Uh Cheapy, is the mystery game Wizard of Wor?

EDIT: Yep, it's gotta be The Incredible Wizard (Wizard of Wor) for the Bally Astrocade, just saw the Youtube video of it.

Agree with Shipwreck on the whole Penny Arcade thing. It's being blown way out of proportion.

Kind of hilarious that it's caused such a stir, considering how many things that are usually infinitely more offensive to people have been on Penny Arcade's comic. I thought the Dickwolf strip was pretty funny to be honest. Not because rape is funny or any bullshit like that, but because I'm an MMO/RPG fan and it's just one of those oddities with the quest structure in most games that you encounter.

The comic strip wasn't even focused on rape, it is being completely blown out of proportion, of course, by saying that I'm just a rapist apologist.

Is the game Missile Command?

bah sounds like Cao was right?

Anyway good show. The hour is fine when it's not full of the potty humor crap. I like the predictions segment too. Keep doing that.

And agreed with all the praise for Dead Space 2 so far. I'm only on chapter 4 but so far it's a very good game.

Mystery game is definitely Wizard of Wor, congrats Cao Cao. :p

As for the shorter show, I personally liked it since IMO there was a better balance of idle chat and actual content.

Good show as always. You even got through a whole episode with no complaints by cheapy about the exchange rate of the dollar to yen for once.

A "dream portable" where a person can take the exact same game from console to hand held and share saves . . . I enjoyed this years & years ago, TurboGrafx's Turbo Express. It's still in my basement somewhere.

sonic the hedgehog!...is my guess, because wizard of war sounds like Epic games version of harry potter.

Bingo! Great game too. PM me your retailer of choice and your name, address and phone. Congrats!

pick amazon cao, then you can use it to buy both games and groceries.

Oh and Longer is better by the way, for episode length as well as screen and penis size.

Hey Cheapy,

Can you throw your U.S. listeners a bone here regarding the contest? I listened to the podcast first thing this morning when I woke up. I almost drove off the road on the way to work when I heard the Wizard of War sound effects. I rushed into work to post but someone at 0200 had posted and, I think, is on the other side of the world. I used to play Wizard of War all the time at the local pizza parlor.
How about a little something for your U.S. fans?

Good show. Prefer the longer ones..of course.

Great discussion about the NGP. I'm gonna get it day one. UNCHARTED!

Btw Cheapy, short show SUCKED. :(

Everyone seems to be ragging on the NGP for being to console-ish, even though i agree, I notice that everyone seems to think that equates to failure. Now that Sony has a portable that does console graphics and has two sticks, how has no one come to the conclusion to the end all be all...? Four words. Call of Duty Portable. Even if it was just a port of Call of Duty 4, you'd have to imagine that would outsell a 3D Mario.

Great show. I have to say I kind of liked the shorter format, sometimes things get a little bogged down and I kinda zone out while listening. It appears I'm alone in this opinion though.

Also, why do you have to read disrespectful listener comments? I made a similar comment regarding the death of the racing game genre last week but my comment was civil and respectful. I guess those just aren't as exciting to read on the show.

The NPG is already a failure in my mind.
It has way too many specific features on it.
Games available for it will only underutilized the features, because they will all just be ports.
Developers would be nuts to spend the money on an NPG exclusive.
Sony's isnt known for its long list of successful handhelds..

With all the features they're packing into this thing, the price is going to be expensive.

On release Sony loaded the PS3 with tons of features too. It bloated the system to incredible costs, and they are still in this frame of mind with the NGP.
Havent they learned anything??
This thing is doomed before it gets out of the gate.

It wasn't just short, but too much time was spent on the whole Penny Arcade "controversy." Take that out of the CAGCast, and I think it would be the first podcast with a negative running time.

But, that being said, I still need my CAGCast fix, and nothing is better than something. Strike that; reverse it.

I prefer the longer shows Cheapy, this show was good but it felt like it ended very abruptly where as the CAGcast usually comes to a more natural conclusion.

Too bad about the short show, but we did lose 10-15 minutes right off the bat since there were no new games.

Agree with Wombat's points about the NGP. It needs to leverage it's controls and other tech to create something AMAZING that you can't play on anything else. If I can play it on a PS3 at home I'm not interested.

Even then it will be a tough sell at $400.

Great show...longer is better though.

Handheld talk: U guys real quickly mentioned that the NGP would probably have a PSN type store...but actually I'm thinking the key to success would be to have the same PSN store.

It looks like Sony is adding all the PS3 titles to the mix like Uncharted, Killzone, etc. but....I always thought the first company to do an Arcade store on the go would win the handheld front. Games like Limbo, Costume Quest, Bionic Commando ReArmed, and Shank among others are perfect for on the go gaming. I think older games like Crazy Taxi and Rez would work well too. The games are already all digital and saves could be used cross platform pretty easily. It would be nice to have trophies\achievements stay the same across platforms as well. Plus it would be nice if you bought it once you could have the game on both platforms.

I thought Microsoft might do something like that with LIVE Arcade but then we got Windows Phone 7.

I think comparing Dead Space 2 to RE 5 is somewhat unfair given that the latter is almost two years old already, and was designed first and foremost as a co-op campaign game, something which Dead Space 2 lacks entirely.

Vanquish is a recent Japanese game in the same genre which stands up to DS2 in terms of graphics and gameplay, even if it's lacking in content.

Nice job. My guess was going to be Life Force on the NES (I know Cheapy loved the Gradius games.)

In regards to the NGP discussion, Sony is opening up PSN to Android devices so they're going to be able to play at least PS1 games on and probably PSN specific games also. Then the NGP will work with any game currently on PSN, including PSP games bought on PSN.

My hope is Sony or Logitech wise up and release the long-rumored UMD reader for the NGP since people like me have a large UMD collection (I built most of my collection from Goozex but still I have a large UMD collection.)

I'm guessing I speak for a lot of listeners when I say I don't tune in to get the new releases and a quick video game news recap. The shortened show mostly left the parts of the CAGcast I can get from any website or podcast and sacrificed a lot of the banter and sidetracked conversations that make it unique and entertaining. Keep the run time long enough to sound like you're having full length casual conversations, and not compressed to where it sounds like you need to hurry on to the next segment.

Nice quick show guys. I personally prefer the 90-minute version though. You seemed too rushed which is probably because you were. Keep the extra fluff in the show.

Cheapy, I'm going old school with my answer for your guess the game contest. Is it Haunted House?

Good show. I like the short shows especially during busy weeks.

Anyways, I think the NGP "PS3 on the go." is kinda stupid. Especially transferring saves from the PS3 to NGP - your saying we would be buying the game twice to transfer a experience from a console over to the handheld? Either way, the whole thing that bothered me with the PSP was a lot of the games (till recently) were watered down portable games similar to their console versions. I like how in recent years the PSP had some unique game and had lots of JRPGs.

I agree short show was not as good. I like to listen to the podcast in the car that way it takes all week to finish it. I was done today. By the way I've never heard of Wizard of Wor but I bet they reuse a lot of those sounds because it sounds an awful lot like galaga.

OK I have to actually put my 2 cents worth in on the whole Penny Arcade "thing".

It was abviously meant to be a look into the obsurdity of some people being so focused on the "task at hand" other than to help someone out of one of the most horrific situations possible.

I took it as the slave's situation as gravley serious and the "hero's" situation as obsurd and self absorbed. The funny part is that the hero is too self involved to help someone in real need. (but lets face it, it is just a game and not real people)

But, like many things in life, it is up to you interpritation.
I cannot fault people for having an opinion, but I can help them look at the big picture instead of only 1 small part of something.

I will stop now, because I could go on with this for a long time.

LOnger show or shorter show? I just want a good show.

If it takes you longer or shorter to make one doesn't matter. On my Ipod I can skip ahead. Maybe I'm the only one that has one of those kinds of ipods.

Dick wolves? My only memory is the name sounded kind of in poor taste. Penny Arcade has been running a somewhat fine line of donating games to sick kids and then doing sht like selling Dick Wolves t-shirts on the side. What's next the Porn industry doing charity events for grade schools? Ok i wish porn industry was fund raising for my 5th grade playground back in the day.

NGP? Should have made it larger. 5 inches ain't enough. Big ten inch is what I'm talking about.

Much like no one takes their SUV off-road I doubt many take their PSP off-road either. AT least in America. And so make the hunk of plastic tablet-sized. 10".

Guess what? All that graphical power? You can now see what it is capable of. YOu can see the details. A baseball is bigger than a mosquito. You don't have to squint like Sanford's chef. The thing is a much better movie device with that big of screen as well. Matter of fact, a 10" screen from 12" away rivals a big screen tv from 10' away in terms of relative size. And you much have less competition at this size. There is no dedicated gaming device this size. And the tablet market is just getting started and so is less entrenched than the ipod. iPHone, Android and 3DS. Win, win, win....

Create a new market Sony. I bet you could take away console sales with a device like this.

ON top of it this thing would be a great surfing machine. Great map display with that gps. GReat device for Sony's target PSP demographic which was 13-17 yr olds who don't have a TV in their room.

btw, I think Sony knows the NGP might have trouble getting software support. That's why there is that Android PSN SDK. They want folks to develop games for this thing first and then be able qualm their fears (developer/publisher fears) by making it easy to port games to Android. Or even vice versa. They also have that Android PSP phone of course.

Just my $1.725.
