Did I get a bootleg PSP composite AV cable?

CAGiversary!
EDIT: I posted a full report on my blog. Sorry it took so long. I was playing Ys Seven like a man possessed this past week. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=19032

Check this out. It's listed on Amazon as a Japanese OEM composite AV cable for PSP.

I expected to get a bare cable, but I got this strange packaging.

Notice the strange PSP logo. The official Sony logo doesn't appear anywhere on the packaging. Even the old PS logo doesn't appear anywhere. On the US cable packaging, it's in the upper right hand corner. Check it out below.

Feel free to chime in.

Sorny? I haven't opened it up, but the packaging doesn't say anything about Sorny. Is that a known bootleg thing?
lol
Sorry, next time I'll bring the joke backup-material next time. ;)

Glad someone else found the proof to explain the joke.

Amazon sent a replacement, it was another bootleg. Great. Second one's to the right. Look at the direct bottom of the package. The second one doesn't have "SonyComputer" like the first one does. It's even more of a bootleg than the first.

The phone call sure went down funnily. I explained my situation to the guy on the phone. Before even looking at the pictures, he refunded my money and told me to just keep the cables. After a brief period of time on hold, he said he did just that and also put a flag on the cables as being questionable and maybe bootleg. They would be removed from the site immediately until further action was taken.

Since I'm a cracker jack guy, I then offered my services to help make sure that it doesn't happen to anybody else in the future. He then looked at the first set of pictures. (We never got to today's set.) He then started sounding like he thought he goofed up by giving me these two cables for free. His train of thought was that since the packaging looks so legitimate that it must be a regional difference. I then explained to him that I've never seen a Japanese PSP logo like that. He then kept on going on and on about how if it was bootleg, the fact that it looks so much like the official thing is an indicator that the bootleggers are poor, but then he backtracked to the idea that it was a regional difference. By this point it was just pointless because I already had my refund and the cancellation of the return shipment of the first cables. He continued to go on and on about how regional differences sometimes cause the names of games to change and the look of the packaging to be different. I then repeated to him that I had never seen such a logo on a legitimate PSP thing anywhere in the world. He started talking about betting his car on the fact that it was a regional difference, and I continued to refute it. Somehow he even brought up the Dreamcast. After a few minutes of this, I stopped arguing. I got my refund. I would have gladly shipped the cables back, but I didn't even have to do that.

So it's been about an hour. The listing is still showing. It was supposed to be gone immediately. I'm thinking this guy thinks he's covering his ass by not saying anything to anybody when in fact the cables really are bootleg. Or maybe it's some sort of company pride where it's like "hey, Amazon doesn't sell bootlegs". I'll give it a week. If the listing is still up, I'll write a review for the cables warning that they are bootleg. Just another shitstorm that could have been avoided by somebody taking the time to listen to me and having enough faith in me to believe me. Story of my life.

I'll have a full report with pictures of the cables sometime this week. Maybe a bit later if I decide to order official cables. (I probably will.) I did open one of them. There is no PSP logo on the little box where the three cables split. I believe somebody said in one of these threads I posted (I posted this same topic across a bunch of forums) that there is supposed to be a PSP logo on it. That's just another nail in the coffin. The good, er, okay news is that that they do work. I had a strange incompatibility with HEN and playing regular PSP UMD games, but UMD games started playing just fine when I disabled HEN.

Yeah, those are obvious bootlegs. Big warning is the lack of a Sony logo & the Playstation logo they used since the PS1. It's clear when you're having trouble with HEN and UMD games.

I did some searching and from what I've found this is what the real one's look like: http://images.excheap.com/imagecache/PSP-2000-av-cable-with-packing-metal-head--148-1310310.jpg

It's similar to what you've received. But no Sony or PS logo and the PSP logo is different. As for the CS rep. saying it might be a different logo in japan, that's BS. If it was true, the games would also have that logo and no game in japan has that logo on it's case.

As for reporting them as counterfeit, email Sony about it(with the pics). That way they know Amazon is selling bootleg a/v cables. Amazon's not the only one selling them though, as I ran into a couple sites selling them.

THANK YOU! for the image of the official Japanese cables. That'll be helpful in my report. It's low res, but it's high enough res to see enough text to know that it's Japanese and also still official.

Do you have any suggestions on email addresses to send the information to? I'll even copy the CEO if I'm able to.

I did do my research. Click on the first link in my first post. I was led to believe that they were real Japanese product. Anybody would have been.

Yeah, but you are posting right? Meaning you had a feeling, so at least you got that. I do see how it looks legitment. How exactly were you led to that site?

Well, duh, I'm posting. And I'm pissed. And what about it doesn't look legitimate? The page on Amazon or the pictures that I took?

I was led to the listing on Amazon because I searched for cables on Amazon. I was all set to buy the regular official US cables, but a few items down was a "Japanese OEM official Sony" cable. OEM is about as official as it gets. Look it up on Newegg. You generally don't get packaging or instructions, but it was like 5 bucks cheaper. I didn't care that it was the Japanese version. I've got import games. Not only was it OEM, but the picture has fine print saying Sony in it.

And the pictures of the stuff I took, well, of course those things aren't legitimate. That's the whole point of this whole frakking thread.
