The first nine categories are available for voting with tomorrow's update and the last category will be available on some website that they haven't revealed yet. You'll get a free theme with each vote, which probably aren't going to be good if they're like last year's themes. The website category will get you a code for that theme to complete the collection.

Also like last year, winners will be on sale for 30% off for PSN members and 50% off for PS+ members, so you have no reason to vote for games you own and think should win.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: It says that the game is on sale today, but I just checked and it's still full price. When is it on sale?
A: That's probably because you're checking the store well before the update happens. Updates typically happen between 7-10 PM EST on Tuesdays, so please check back then. Somebody will probably mention that it's live in this thread when it's available, just in case you're lazy.

Q: Where else can I buy PSN content besides the PlayStation Stores on my PS3 or PSP?
A: Media Go is Sony's media manager program that lets you browse and buy stuff off of just the PSP's PS Store. Both GameStop.com and Amazon.com (PS3 & PSP) offer PS3 and PSP games and DLC on their websites along with GameStop letting you buy that stuff in their stores. Amazon and GameStop will give you a code after purchase that can be redeemed either in the PS Store or under Account Management on the XMB.

Q: Does Amazon or GameStop adjust their prices to reflect new sales?
A: Amazon did at one point, but they have not for a while now. Permanent price drops are usually reflected by Amazon. GameStop's PSN store hasn't been around long enough to see how they react to this stuff regularly.

Q: Would you mind listing the previous deals so I can see if a game I'm considering is a frequent sale item or not?
A: Since that would be a lot of work, I have a simpler solution that will give you access to the past few years' worth of sales. Just go over to the What's in the PS Store thread I run in the PS3 forum and click on the "Search This Thread" button right above the first post on the right and type in the name of the game you're interested in. The results should let you see if that game has been on sale at any point in the past few years and give you an idea of whether it's better to get the game now or wait for a sale.

Q: When does a deal actually expire, as far as the last moment that I can grab the game at the sale price?
A: All sales end when the next update happens, which would be probably about an hour before the update actually appears in the New Releases section of the store. Since there isn't a set time for updates to happen, it would be in your best interest to not be putting off getting a game on sale for that long to have to worry about this issue.

Q: I'm interested in PlayStation Plus. Do I keep any games that go on sale for PlayStation Plus members?
A: Yes, anything you pay money for as a PS+ member is yours to keep forever. Most of the free content is attached to the subscription and expires once that sub lapses, but anything you buy is like every other purchase on PSN and is attached to your account and is playable forever.

Q: How many times am I allowed to download content that I've purchased?
A: Any games you've purchased can be downloaded as much as you want on up to five systems at once, so you can delete games whenever you need room and redownload them when you need them again easily. Videos are a bit different in that your ownership of them expires once you download an item from the video store and delete it, though you're free to back-up that video to your PSP and then to your PC via Media Go.

Q: Are PSP Games playable on the PS3?
A: No, the only games playable on the PSP and PS3 are PS1 Classics, PS1 Imports, and PlayStation Minis at the moment.

Q: Can I pay exact change for PSN content?
A: Yes, though you need to at least have $5 worth of items to be able to pay exact change. This is done so that Sony isn't pay credit card fees on small $1 purchases, so if you don't have anything to push the total of the items in your cart above $5, you'll just get the difference in credit on your account that can be applied to future purchases.

Q: Can you explain the terminology that you use here?
A: I usually add something after the sale price to indicate what kind of sale it is. Permanent Price Drop is a permanent drop in price, so this is the new base price for this item. Temporary Sale is a sale whose expiration date is not specified in the PS Blog post or by the publisher/developer, but most of these sales end after one week. Persistent Deals are PlayStation Plus deals that are always available to PlayStation Plus members and are usually adjusted when they go on sale to everybody else, so you probably shouldn't jump on them right away as a member.

Q: Can you break down the format you use for these deals?
A: Game Name - Add-on Name or Platform if Not PS3-only - Price - Sale Modifier or Additional Info

Q: Can I post here about getting people for my gameshare group?
A: No, there is a dedicated thread for gamesharing, so I'd prefer that you use the thread for it rather than filling up this thread with gameshare requests. Also, I'm not interested in gamesharing myself, so please don't send me PMs asking if I want to join your gameshare group.

Feel free to ask questions or pose questions that I should add to the FAQ. Thanks.

Super great price RE2. And makes you wonder why havent that game a got a sale during that 15th anniversary of ps1.

Anyway gives hopes now that ps1 games priced at 10 bucks will eventually go on sale for 5 bucks? Right? Hope so.

I came for the PSN deals and stayed for the frisky tanuki

Thanks OP once again. You get my hopes up but I don't think there's anything for me this week. Maybe RE2, its a really good price, but I don't know if I'm a RE kind of guy.
I'm just not good at those games.

When are these deals good for? That GTA combo pack is a fucking steal and I wanna get in on that but I would prefer to not buy another PSN card until friday if possible.
When are these deals good for? That GTA combo pack is a fucking steal and I wanna get in on that but I would prefer to not buy another PSN card until friday if possible.
The deals generally last for a week until the next Store update the following Tuesday (unless otherwise specified), so you should be pretty good if u plan on getting it this weekend.

Chinatown Wars is a nice price as well some of the other stuff already mentioned.

Picking up China Town Wars and Resident Evil 2.
They put all kinds of shit in that 15th anniversary sale, but they have RE2 for $2.99 on just a random day? Good job Sony
They also had Castlevania, Spyro, Crash...
Not saying the sale was spectacular or anything, but it did have more than a couple good ones.
this may be a dumb question: but do you need the GTAIV disc to play the 14.99 bogt and latd?
From what I know, yes you do need the disc.

Deals generally last until the following update if there's not a specific expiration date attached to them. New bundles typically don't have any expiration date, which is why I don't put "Temporary Sale" after the GTA IV DLC bundle.
this may be a dumb question: but do you need the GTAIV disc to play the 14.99 bogt and latd?
Yeah, these are add-ons for GTA IV, so you'll need the GTA IV disc to make use of them.

Man, what an update... lots of great demos and XENOGEARS!

Also, is it me or are downloads super fast for anyone else? I'm downloading at roughly 1MB/s.. usually I get 300-400KB/s if I'm lucky.

Yay finally got a good update for once. Picked up Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

Oh yeah, about the PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards thingy. It's in the store and you download a theme 1 per category for a game and if it wins, it'll go on sale. So I strongly suggest you do NOT vote for your favorite game, but instead vote for what you actually want to go on sale and buy.
Is this going to start becoming a weekly occurrence with deals? Or will this be a one time thing.
This thread or the deals?

I plan to keep this thread updated as each update happens rather than seeing a new thread each week so that there's so consistancy. If you're talking about the deals, there are still deals every week, sometimes more or less, so there should still be something here every week.

If my PSN wallet wasn't only $2.68 I'd get RE2. But I'm not dumping another $5 into PSN over 31 cents. Never liked $5 was the lowest amount, they could have $1, but people wouldn't have spare change to randomly buy stuff from them that way. "Only wanna spend $3? You gotta pay us $2 for that convenience."

It's to minimize the amount of credit card fees they'd have to pay for if they didn't have a minimum balance, which is the same for both PSN and Xbox Live.

http://www.1up.com/news/xbl-wtf-pay-exact-change

i don't get why everyone always gets up in arms about leaving a couple bucks leftover on PSN or XBL. do you also refuse to let your car hold onto your spare change? is not having access to that
If money is in your car you can get it. If money is in the wallet you cannot. Do you think they have the system set up in this way for YOUR benefit? Why the hell can't you just pay for it in exact change and not even have a PSN wallet? I don't have an Amazon wallet.
uh you can pay it in exact amounts if the amount is over 5$ in fact I just did it 15 minutes ago for $11.91

what part of the 5$ min cc transfer dont you guys get.

it wouldn't be a problem if you are going to buy anything in the future imo.

Just add Xenogears to your cart as well. Problem solved.

Sony would have to pay over 30% of your purchase back in credit card fees if the minimum purchase price was $1. It sucks, but you've got to admit the policy makes sense for them. I don't buy lots of content on PSN because it's usually easier to find cheap MS Points, but even with my minimal purchases I've never had a problem using up my spare change eventually.

daayuum! I might be buying some PSN cards. That Midnight Club 2-pack is an insane deal! Gods of War: GoS seems like a steal and won't ever go much lower than $20. Definitely need that RE:2..

Picked up Sky Fighter last night, I think there is a PS+ discount to $2.50 if you want to put that in the OP frisky. I dunno about the game, maybe the point is to not allow inverted controllers, but I would crash to my death time after time :bomb:

Nothing for me this week. Just got a PSN card last week for the penny arcade bundle. Got $17.15 in my wallet after that waiting for castle crashers sale of $9.99 now.

Hey Frisky, so upcoming sales (post #2) is for next week? Thx

*edit* duh just saw the 3/1 which I assume applies to the entire post - can't wait!

*edit #2* Ok, just read the email - so only one of those games per category will go on sale after the voting ends.

Would have been nice for all the games to go on sale =)

Considering GTA Chinatown Wars but for some reason I still prefer physical copies of games, even if it is for a portable system like my PSP3000. I'm reminded of Xbox Live for the first Xbox going dark thus making it impossible to redownload items purchased in the past. This will eventually happen for digital purchases on PSN.

Considerig the NGP will support psn games that won't happen anytime soon. The umd versions of games will be more obsolete in fact. It's better to get psn versions of games if you eventually plan to get an ngp/psp2

Unlike the fuck up of microsoft, PSN is cross platform. You get the same store on the PS3 and PSP. I don't see how they would go dark considering they can modify the store for each new product that comes out.

I dunno about the game, maybe the point is to not allow inverted controllers, but I would crash to my death time after time :bomb:

ha! my bad Frisky, I see what you did there (didn't see it before ;))

Nice thread Frisky.

I like the section on the prospective deals for the PSN awards, not that the math is difficult, buts its nice to see all the potential prices in one place.

Plus you can use Media GO to download to PC and burn to a few dvds which I will be doing.

As you may have seen, a number of new titles were added to the Greatest Hits ($19.99) and Favorites ($9.99) lines for the PSP, which also means that those games on PSN will be getting a permanent price drop on Tuesday with the next update.

Here's what probably will be getting a price drop on Tuesday:

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - $19.99 - Now $29.99
Daxter - $9.99 - Now $15.99
Killzone: Liberation - $9.99 - Now $15.99
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - $9.99 - Now $19.99
Tomb Raider: Anniversary - $9.99 - Now $12.99

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, Dissidia Final Fantasy, LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters ($15.99), and Resistance Retribution were already at $19.99 or below on PSN. SOCOM: Fire Team Bravo is the only one of the $9.99 games that's already available at that price. Toy Story 3 and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII aren't on PSN yet.
