problem would arise within the warranty period, and anything outside of that is pretty much bad luck. $300-$400 for HP to fix it. I'm going to see a friend since he's pro at this stuff and can get me a new motherboard for cheaper but most likely I'll be looking to buy a new computer ASAP.

This seems like a decent deal.

Although buying a new computer is going to be a devastating blow to my wallet

That sucks. The part alone is going to be in the 200-300 range alone though, if not more. And since it's an older computer, it may be worth it to just go with a new one. I'm not much on the sales side of things, but Dell's new budget Alienware laptops are pretty cool. Good luck!
